Hi Confusedandangry,
Don't worry too much about going crazy. We'll all lost our brain in the beginning. Just take your time and ask what ever questions you want. Here to serve. :)

hi everyone i don't even know where to begin.
i recently saw leah remini's series on scientology thanks to my husband (semi-active jw) and i felt like my eyes were being opened for the 1st time in my adult life.
i felt shaken almost sick to my stomach with each episode i watched.

not too long ago, i posted a topic where i pointed out that there are about 1 million xjws alive right now.
that number only represented the disfellowshipped ones... didn't account for those who had become publishers and left or anyone else who got hurt by that group by proxy.
so, why are there so few of them online?
There could be a number of reasons why ex-witnesses don't get involved. I expect that many don't even know of this place as they were too scared to look while they were still in. And being disfellowshiped on the common grounds of porniea, most probably just carry in their new life knowing that they will go back. Some I expect still want to return to the congregation, family and friends .. and are thus still 'believers'. Overcome by depression or physical tiredness, people might just not have the energy to do anything of importance at all. And others like Ray Franz, were or are, waiting for the Organization to reform before making their move. How many leave the Society without being pushed, because of their own conscience may actually be a quite small percentage too.
So perhaps the thousand or so members here, should be expected.
Yet I am convinced, we the few, who take to time to make meaning posts, hit above our weight in helping those who dare to look in through the window. And I'm sure that despite the fact the we may be viewed as complainers and malcontents, the Governing Body knows we exist and we are a pain in their side.
i know this has been discussed over the years on this forum, but i just had to post this again!.
it seems that the popular fad amongst the "spiritual" ones in the local circuits is to home school their children instead of sending them to school.. now to clarify, we are in a very nice area of semi rural australia .
one with very community minded, and strong family values.
I have to echo Finfelstein here. In Australia it take four years to graduate with a Bachelor of Education. How on earth can any one say that a stay-at-home parent can offer the same quality of teaching than that.
we haven't heard much recently about india.
whats the current situation over there?
.
Isn't funny how we've been told for years how the Brotherhood is the same all around the world; a wonderful example of unity and another evidence of God's blessing on the Society. But in reality I believe that The Truth doesn't change the nature of people at all, it has just collected a group of people with a similar mind set. So while I can't prove for myself that some in India pay-off the elders, I thinks it sounds right when I know that many local customs get covered over, so as not to upset or spoil the Witnesses' reputation. For example in a Nordic country, nude swimming and mixed sex naked saunas are tolerated. But of course, looking at pictures of naked people will get you disfellowshiped.

anybody have any ideas where they are going with the "new light" they have been pushing last week and this week?
for instance in this weeks study article one section reads:.
in years gone by, we believed that jehovah became displeased with his people because they did not have a zealous share in the preaching work during world war i. we concluded that for this reason, jehovah allowed babylon the great to take them captive for a short time.
My take on this weeks WT study article for what its worth, is that it was written to once again reinforce the new idea that the truth didn't really become the the truth until that 1918-1919 period as an attempt to distance themselves from Russel and his teachings ... and to continue establishing the legitimacy the establishment Governing Body arrangement. Interestingly, 'the death of the two witnesses' of Revelation 11 and the 'valley of dry bones' of Ezekiel 37, were not even referenced this time (as they would have been in the past), leading me to my conclusion that the time before 1918 didn't really count as much.
so, you left because of a bad example(s).. why all the whining?
nothing better to do with your time?.
you at least know far more about the bible than any church-goer?.
You know what Question ... you are worthless piece of shit. You've just insulted every victim of sexual child abuse and their partners, that's ever been part of the Organization. What you fail to realize is that this site is perhaps one of the few places that people could turn to regain a little composure from what what has happened to them or the ones they love within the supposedly holly walls of the Kingdom Hall. And one day, when you love someone more that you do yourself, you might understand how wrong you've really been today.
and it is ... why do most at the hall prefer to sit at the back and leave front rows empty?.
Thanks for replying guys ... and yep ... I had came to the same conclusions that you did. However I think that from all of this, when we think about, it doesn't it really show the general lack of interest that the congregations have for whats being said from the platform. Even the Governing Body's costly move towards introducing video hasn't made any lasting improvements in reversing the boredom felt by all. Of course there is the emotional highs (cue sad music) that come from watching stories like those about the earthquake victims in Haiti, but it quickly dissipates withing a few minutes and things go back to normal. Yes, sitting at the back of the hall is a clear sign that people want to distance themselves for whats going on and most would be happier if they could have another night off from the meetings. Its funny really that the Governing Body still hasn't got it, that we are all tired of the "work harder" message. No one can run forever and as a direct result, the majority has now just turned off.
and it is ... why do most at the hall prefer to sit at the back and leave front rows empty?.

my wife found this 1/4 page ad on page 2 of yesterday's nj star-ledger, probably the biggest newspaper in nj.
pretty telling.. .
While I'm aware of letters to BOEs covering the confidentiality of child abuse cases, I've never seen a copy of any letter stating any kind of "punishment" other that the standard ones that relates to "an Elder that breaks judicial confidentiality may no-longer qualify as such". And as such a "punishment" letter would have to had been sent to every congregation Body world wide to be effective, I'm a little surprised that not one copy of it, has surfaced publicly when we consider how many ex-Elders and sympathizers are anti child abuse supporters.
I may be wrong ... but I'm fairly sure that if Elders were threatened with disfellowshiping for reveling child abuse the police (as I understand what some are saying here), that letter would have surfaced in the Australian Royal Commission and been used to rip apart the Watchtower defense.
