All good diety? That's a good one. Show me an all good diety. I don't know of any nor have I heard of one on earth. I can't help but think that somehow the WTS has wiggled its way into getting the medical care you speak of, from one of the social programs offered to the poor. I know that in California, if you do not have the money to pay the bill, Medicaid will step in and provide the service for the people that are poor. THe funds that the people are purposely kept below the poverty line so they do not pay into FICA or the medical program for seniors. My daughter will not get the social security and Medicare that I pay into.

Medical Care
by Phil inall the jws that work at the paterson facility, i believe, receive some pay that is so small that they are put below the poverty level as established by the government.
when one of these members is in need of hospitalization for a serious illness, is the medical care they receive paid for under the government funded "medicaid" program?
what kind of medical care programs does the state of ny have for these cases?should a person in this position be expected to pay back the expenses incurred by the wt.

In California, persons living below the poverty line have medical insurance through a plan called "medicaid". This is a state plan that is being taken advantage of by the illegal immigrants throughout this state. That is one of the reasons why California is in such a dismal financial condition. I assumed that NY would have a similar program.
If what you say it is still in effect I will expect my daughter at my front door any time now. She has cancer and has been receiving chemo and radiation treatments not to mention surgeries over the last couple of years. We'll see. I will let you know if and when she comes a knocking.

My daughter is receiving very costly radiation treatment at Sloan-Kittering in NY. Will she at some point in time be required to pay the WT for services rendered and under what conditions? If she is expected to pay back for these services, she will be financiall destroyed for the rest of her life.

Renew contact
by Phil ini would like to renew contact with my daughter that is now in paterson,ny living the life of a dedicated jw to the max.. .
i would like to use the email as a communicating device.
i understand that all jws are discouraged from conversing on the internet particularly to non-jws such as my wife and i. i know she has not been appraised of all the ins and outs of the jws and all she knows is what she is told, no more no less.i feel the oportunity will arise to start this communication but i will need some guidance through this ordeal.

We have been communicating by telephone for the last several years. My other daughter, who is not a JW, has contacted her by email. Unfortunately, when she emails her, the replys come from her husband. In a conversation with her, she said she would send my wife a recipe for some food she had prepared via email. A long time passed and we finally got it via snail mail. She figured it would travel faster that way. That is plain dumb. This brain washing thing is beyond my comprehension.
I am not a JW and could not possibly become one as long as I am in a sane mental state. (Which is the state in which I am presently in). My daughter and her husband know this. If we were living in the wild west in the year 1700 her husband would not be alive today. I would have shot him. Any person who purposely attempts (and succeeds) to break up a family unit should be dealt with.

I know she has not been appraised of all the ins and outs of the JWs and all she knows is what she is told, no more no less.I feel the oportunity will arise to start this communication but I will need some guidance through this ordeal. My approach is to just ask questions and have her answer the questions as truthful and concise as possible. Many years ago I started this way of conversing and we got tied up in all kinds of scripture with her quoting from the Bible. Getting into this quagmire tends to result into an individuals interpretation making a point in the conversation nearly impossible. Her condition now is such that I feel she needs the love of her parents and she is shutting us out of her life.
Question: To what degree do they go to discourage or outright prevent such communications. I once started such a connection with a JW and at the outset I asked one simple question that he could not answer and he got mad at me and refused to communicate further. What on earth are these people afraid of?
I just want to ask straight questions and get straight truthful answers. If I were in their position, this would be the easiest thing to do. I know I would make the worse liar on earth because I am unable to keep track of my lies.
Any words of wisdom offered here?

Wrong.
What about the Watchtower being the sole voice for God on earth.

I recently got into a discussion regarding shunning in the JWS. I have a few questions in this regard.
Does JWs tell their people that there are certain people should be shunned?
Who are the people that should be shunned? Non JW relatives of members? Disfellowshipped members? How about members that elect to just vanish and not attend the meetings anymore?
How about a members non JW relative that is born out of wedlock? Would he or she be shunned?
What happens when a marriage of a JW couple with children, one of the couple gets disfellowshipped, what happens to the child visiting rights of the disfellowed person?
Is there any formal document that spells out these scenarios?

