Introduction - Any Believers?
by Believer ini’ve been reading it for a few of years off and on, but have been a little too ... maybe ... timid to join.
i left the watchtower organization almost 20 years ago but never abandoned my faith and belief in god.
i knew the gb/organization didn’t represent god, so when i lost my faith in them, i managed to keep my faith in an all wise benevolent creator.

Believer has chastised us atheists because we hurt theists' feelings. Apparently theists want to believe whatever they want to believe and have us mean ole atheists respect it. Like most atheists I respect theists' right to believe whatever nonsense they wish. I have zero respect, none, for theists' rights to express those beliefs publicly, to practice those beliefs when they are harmful or to try to spread their infection to others. No respect. Zilch. Zip. Nada.Got that?Believer picks and chooses the parts of the bible that make her feel nice. She refuses to accept anything about her god that isn't rainbows and unicorns. Her head is firmly planted up her ass, I mean in the sand. Her religion is a religion of one. Believer. And that is her right. It isn't her right to attempt to spread that infection to anyone else and it especially isn't her right to try to spread that infection on the world wide web without rational, intelligent (hint hint) people pushing back. Hard. Her religion isn't one of choice; it is of her own making. It is narcissistic, immature and egocentric. It is no different than the religious beliefs of Jim Jones, David Koresh, Heavens Gate or those who have deified Lindsay Lohan (that would be me). Her religion is lazy brained and selfish, and it deserves absolutely no respect. Her beliefs and her belief system - the manner in which she derived those beliefs - is ridiculous and deserves to be ridiculed. That Dislike button thing-ey, for all of you on your monthly cycle, is four steps over and two steps down. -

startingover,
If it is ridiculous it deserves to be ridiculed.
Believer,
Urantia papers? Really? Are you freaking kidding me? Have you and SBF got together to create a good laugh on us?
Is it the lunar cycle? Y'all drinking or smoking something? JWR influence?

String Theory Co-Founder: Sub-Atomic Particles Are Evidence the Universe Was Created
by Tenacious in(cnsnews.com) -- dr. michio kaku [1], a theoretical physicist [2] at the city college of new york (cuny) and co-founder of string field theory [3], says theoretical particles known as “primitive semi-radius tachyons” are physical evidence that the universe was created by a higher intelligence.. after analyzing the behavior of these sub-atomic particles - which can move faster than the speed of light and have the ability to “unstick” space and matter – using technology created in 2005, kaku concluded [4] that the universe is a “matrix” governed by laws and principles that could only have been designed by an intelligent being.. “i have concluded that we are in a world made by rules created by an intelligence.
believe me, everything that we call chance today won’t make sense anymore,” kaku said, according [5] to an article published in the geophilosophical association of anthropological and cultural studies.. “to me it is clear that we exist in a plan which is governed by rules that were created, shaped by a universal intelligence and not by chance.”.
“the final solution resolution could be that god is a mathematician,” kaku, author of the future of the mind: the scientific quest to understand, enhance, and empower the mind [6], said in a 2013 big think video [7]posted on youtube.. “the mind of god, we believe, is cosmic music, the music of strings resonating through 11-dimensional hyperspace.”.

What is it with theists and confirmation bias? Is it a drug to which y'all are addicted?????
CNS, the source referenced by Tenacious. was founded by and continues to be staffed and managed by ultra right wing republican conservatives with an x-tian fundamentalist slant. It is a biased right wing fundie organization.
CNS is citing the Geophilosophical Association of Anthropological and Cultural Studies as the source of this 'news' item. (Whaaaatt?) The GAACS is not an academic source, there is no author cited, and there was no study cited.Regarding Dr. Kaku: Nothing on this topic appears on Kaku’s official website, and a search of academic sources reveals nothing written by Kaku referring to “semi-radius tachyons." Physicists have no idea whether or not they exist. This 'story' is indicated to be at least 2 years old and it continues to get new play time because it appeals to the fundies and increases ratings. -

Whaaaaat??
SBF, I go away on vacation for a week and the braindead theists re-emerge from the shadows and start to terrorize the 'hood. You ARE kidding, aren't you? You've built up some credibility and a following on this site. I'm not one of your homies but you occasionally make some sense.
If you really have joined this nutcase of a cult, you have lost all credibility. You DO know about moroni and the tablets and the other nonsense don't you?
All credibility. All of it. Gone.

I am no longer a beleiver, but I do respect that you are. I won't try to make you feel like you ought to be an atheist now that you are no longer a JW if you don't try to impose, promote, preach, pontificate or proselytize your religion or theism on me. Some people do that unfortunately. Welcome!

Thanks Cofty, but I was also responding to Believer. If you are being led or driven by your emotions, you will respond emotionally when things don't go your way. And this site will make you 'feel' beat down.
I suggest a new strategy R2. Put your emotions, feelings, beliefs and whatever biased thoughts you have about everything on the shelf (or better flush them down the toilet), and open your mind to evidence, facts, and being rational about subjects. It is difficult. I understand. I struggle with it at times as well.
That includes everything in life in addition to debating on JW.com. We atheists continue to preach (like that word?) that an evidence based life is the best life and the only course that's going to advance our species.
The sooner we can leave religion behind, as it has been practiced for thousands of years, the better our species and our planet will be.

@tort1500,
So you've waited this long to post such nonsense, huh? You clearly haven't been paying any attention to what and who atheists are. I know a lot of atheists, and none of them became atheists because they are angry at god or anyone else. They did so because, like me, they evaluated the evidence over many years. All of the atheists I know are some of the most rational, even tempered people I know.My own atheism is typical. It was a decades long journey spent studying, researching, evaluating and meditating. My lack of belief in god at no time was fueled by anger or any other emotion. The reality of it all is that our planet has been slammed into on many occasions by very large rocks, resulting in the end of life for many species, global climate change and a start over for the life that remained. Experts suggest that it is only a matter of time before that occurs again. If the rock is big enough, none of us will survive.

Freeandclear,
I know this sounds trite, and I'm not meaning to minimize your present situation, but it really is a matter of perspective, isn't it.
You have chosen to dwell on the realization that there is no truth, no god, no paradise. It dominates your thoughts and controls your mood, your health, your life.
I suggest going to a counselor.
But you need to stop drinking now. If you don't you will have another problem to deal with, and it will make your present malaise even more profound.
Sometimes the way we respond to things is due to our DNA; sometimes it is due to our conditioning. Sometimes both. Whatever the root causes, you need to take a self assessment and realize that the balance sheet is extremely positive. There are many, many items or potential items in the column that represents life after the cult. There are very few items in the column that represents life in the cult, and if you have no family ties or none that would concern you if you lost them, that column is blank.
Either way you have nearly a blank slate to start over and experience life. A blank slate. Think about that and what it means. When I was in your situation, the very second i realized the DarkTower was nonsense I laughed at myself and felt a sense of relief.
My life was now my own, and I set my engines on warp factor 4 and never looked back. Your life is now your own. It will be what you want it to be, but you must stop anesthetizing yourself with alcohol and you need to talk to a therapist.
Good luck.
.
