LisaRose,
I'm very sorry for your loss.
i found out this morning that my brother died last night, he was also an ex jw, 73 years old and died of heart disease and kidney failure.
it was not totally unexpected, as he had been in poor health, but it's a blow, especially as i just lost another brother two years ago.
there were six of us, now only four.
LisaRose,
I'm very sorry for your loss.
i know i've started similar topics before but this time i'm serious.
my parents have been constantly pressuring me and after yesterday's watchtower study they asked me if i was going to be baptized this summer... and i said yes.
i probably should have thought about it more before making a final decision, but they're pretty much forcing me to do it anyway.
BW,
If you let them coerce you into baptism, and you can't manage a quiet fade over the next few decades without ending up in the elders' crosshairs, and based on what we hear that will be unlikely, you will resent them with anger as they shun you possibly until they pass away or you get reinstated. Rinse and repeat.
If you don't get baptised you can keep a relationship with them over the decades. They may use guilt for a while to try to control you, but it is almost a certainty that sooner or later that will fade, especially as you get older stronger and wiser.
That's your 2 futures.
Please dont get baptised.

BW,
That would be a mistake, possibly the worst mistake of your young life and one you will likely regret making for the rest of your life. Baptism into the cult changes EVERYTHING about the choices you make. The cult hates it's young people.
Please dont.
yes, i read pink news from time to time.
i'm a gay man.
so sue me.
Coded,
I won't sue you for being gay if you won't sue me for being straight.
Well, mostly
there is no typical jw personality type.. any of us who were in the religion for a number of years will remember all sorts of individuals.
there is as much variety among jws as there is in the general population.
some were arrogant and judgemental but others were humble and kindly.
Best OP ever. Sadly the same end of time nonsense is still alive and well amongst so many in our group. As Elsa said, "Let it go. "
We are in the best time ever. FMF said it well.
with last night's meeting it became official: here in the states is a must to keep up with 'jehovah's org' that one fully jumps on board with this tablet/iphone crap.. so, now, all of us that up to this point have refused to follow the wtbts in their electronic/wireless revolution will deal with the browbeating from the 'spiritual' ones.. already receiving lots of grief from hubby and rest of the family/close friends when seen at the meetings with paper publications.
damn it!!!
am i alone in this resistance???!!!.
i remember many years back a fellow ministerial servant saying this to me.
he felt that even if jehovah’s witnesses were not the only true religion, the regimented routine of meetings and field service and the strict rules and enforcement provided a beneficial structure for his life.
at the time i thought if this wasn’t “the truth”, i’d have no need for all that “structure”.
Ditto Londo,
People who need someone telling them what to do, what to think and how to behave are pathetic weaklings better suited for the ash heap of our species ' DNA history.
Karl Marx was thinking about them when he made his opiate and religion remarks.
Now I have to go projectile vomit.
i am seven months without bible bashing, without door-knocking, or standing by a trolley cart looking like a prat.
and i feel the real winners are the " lucky bastards" who haven't been told about jehvover.
furthermore they are spared super pious me telling them what they can and can't do.
The Rebel,
You are on a role; don't stop. Isn't that the best-est feeling EVER, not having to bother people with our arrogant nonsense. Plus we get to sleep in, go hiking, stay out all night . . . . . Saturday mornings rock.
