JM,
I'm joking. He seems a nice man.
while reading the magazines the other day it occurred to me that jws never really had a very good answer to that question.
because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".
i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

JM,
I rest my case. One of these is a blood sucking vampire who sucks the life out of the unsuspecting innocents.
The other is a fictitious character in movie lore based on Vlad the Impaler, aka Dracula.

I'm just glad Looter showed up again. I was hoping my presence would be a disturbance in his 'force.' And also in that Lucas/Jedi Knight/Star Wars thing-ey. I'm not on FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumbler or any other social media, so this is the only place I can get followers. Looter had me worried there for a few days.
Nice to know I still 'got it.'
We're being too hard on Looter. With his after school job, I mean his part-time job he uses to supplement his Social Security retirement income, he has to be stressed. At least he can be thankful Walmart reversed course and started hiring greeters again.
Looter is keeping our prices low so that we can save money, live better. And he's protecting all of that Chinese stuff from going walk-about. I mean Inventory.
I for one thank him.

JM,
I watched the video from Count Von Sheen, I mean Bishop Sheen. I'm trying hard to ignore the fact he reminds me of a creepy master of the house vampire just before he sucks your blood after the sun goes down.
Nope. Not impressed. God 1. Unicorn Sparkle Poney 1.
Try again.

SBF,
I don't know any atheists who have stated there is proof a god doesn't exist. Saying there is no evidence of a god is not the same as saying there is proof. And saying a loving, caring creator as presented by x tians cannot exist is also not saying there is proof that a god doesn't exist.
But you already know that.
OTOH, billions of theists will tell you there is proof god exists. Cause they feel it, want it, desire it, need it.
If you're going to zing Cofty, you must do better.

Looter,
Thank you for the encouragement. I will definitely keep it up as you suggest.
And it turns me on when you call down evil on me. Is that from you or your insecure, vindictive blood thirsty god speaking? Or is there a difference?
Yeah, makes me wanna worship her.
More please.

Yeah, as I stated. Spin and the old "god will fix things in the end" nonsense. You DO know that all of these postulations of yours, JM, are nothing but made up fanciful conjecture designed to make religious beliefs somehow make sense in the face of the overwhelming evidence against it, don't you?
Just because they have emanated from old men with a bit of education and credentials does not make them any less fanciful.
We have heard all this stuff before. Ad nauseam. Continuing to believe it makes as much sense as believing in VIv's Unicorn Sparkle goddess.

Cofty,
I've stayed out of this discussion, as they violate one of my prime directives. But your post above, if read with an open mind free of religious programming and that god awful religious spin, would be all that anyone needed to cast religion and fairy tale gods away forever. Other than "god is going to 'fix' everything at some point in the future,' I don't see any theist arguments left regarding a loving, caring father/god who gives a fukk about his creation.
If the god of theism exists, he is a Monster and his son a chip off the old block (Daddy's Lil' Monster).
Well done.
abuse is such a serious word and i'd hate to use it lightly so if anyone reading this has suffered physical or sexual abuse please know that i absolutely do not equate religious abuse with your suffering.
that being said, many of us were lied to and manipulated for decades.
this cultic 'abuse' has borne fruit in shattered relationships, broken families and estranged children.
Great topic,
I think y'all know how I feel on this subject. When my kids were young I had few 'rules', even considering the DarkLords. One rule was they could never use the word "bored," and the other rule was they could never think, talk or act like a victim. Both of them would tell you those two 'rules' contributed greatly to their success.
Of course we were all in some ways victims. However, we all have to take more than a bit of personal responsibility. I don't have an issue with acknowledging our victimization. For a few minutes. What I have a problem with is marinading in it. Savoring it. Making it our best friend and never, ever letting it go. A lot of people on this site seem to relish in being a perpetual victim, and some of us reinforce that.
That is a destructive trait and we all should work on replacing 'victim' with 'victor' as quickly as possible.
Are you a victim of the victim mentality?

The Victim Identity
The allergic reaction to personal responsibility means a difficult life.
since leaving the jws i have looked into many beliefs and have come to this conclusion.. paganism has a high regard for women, as they worship goddesses and respect the female for the ability to give birth to new life.
christianity puts females in second place to males and blames women for male temptations which goes back to eve eating the fruit and tempting adam with it.
they also created a devil with the appearance of the pagan god pan and built churches on pagan worship sites so that people would still go there to worship, but within a christian building.. i have come to the conclusion that paganism versus christianity is about a battle of the sexes.. the fear of demonic forces is taught by religions to deter you from straying.
DL2,
The DarkLords used to use that line, that humans need to worship something or have a spiritual need that had to be met. I can't speak for any other human other than myself, but I missed that gene.
I've never understood deifying people or putting them on pedestals. I don't believe the concept of god was ever a part of my consciousness. I was an x-tian and a dub solely because I was a born in and was enculturated into it.
Since leaving the cult I've not had one second where I thought I needed something 'spiritual' in my life. I don't understand the concept to be truthful, and I find it an un-evolved way of thinking and feeling. But that's me.
If you want to consider the beauty of nature, the wonders of the universe, great architecture, great art and wine and my GF's rear end as being 'spiritual', then I'm all over it.