Book having to do with JWs
by under74 inokay, so i finally finished this book let it blurt: the life & times of lester bangs, america's greatest rock critic....i been reading it on plane rides so it's kind of taken me awhile.
i know i've mentioned it on a couple of threads and said it was good...and it is, but the author jim derogatis i think gets jw doctrine all mixed up.
just for background sake, lester bangs was raised a jw and it's brought up a lot in the book because it (of course, made an impact on bangs short life) .

U.S. Witnesses can make the difference in the 2004 Election
by joe_from_kokomo indear friends:.
most witnesses do not vote, and have not done so for many years, although strictly speaking current watchtower policy does not forbid voting in a political election, but rather leaves it as a matter of conscience.
so, it is up to each witness to decide for themselves if it is ok to vote or not.

I picked up this choice writing whick I would like to share with you Canadians.
REFLEXIONS
And now that another Rememberance Day has passed, most of my idle moments will be spent contemplating Canada's place in world affairs, in particular our response to the United States current involvement in the Iraqi/Afghan turmoil.
It doesn't take a political scientist to figure out that the platform for launching WW3 is the middle east. Nor does it take any exceptional intelligence to realize that there's no turning back or, more specifically, turning a blind eye on where Canada's alliance must lie. There's no room for neutrality in the impending war.
As a first generation Canadian who served three-and-a-half years at sea during WW2, I want to express my personal views on where I think my country's loyalties belong.
To begin with, I firmly believe that you can't make deals with those who justify their violence on their religious beliefs. Tolerance is a virtue, but there are limits. My limit was reached when religious fanatacism, in the name of God, motivated fanatics to strap bombs on children and chopping the heads off non-combatants (or anybody's head for that matter) all the while screaming "God Is Great !!!"
I see no difference between Hitler's rationale in the planned extermination of millions of people and this Islamic rationale in exterminating anyone who doesn't share their belief ALL IN THE NAME OF GOD. And it's only the beginning.
True Muslims insist that this is not Islamic law at work. I can accept this, but then, what are the true Muslims doing about this aberration of their religion? This extremism guised in religious fundamentalism has gone way beyond civilized behaviour. So far, the attack on the world trade centre is the only grim reminder that we are targets here in our well insulated society.
How many of you who read this are familiar, even vaguely, with the measures taken by Britain and France to appease the militaristic menace that Germany didn't bother to hide in the early thirties and the inevitable outcome ,WW2.
Let me divert for a moment.
Each morning I awake in my cosy, clean warm bed. I rise to a comfortable well furnished apartment that's heated by energy long taken for granted. I go to my refridgerator and take out fresh milk, eggs, and any one of a selection of breakfast goodies. I make coffee in a modern coffee maker. I turn on a radio or TV for early morning news giving out constant reminders of the mayhem and destruction in other parts of the world. News of the starving millions in Africa. I go grocery shopping later in the day in modern fully stocked food markets. If I wanted to, I could have a car to drive there and back (and bitch about the price of gas) refined from petroleum from other parts of the world. I live in an environment that has well equipped hospitals and schools and hundreds of stores to buy the luxuries always in stock, as far as my income can afford and bitch about not being able to get things I can't afford.
If I want to I can plan a holiday in some part of the country I have never seen. I can celebrate Christmas, New Year's, Easter, Halloween, Valentine's day or any holiday of other ethnic communities. I have a computer that allows me to communicate with whoever whenever I want.. At the end of the day I can enjoy the luxury of reading whatever I want (and turning off the TV when the Ads have sickened me).
I could go on and on but I'm sure the reader can see what I'm getting at. The bottom line is that I will not blame George W. Bush for whatever threat there is to my lifestyle. He's just another capitalist like me only he's got more. I wouldn't want his job for any amount of money or a more plentiful lifestyle. If the anti Bush multitudes don't open their collective eyes pretty soon the 5 years of death, destruction and misery of WW2 will fade in comparison to the impending conflict that has already started.

You must be living in a baloon. Count how many men or male children in the past year that have been "RAPED". Very few. The only ones that come to the surface are the ones that become pregnant and must deal with a law that is unjust to the women. Very little you said makes sense. Myths?? Brother. However, the statuatory rape law is in place and must be followed irregardless of what I think. THat does not make it fair .
