I am no longer a beleiver, but I do respect that you are. I won't try to make you feel like you ought to be an atheist now that you are no longer a JW if you don't try to impose, promote, preach, pontificate or proselytize your religion or theism on me. Some people do that unfortunately. Welcome!

Introduction - Any Believers?
by Believer ini’ve been reading it for a few of years off and on, but have been a little too ... maybe ... timid to join.
i left the watchtower organization almost 20 years ago but never abandoned my faith and belief in god.
i knew the gb/organization didn’t represent god, so when i lost my faith in them, i managed to keep my faith in an all wise benevolent creator.

Thanks Cofty, but I was also responding to Believer. If you are being led or driven by your emotions, you will respond emotionally when things don't go your way. And this site will make you 'feel' beat down.
I suggest a new strategy R2. Put your emotions, feelings, beliefs and whatever biased thoughts you have about everything on the shelf (or better flush them down the toilet), and open your mind to evidence, facts, and being rational about subjects. It is difficult. I understand. I struggle with it at times as well.
That includes everything in life in addition to debating on JW.com. We atheists continue to preach (like that word?) that an evidence based life is the best life and the only course that's going to advance our species.
The sooner we can leave religion behind, as it has been practiced for thousands of years, the better our species and our planet will be.

@tort1500,
So you've waited this long to post such nonsense, huh? You clearly haven't been paying any attention to what and who atheists are. I know a lot of atheists, and none of them became atheists because they are angry at god or anyone else. They did so because, like me, they evaluated the evidence over many years. All of the atheists I know are some of the most rational, even tempered people I know.My own atheism is typical. It was a decades long journey spent studying, researching, evaluating and meditating. My lack of belief in god at no time was fueled by anger or any other emotion. The reality of it all is that our planet has been slammed into on many occasions by very large rocks, resulting in the end of life for many species, global climate change and a start over for the life that remained. Experts suggest that it is only a matter of time before that occurs again. If the rock is big enough, none of us will survive.

Freeandclear,
I know this sounds trite, and I'm not meaning to minimize your present situation, but it really is a matter of perspective, isn't it.
You have chosen to dwell on the realization that there is no truth, no god, no paradise. It dominates your thoughts and controls your mood, your health, your life.
I suggest going to a counselor.
But you need to stop drinking now. If you don't you will have another problem to deal with, and it will make your present malaise even more profound.
Sometimes the way we respond to things is due to our DNA; sometimes it is due to our conditioning. Sometimes both. Whatever the root causes, you need to take a self assessment and realize that the balance sheet is extremely positive. There are many, many items or potential items in the column that represents life after the cult. There are very few items in the column that represents life in the cult, and if you have no family ties or none that would concern you if you lost them, that column is blank.
Either way you have nearly a blank slate to start over and experience life. A blank slate. Think about that and what it means. When I was in your situation, the very second i realized the DarkTower was nonsense I laughed at myself and felt a sense of relief.
My life was now my own, and I set my engines on warp factor 4 and never looked back. Your life is now your own. It will be what you want it to be, but you must stop anesthetizing yourself with alcohol and you need to talk to a therapist.
Good luck.

Thanks Opesdei,
The only things surprising about this account are: a. It is Sacramento instead of Starkville; and b. there aren't more of them just like it from the x-tian fundies.
An age old adage comes to mind: If you don't control yourself someone else will. It is past the time when Western countries should be giving a free pass to the hateful religionists among us that are doing our planet so much harm to say and teach whatever they wish.
Their vile rhetoric, just like that of the Muslim imam who spouted the same things a few months ago in Orlando about gays, is dangerous. Their hands drip with the blood of innocents. Governments need to step in and put an end to this hate speech.

Islam is a religion of peace (2)
by Coded Logic inin behalf of the horrific events of saturday night, i just wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that islam is a religion of peace.
it doesn’t matter that the quran explicitly says that homosexuals should be stoned to death (7:84) - it’s still a religion of peace.
and it doesn’t matter that the scriptures say that all gay men should be killed (sunan 1:152) - islam doesn’t in anyway condone violence.. it doesn’t matter that every mainstream imam calls homosexuality a sin "worse the adultery" - it’s not a religion of bigotry.. it doesn’t matter that 61% of muslims in the uk think gay acts should be made illegal - islam has nothing against the gay community.. it doesn’t matter that countries with sharia law actively persecute the lgbt community - islam is all about peace and love.
