"Jesus is My Boyfriend" Christianity
by cofty inthere is a trend in modern evangelical, charismatic and "non-religious spirituality" that gets dangerously close to erotic love of jesus.. it's something that i first observed during my christian years especially in the lyrics of christian songs and sometimes during open-prayer times.
if you haven't experienced open prayer you are the lucky ones.
everybody adopts the shampoo position - elbows on knees, head in hands - and whoever is "moved by the spirit" speaks up for a while, followed by an awkward silence, followed by two people speaking up at the same time, followed by silence, and so on.. anyway back to the topic, here are a few random examples .... "lord i give you my heart.

MsD,
As so many theists before you, you spout statements based on your feelings without any proof. As Cofty has mentioned, and as I can validate, 'leaving' my theism took decades; it was not an overnight snap decision. It was the result of an evolutionary journey filled with meditation, analysis, self reflection and research. That you would try to reflect that non-theists change overnight or because of some 'event's is ludicrous and simply not supported by the facts.
And your other rant as to the reasons why non-theists come here: it is crap. I 'lurked' this site for a dacade without joining or participating in any manner until a few months ago. Why did it take that long? Because I was living life. I only began participating because I thought I could assist those leaving, thinking of leaving or having just left the Borg. Admittedly my frustration gets in the way of 'helping' anyone because of the K-Hall lite, congregational biblical theist discussions which dominate this site, and the lack of an academic, intellectual or researched view on much of anything other than god, the holy spirit, his son and the bible by the theists. All of which nauseates me and all of which I left behind very soon upon my JW exit nearly 20 years ago.
In the few years between exiting JWdom and becoming a card carrying non-theist I studied everything I could to understand the theological viewpoint, why and how I was duped by JWs and if there was anything else out there that made any sense. I knew the wall was coming down but I wanted to be darned sure as to why I was removing each brick. You insult me, and other theists, by your comments. What I didn't do was hang onto a failed belief system or try to seek out the 'real truth' or make my own version of it. All of which I find pathetic, arrogant or both.

Alright non-theists. Are you continuing to invade clearly theist, scriptural, JW crap discussions? If so, please refrain!!!! LOL> That way the theists won't have anything to bitch about. Well they will, but at least we an take that one away from them.

Theists violate all of the aspects of good debate. They don't discuss facts or the interpretation of facts. They talk about their feelings or beliefs, and those typically must center around the bible, which as has been continually noted (and just as continually ignored by theists) by non-theists as one of the primary rational reasoning points AGAINST a god. The bible is the most ridiculous premise to substantiate a god/gods anyone can come up with (ok there may be other more ridiculous ones I use hyperbole).
They are rarely prepared for the debate, simply stating the same refrains over and over and ad nausem over, as if re-stating a failed premise is going to make it a valid premise. They start posts ranting about angry non-theists and other rhetoric, when the truth is the only real academic, factual debate/discussions are typically from the non-theists.
That is exactly what has occurred with this OP; these OPs bore me. Theists bore me. Find a nice little safe niche either here or elsewhere in the world wide web to discuss your biblical scriptural blathering and get Simon to cordon it off from us angry non-theists. I PROMISE I will never enter. Simon, can you do that? It may solve a lot of circular arguments.

Atheists, what is the best argument FOR God?
by bohm inthere are no convincing arguments for god, but some are worse than others.
i thought it would be interesting to see what people consider the best (of the bad) arguments for god?.
in my oppinion it is the fine-tuning argument from cosmology.

Another argument against god
Scientists find signs of life in Australia dating back 3.48 billion years
By Greg Botelho, CNN
updated 7:43 AM EST, Thu November 14, 2013
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
· NEW: Discovery shows life was fairly complex 3.48 billion years ago, scientist says
· Scientists: Structures found in Australia featured "a complex microbial ecosystem"
· That makes it the oldest MISS ever and "one of the most ancient signs of life on Earth"
· Scientists have been looking for such structures, as evidence of life, on Mars
(CNN) -- Deep in a remote, hot, dry patch of northwestern Australia lies one of the earliest detectable signs of life on the planet, tracing back nearly 3.5 billion years, scientists say.
At that time, the Earth -- relatively speaking -- wasn't into its adulthood yet. Scientists estimate the planet formed roughly 4.5 billion years ago; minerals known as zircons, indicating water, and continents existed within 100 million and 200 million years after that on what was still a scalding planet.
The existence of water suggests that life was possible. But what did it look like, and when did it start?
The discovery from the Dresser Formation, a much examined outcrop of rocks in Western Australia's Pilbara region, documented in a paper published online this week in the Astrobiology journal may help answer those questions.

