  The inspectors-Clouseaux like "Dr" Hans (Where the hell did they get that name) Blix may not find any smoking gun. Is it possible that the greater amounts of WMD were moved across borders to other countries?

  Remember, terrorism and their organizations are not ruled or deterred by geographic borders. I think we saw that on Sept. 11. It could be well possible that terrorist cells will plan for a swift and purposed counter-attack on Anglo-American soil (aka "The West", the "Great Satan", the "Infidels", ad nauseum) right after any U.S. or U.N. coalition attack on Iraq. That could be the reason why minimus observed people becoming "faint out of fear" over this looming war in particular. That's just my theory, of course.

  I have found as well, that research and documented proof of facts can also be a prong in a patient, reasoned approach as well. I have a huge file of printouts of actual WTS letters, and documentation, like Ray Franz reprinted in his books, and these are priceless.

  JWs may teach "convincing argument" in the Ministry School, but there is no more convincing argument than the facts and truth!

  And, if you lurk here and at other DBs, you will find many telling experiences like wannaexit's here, which are real life examples of what it takes to help with this kind of mental deprogramming, so to speak.

  I didn't read this post before using those same IRS numbers in another post...it's not like the poor can complain about income tax...if they don't pay any!

  Patriotism has sunk to new lows, Nationalism has seen a resurgence. Forcing someone to say the pledge is nationalistic, not patriotic. Living as a productive citizen, in the spirit of the pledge, is patriotic, not nationalistic.

  WT Study 01/12/03: Linking Salvation to Literacy?

  yesterday's wt study's specious attempt to forge a link to literacy/reading comprehension/ study of the bible got me to wondering about the historic levels of world literacy.

  i. it would seem that the people of biblical times had neither public schooling nor any widespread access to copies of the scriptures.

  hand-copied scrolls from the sacred writings were in the possession of the elite ruling and clerical classes; hence the custom of public readings of scriptures at the synagogues on the sabbath, ostensibly to the masses who had neither the ability to read or access to these writings.

  So, in reality, the mentality of the WTS leadership hasn't changed much from this:

  There are probably as many as a hundred colored brethren on the Watch Tower lists, some of them very clear in the truth, and very earnest in its service, financially and otherwise. We have received letters from several of these, who had intended engaging in the volunteer work, expressing surprise that in the call for volunteers in the March 1st issue we restricted the inquiry to white Protestant churches. They rightly realized that we have not the slightest of race prejudice , and that we love the colored brethren with just the same warmth of heart that we love the white, and they queried therefore why such a distinction should be made in the call. The reason is that so far as we are able to judge, colored people have less education than whites - many of them quite insufficient to permit them to profit by such reading as we have to give forth. Our conclusion therefore is based upon the supposition that reading matter distributed to a colored congregation would more than half of it be utterly wasted , and a very small percentage indeed likely to yield good results.

  If they can't read, the WTS couldn't be bothered with them. Afterall, the illiterate can't be propagandized, and they would generally offer less financial support for their publishing empire.

  It's quite telling how things haven't changed in 103 years.

  i find it extremely amusing how each year is passing without armageddon.

  "for the year 2000, i visualize a world transformed into a beautiful paradise!

  but i don't think that either the present world or its rulers will live to see that day.. we are living in the last days of the system of things.

  Actually, exposing this cult for what it is is a form of Armageddon (although the WTS will cry "persecution").

  Francois had a good idea:

  Armageddon will NEVER come. The Love of God will one day prevail upon this planet, which was the divine plan all along. And then we'll see that each person can not only sit under his own fig tree next to his own grape vine, but that each can worship the God of their own understanding in their own way. The very definition of religious freedom.

  It is the Witness who mistakes uniformity for unity. People can live in unity and still be diverse, and certainly that is more of a paradise than fascist uniformity, which is rules-based, oppressive, and in its very essence, un-Christian, which is the theocratic new world order that Witnesses hope for. The magazines glorify a physical paradise, while the inner soul is rent in two.

  And, in contrast, their "Jehovah" is shown responsible for horrendous terrorism and destruction, out of which they march out of in joy and song, claiming "victory" and a sanctification of Jehovah's name.

  "COC"=any effect?

  i posted about a week ago on another forum about a very close friend of mine whom i am trying to get out of the org.

  she was baptized when she was 15 and she's now 24. i want to marry her,but i have to get her out first, which i know all to well is extremely difficult.

  through extensive research it seems to me my only chance is to get her to read "coc" and "isocf", which she has agreed to do.

  I wish I could write something with that kind of tone...but I would still be way too harsh. Ray's excellent job of this coupled with his extensive study, knowledge and evidence will do more to help, as opposed to corrupt, one's mind.

  In my mind, there's no other who's been where he's been and seen what he's seen, in terms of the WTS's inner workings. One of the more surprising findings for me is the GB's 2/3 majority requirement to get anything passed or changed. So you could have a vote of, say 10-6 for reforming the blood policy, but, no dice, because that's not 2 thirds!!! But 11-5, and we're in business.

  It has been known that issues have been decided on one member swaying his vote, much like they sway their genitalia in a competition to see whose is bigger.
