My condolances. Look at the lives he touched and saved making them less unbearable. To keep going back to help people with such severe difficulties is an example of Christ few will ever attain. I know what it is like to support and love a gravely, chronically ill person for decades but I haven't gone on after their death to help others similarly afflicted. Such people stand above all others in their lives. Thank you for the post, Carlton

if you still believe in the bible ... please tell me why
by frenchbabyface inwhy i can't anymore : sorry for my poor english, but i've tried hard !!
since the beginning of the time, till the 19th century and more, most of stories and songs for kids, was made to scary them with a moral at the end.
to me, the bible is one of kind of that type of book (for children we are inside).

"All Scripture is beneficial..." and "men were borne along by spirit" in writing. Who was led by spirit to know which books to pick and which to leave out of the canon. Man, I need to do some research on the Bible canonization when I get time. So I'll just throw this out for now. Good post

Do you have a 'turning point' memory that started you to question?
by Steve Lowry inmine was when i was about ten years old or so back in the mid sixties.
we had a guy in our k.hall who actually lived through the 1914 experience (earl senior).
he was well into his seventies i guess even then and was one of the annointed.

I wanted to tell these jerks: first off pronounce it correctly, it’s NASA National Aeronautical and Space Agency not ‘Nassau’, it’s not in the Caribbean, it’s not an Island, it’s the US space agency, you freakin uneducated ass-wipes!
But I was a good little JW drone and held all that in.Same experience, brother. I was always ashamed to bring anyone to the public talk because of their ignorance. They murdered the English language. Once, my daughter brought a school acquaintance to listen to this uneducated speaker saying 'we was' and 'I seen' , etc. while a slobering youngster in the seat in front continually hung over his seat and spit on our guest. She never came back and eventually stopped studying. Guess she wasn't humble and couldn't be marked for salvation.

Man, you touch on a lot of questions I have. Goin' back and looking for info on just how the Bible got to be in the first place. How-what decided the books in and the books out. While a JW it was impossible to get a satisfactory answer other than inspiration for the final canon closure. I mean, it does seem like there is more than one personality being the God of the Bible. It does seem like contradictions exist. Because of the odds involved in setting up a universe like ours it seems something directed it if not actually created it. I sometimes wonder if different powers have had the claim to godship depending on who had the upper hand. I hope there is one God (and he's just given us everything we need for now even if it seems unfair and unbalanced.) Faith is what I need, I guess. I find solace and encouragement from Ray's words.

A sobering week
by onacruse in.
this last week i've been doing some painting at a care facility.
quadraplegics, schizophrenics, autistics, down's syndrome.. they come out (or look out, or stare out) of their rooms and "talk" with me while i'm working.. i don't really know how to put this into words, but.... i've got a helluvalot to be thankful for, and "god" has a hellovalot to answer for.. craig

Right! The only explanation that ever came close to explaining this was the WTBS. This really bothers me. I watched my wife suffer for 28 yrs. from asthma, heart disease, steroid syndromes, etc. Sometimes after coming home from the hospital I would just break down from seeing her suffer so. One time I asked an elder if it was wrong to ask Jehovah if he would just take her (she wanted this) and he said it was wrong.... he will give us the necessary strength. Looking back now it seems he did. I'd be interested in hearing some others' thoughts on this, too. Thanks for the post.

Does the night sky prove the universe is older than 6-7 thousand years old?
by m0nk3y ini was just thinking about this today.
i'm not really that scientifically minded in space matters and stuff so i was hoping some of the smarter people on this forum could comment.
how many light years basically are the stars we can actually see from earth ?

Light does NOT travel at the same speed all the time. Massive stars and large collections of galaxies in "small" areas slow the speed of light. As do black holes, which stop light from escaping at all - Gravity affects the speed of light. I think I read light had been slowed to about walking speed. Again, I think I read it had been stopped and started. Yeah, it can be slowed but that would just make the universe older. The point is it has a maximux speed that is not exceeded or causality violations could occur. In a way it is surpassed all the time with quantum leaps, entanglement etc. These don't violate anything since no info is passed faster. It's all Greek to me. Just passin' what Iv'e read. I'm no expert.
