  Introduction - Any Believers?

  i’ve been reading it for a few of years off and on, but have been a little too ... maybe ... timid to join.

  i left the watchtower organization almost 20 years ago but never abandoned my faith and belief in god.

  i knew the gb/organization didn’t represent god, so when i lost my faith in them, i managed to keep my faith in an all wise benevolent creator.

  Believer has chastised us atheists because we hurt theists' feelings. Apparently theists want to believe whatever they want to believe and have us mean ole atheists respect it. Like most atheists I respect theists' right to believe whatever nonsense they wish. I have zero respect, none, for theists' rights to express those beliefs publicly, to practice those beliefs when they are harmful or to try to spread their infection to others. No respect. Zilch.   Believer picks and chooses the parts of the bible that make her feel nice. She refuses to accept anything about her god that isn't rainbows and unicorns. Her head is firmly planted up her ass, I mean in the sand. Her religion is a religion of one. Believer. And that is her right. It isn't her right to attempt to spread that infection to anyone else and it especially isn't her right to try to spread that infection on the world wide web without rational, intelligent (hint hint) people pushing back.   Her religion isn't one of choice; it is of her own making. It is narcissistic, immature and egocentric. It is no different than the religious beliefs of Jim Jones, David Koresh, Heavens Gate or those who have deified Lindsay Lohan (that would be me). Her religion is lazy brained and selfish, and it deserves absolutely no respect. Her beliefs and her belief system - the manner in which she derived those beliefs - is ridiculous and deserves to be ridiculed.

  at church this afternoon it was an uncanny experience.

  in the past i've read a lot about mormons, so i thought i was prepared in general for what it would be like.

  CNS, the source referenced by Tenacious. was founded by and continues to be staffed and managed by ultra right wing republican conservatives with an x-tian fundamentalist slant. It is a biased right wing fundie organization.

  
  

  CNS is citing the Geophilosophical Association of Anthropological and Cultural Studies as the source of this 'news' item. (Whaaaatt?) The GAACS is not an academic source, there is no author cited, and there was no study cited.

  
  

  Regarding Dr. Kaku: Nothing on this topic appears on Kaku’s official website, and a search of academic sources reveals nothing written by Kaku referring to “semi-radius tachyons." Physicists have no idea whether or not they exist.

  
  

  This 'story' is indicated to be at least 2 years old and it continues to get new play time because it appeals to the fundies and increases ratings.

  noone and nothing can really prepare you for the burning pain you feel when your spouse leaves you after 8 years of marriage.

  from one day to another, all your dreams, hopes and plans are shattered.. i still have so many questions which will remain unanswered in eternity.. the thread i made a few weeks ago, is part of this story.

  after learning about ttatt my plans involved to wake up my wife as well and exit the truth.

  I am no longer a beleiver, but I do respect that you are. I won't try to make you feel like you ought to be an atheist now that you are no longer a JW if you don't try to impose, promote, preach, pontificate or proselytize your religion or theism on me.   Thanks Cofty, but I was also responding to Believer. If you are being led or driven by your emotions, you will respond emotionally when things don't go your way. And this site will make you 'feel' beat down.

  I suggest a new strategy R2. Put your emotions, feelings, beliefs and whatever biased thoughts you have about everything on the shelf (or better flush them down the toilet), and open your mind to evidence, facts, and being rational about subjects. It is difficult. I understand. I struggle with it at times as well.

  That includes everything in life in addition to debating on JW.com. We atheists continue to preach (like that word?) that an evidence based life is the best life and the only course that's going to advance our species.

  The sooner we can leave religion behind, as it has been practiced for thousands of years, the better our species and our planet will be.
