Asylum Caravan
by dubstepped inalright, so what is the deal with the thousands coming to the states right at election time seeking asylum?
i'm not up on this, usually try not to be, but how can this not be manipulative?
it's either manipulative in the size of the group and pressure that creates, or in where it started or who started this, etc.

RIO GRANDE VALLEY - Just one day after President Trump's trip to the Rio Grande Valley, Border Patrol agents recorded their highest apprehension numbers in 2019.
Before Thursday's visit, apprehension numbers were averaging in the 400's each day.
Those numbers jumped to 771 on Friday.
The Valley's Acting Chief Border Patrol Agent, Raul Ortiz said âFridayâs numbers support the Presidentâs assertion that the current state of border remains porous. There is currently not enough infrastructure to adequately address the hundreds of illegals who cross here every night.â
So approximately 140,000 per year, only counting those apprehended.

DUMBO, BROOKLYN â The Jehovah's Witnesses have officially moved out of Brooklyn â or at least their headquarters have. The religious group announced that they sold the last remaining piece of their former Dumbo headquarters last week.
The last piece of property, found at 30 Front Street, was sold to development group Fortis Dumbo Acquisition. Fortis paid a whopping $91 million for the site, property records show.
It was once used as a parking lot for the organization's staff.
The development group plans to turn the lot into a 270-foot tall apartment building, YIMBY reported. Most of the 360,000-square-foot building will be for the 74 apartments, averaging 2,400 square feet each.
The rest will be used as community space and likely for 416 parking spaces in the plans, according to YIMBY.
The lot is the last of 37 properties the Jehovah's Witnesses have sold in Brooklyn since 2004, the group said. The organization decided in 2011 to move its headquarters to upstate New York.
Other notable sales over the years include 74 Adams Street, which was turned into a vehicle repair garage for the organization's fleet of cars and nearly doubled when expanded in 1990. The organization sold that spot last year, around the time they also sold their well-known "towers" on Clark Street.
The towers were a 16-story residential building in Brooklyn Heights that were used by the Witnesses for over four decades.

No, Jehovahâs Witnesses are not a cult. Rather, we are Christians who do our best to follow the example set by Jesus Christ and to live by his teachings.
What is a cult?
The term âcultâ means different things to different people. However, consider two common perceptions regarding cults and why those perceptions donât apply to us.
Some think of a cult as being a new or unorthodox religion. Jehovahâs Witnesses have not invented a new religion. On the contrary, we pattern our worship after that of the first-century Christians, whose example and teachings were recorded in the Bible. (2 Timothy 3:â16, 17) We believe that the Holy Scriptures should be the authority on what is orthodox in matters of worship.
Some think of a cult as being a dangerous religious sect with a human leader. Jehovahâs Witnesses do not look to any human as their leader. Rather, we adhere to the standard that Jesus set for his followers when he stated: âYour Leader is one, the Christ.ââââ Matthew 23:10.
Far from being a dangerous cult, Jehovahâs Witnesses practice a religion that benefits its members and others in the community. For example, our ministry has helped many people to overcome harmful addictions, such as the abuse of drugs and alcohol. In addition, we conduct literacy classes around the world, helping thousands learn to read and write. And we are actively involved in disaster relief. We work hard to have a positive impact on others, just as Jesus commanded his followers to do.âââ Matthew 5:â13-â16.

A 69-year-old Thousand Oaks man facing multiple sexual abuse charges by the Ventura County District Attorneyâs Office was arrested last week, authorities said.
Steven Skyler Abbott was arrested Dec. 6 after months of investigation into the reported sexual abuse of two Thousand Oaks girls, according to the Ventura County Sheriffâs Office.
In November, the Ventura County District Attorneyâs Office filed multiple felony sexual abuse charges against Abbott, including two counts of continuous sexual abuse, one count of lewd acts upon a child and one count of forcible lewd acts upon a child.
He is also facing multiple felony enhancements and special allegations related to his charges.
The investigation began in September, when the sheriffâs agency received a report of suspected child crimes.
A 16-year-old victim alleged that she was sexually abused by Abbott when she was between the ages of 5 and 11, sheriffâs officials said.
Sexual assault unit detectives subsequently identified a second, 24-year-old victim who reported that Abbott had abused her when she was between the ages of 3 and 7, authorities said.
The sheriffâs agency said the victims and their families had come into contact with Abbott through the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahâs Witnesses in Newbury Park.
Investigators submitted their findings to prosecutors, who filed felony sexual abuse charges against Abbot on Nov. 16, officials said.
On Nov. 28, an arrest warrant was issued for Abbott.
The suspect was eventually arrested at his home on Dec. 6 and booked into Ventura County jail. He is being held on $250,000 bail and is due in Ventura County Superior Court on Dec. 27 for his arraignment, according to court and jail records.
Others who believe they are a victim of Abbott or who may have additional information were advised to contact Detective Darin Yanover at 805-494-8229.
