wanderer reminded me of an answer that i frequently get when confronting dubs with information obtained through the internet.
even if it's a scan of a wts publication, the typical dub seems to be well schooled in refusing to give any credibilty to anything that comes from a website other than watchtower.org.
has anyone had any luck finding more "credible" sources for info?

my friend has been a jw study for 9 yrs., not baptized yet.
but believes it all, as far as i know.
we rarely get to spend any one-on-one time, but we are going on an over-night trip this weekend.
Since she is talking so much about friendships and such, you might ask, "What happens to friendships when someone is disfellowshipped?" She will say that you can't talk to them or something to that effect. Then say,"That seem awfully shallow and conditional. It seems to me that in a true friendship you would want to help and guide a friend through any crisis they may be having, not shun and ignore them..." and you could take it from there. if you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things.
because all the evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years.
Hi TweetyBird!
Your post reminded me that I just heard that the man who was PO at my old congregation had to be put in an old folks home. He wasted his whole life for the Borg and now has nothing to show for it, no family, no future, nothing. The person that handled the arrangements was the current PO since the oldtimer has no relatives. So sad.

Hi Carla!
Too true! Fortunately, in this particular case, the boy's Mum was on my side. She wanted him to go to school too, so it was a pretty easy job to convince him.

I actually used that quote a long time ago (mid-nineties) when I conducted a book study. A teenaged boy told me after a meeting that he was reconsidering college because "the time was so close" and that he should pioneer instead.
I had just seen that Awake! quote a few days earlier on Kent Steinhaug's website (I think). So I calmly reached over to the bound volumes and pulled one down and after a little searching found that quote and read it to him. I asked, "What do you think of that?"His reply was something to the effect of "See, the end is coming, I may not even get to finish school." or something like that. Then I showed him the spine of the bound volume with 1969 on it and said, "The 'young persons' who read that article back then are now in their mid-forties (back then) The point is don't put your life on hold waiting for the new system. You are obligated to make your way in this world while its still around. Go to school!"
The upside to this story is that he did go to school and is today a civil engineer for the city of Memphis TN. He still goes to meetings though, the last I heard.

Mine was easy! My middle name is Cyrus and I am of Jewish-Iranian (Persian) ancestry. I use my middle name as an alias in various chats and myspace, etc.and I'm often asked if I am really Billy Ray Cyrus (a country singer) and I always say,"No, I'm just plain Cyrus and I look like a gas station attendant, Sorry!"

shannon here.... a confessed "lurker" for a very, very, long time and a rare poster to the board......i just wanted to drop a quick note to all of you.. please keep doing what you're doing..providing a refuge for so many.
you all make me feel reassured that if in 4 years from now i may have a breakdown (because deprogramming is a lifelong ailment) and need to find strength and encouragement, or even just someone to hear my story and believe me...i will always know that you are all here.
no judgment, no criticism...but instead providing a way for anyone who visits this board a little challenge at times, a large amount of humor, some psychological services...and a great big dose of the real truth.. you guys are great...you make me laugh, you make me smile and you make me feel fantastic about my decision to leave by your constant reassurance that truly living is all about thinking for yourself.. i'll be sure to start posting more regularly because i'd like to start to get to know you guys better and in turn become a source of comfort, wisdom and humor to others that have gone through what we have.. hugs to you all.. shannon.
Hi!
Welcome to the board! Just like you, I mostly lurk here too. This is a great place with a lot of intelligent people. I have really learned a lot here! How is your education going now? Are you still maintaining that high GPA? What's your major? I know...lots of nosy questions...