time to reboot jwn??? attn. tech49, formerlongtime elder, others.
by nowwhat? infirst of all let me start by saying who am i to judge, but... i understand jwn has completely evolved over the years, but what i would like to see a forum that has current members and former jw's that still live by bible principles and respect the bible, but are not afraid to call out the watchtower on their practices and revised history.
i think quality posters as mentioned above, after venting their frustrations and experiences realize this website is taken over by athiests.
and punk kids-[ see similar post.

Nowwhat?
In addition to what Cofty said, I will add my usual rant. Grow up. Review the topics posted. Ninety percent or more are about JWish stuff, either current teachings or some sort of analysis/angst regarding the organization. I don't see many non-theists entering those conversations; I never do. What you want is a site where your cherished beliefs are never challenged. Very few topics on this board center around non theist subjects, but when they do the theists get frustrated because you can't bring anything to the discussion other than your beliefs. And any discussion about the bible or the gods of the bible is more of an argument for the non theists than it is the atheists.
But I agree with you; you need to seek you like minded folk who want to discuss safely your own interpretation of the myths and legends those of who of finally began using our brains rejected. As if your interpretation is the correct one. Choose a number; there have been tens of thousands of interpretations and there will be thousands more.
What now WhatNow? I would suggest by starting to use you brain. Start by actually analyzing the topics on this board; there is almost never anything for a non theist to discuss. You and those like you won't be happy untili every topic is JW lite, post-JW angst or your own version of Christianity, allowing each of you to find your little roles in your little online congregation. I find that pathetic, sad really that so many of you didn't learn anything of value during your JW life.
Or take a class in something and learn a bit about the world and the compexities in it.

I think I'm stuck in the twilight zone. A lot of god bashing atheists? Really. All anyone has to do to detemine the true nature of this site is to examine the ACTUAL topics being discussed. They seem to rank over 90 percent in JW-dom of some sort. And most of the rest center around biblical/scriptural topics. If that is what this site is about so be it. Rather than whine about it I simply choose to rarely read or participate. And the site also experiences a lot of proselytizing, although this seems to have abated somewhat. I guess not having actual facts to support premises will do that.
I don't participate frequently, and the theist/non-theist discussions bore me. They are circular. But to make it seem that anti-god mean ole atheists dominate this site or its content isn't supported by the facts. Those who believe in god have every right to do so; all of the atheists on this board (I assume) at one time also believed. But for a lurker or participant to whine about the atheists on this board??? Geeessh. Read the topics. It is JW-lite. It seems to me to be stuck in a dysfunctional post-JW funk where this is simply a different type of congregation with its own leaders/elders.
Again, if that is what this site is about, so be it. I have voted with me feet. But for theists or lurkers or biblical/jesus/god believers to feign being wounded by the non-theist horde is not supported by what I see as the actual topics discussed. The non-theist points of view I read from Cofty, Snare and some of the others are the ONLY things that make ANY sense to me. I have 3 words for the whining theists. Wah. Wah. and Wah. They can't have it all their way so they cry like babies. Grow up, open your mind and learn something.

Trying to overcome my homophobia.
by Julia Orwell ini had a music album by a gay guy before i was a jw and had no problem listening to it.
it's good music.
some of the lyrics are what you might call 'gay', that is there's some talk about boyfriends, gay bars, and queens and the intolerance the artist encountered as a gay man.

And Yadda, don't care what anyone else thinks. It doesn't matter. In a generation people will look back on your bigotry, hatred and narrow mindedness and wonder how the hell viewpoints like yours ever existed. Dead man walking. Short for the world. Yadda do you have kids? Would you feel the same way if one or all of them were gay?

The very best thing about the opinions of Yadda and those like them is that they are all dead men walking. T Rexes short for the world. The generation coming up now does not share those feelings and the generation after them will share them even less. Let it come.
