I just have to jump in and say that I absoutly agree with Eduardo's primary point. Free speech is free speech. You either have it or you don't. There are all sorts of groups that I think are at least as dangerous, if not more so than JW's (Republicans come to mind

immidiately, her "my book of bible stories" jumped out at me.

Guarding the platform at assemblies and conventions
by bronzefist incan anyone tell me why this practice was stopped.
i was told the reason for the guards was to prevent apostates from "attacking" anyone up there and disrupting the program.
has anyonne witnessed an "attack" of apostates gone wild?

I served as Security in the Chairman's office a few times. One time a D.O. whom I knew slightly, (and had a somewhat decent sense of humor) came in and asked me what my job is. I said that apparently if a crazed gunman came in my job was to point out who the bigwigs were. In regards to apostates at the conventions, I always thought that was so counterproductive. Don't intend to offend, but I always took comfort when I was a dub that there was one group of people even geekier than we were, which was anybody with a paper bag on their head and a bullhorn. It always seemed like it would be more effective to drive pass the convention towing a boat and shouting "I'm going to the beach! Anyone want to come?"

Intelligent Design
by Delta20 inhey all,.
i am currently studying the topic of intelligent design (id).
basically the id theory is the revival of the teleological argument for the existance of a deity.

This debate is somewhat depressing to me, since it reminds me of the horrible Cognitive Dissonance I lived with for years as a JW. I remember making some of these same arguments, and just like the elephant in the room, ignoring the logical fallacies. All I can say is that the Creator outside of the box is just another version of ?it?s turtles all the way down?.

Humiliation, nothing but humiliation. Is this the JWD equivelent of showing up with a green bible? Ferries almost in, so I'll be gone soon. They just installed wifi on it, which makes the trip go faster.

I was watching the latest episode of ?Carnivale? last night on HBO and I swear I saw a picture of Judge Rutherford on the wall. It was in the Crones house at the bottom of the stairs, hanging next to her wedding photo. This would be historically appropriate, since the setting is in the 30?s. Anyone else see this? I?ll try to get a screen grab if it?s still on my Tivo.
