Crowboy, People that supposedly convert from atheism to Christianity usually are not very proficient in sound logical argument, nor are they familiar with modern Biblical criticism. I think it's easy for the untrained mind who has never had any contact with Christianity to be taken in by some slick arguments. But, if they research these "logical conclusions" further they would find that the Christian "logic" is seriously flawed. B

There's just something about theists that say they were once atheists....
by logansrun inyou know the type, the ones that say, "oh yes.
i tried to not believe in god..." or "when i left the jws i became an atheist, but since i found jesus..." simply put, i don't believe them.
i don't think they ever really stopped believing in god.

People who can't distinguish feeling from thinking, suck. 6/9 -- That sums it up more succinctly than I've ever seen before! I like that! Bradley

I don't think they EVER really stopped believing in God. I think they went through a phase, a period of doubt that lasted for a moment. There probably was not a lot of research or thinking put into their temporary non-belief in God, just a feeling. Not liking this feeling they rededicate themselves to Jesus or get swayed into some Evangelical movement. Then they can say, "You know, I was an atheist once..." and rattle off how they have since "seen the light." This is supposed to be an example for atheists or agnostics of someone who was "one of them" who is now a Christian. I find personal examples like this wholly unconvincing. Simply put, they were "atheists" for all the wrong reason.
So, that's what I think is happening with people like this. Their "atheism" was not a clearly thought out, reasoned quest to find out if belief in God or the Bible is rational. No, their "atheism" was a passing fancy not backed up by research or honest introspection. Just a thought I've had.

Jessica Rabbit,
You have just described my brother-in-law, a militant "super JW elder." Yeah, I hate that too.

Me: snobbery, ignorance, flourescent lighting and hands that are shedding innocent blood.

Scientists have found that an identical twin can have an immediate reaction to the other twin emotions, despite the fact that they could be many thousands of miles apart......
Now, what they have noticed is an instant and simultaneous change in Photon’s around each twin when this happens.... so the Photon’s are a carrier of instant communications, and as they ignore time, distance and matter they can be found everywhere, right throughout the Universe...... so, in effect, this scientifically proves my thoughts or anyone's thoughts or prayers could be heard in Heaven wherever it may be.
The part about the twins is a pretty bold claim. Would you care to cite some documentation for this?

Oxnard,
Logansrun, why are you such an ass? So anyone who disagrees with you is "stupid" and therefore a target for your ridicule?
No, not everyone that disagrees with me is "stupid." You're overgeneralizing my comments. You said (basically) that NOTHING could change your mind about there existing a God, in fact, the Biblical God at that. It doesn't take a genius to conclude that you have then turned your mind off to the idea that you are wrong, hence my comment. I don't "believe" in the Biblical God, but I cannot say that it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to have evidence of His existence. You, on the other hand, are SO SURE that you have closed off your thinking capabilities on the matter.A lot of people believe in God. And they probably wouldn't change their mind no matter what. Guess you have a lot of people to ridicule. Hop to it pal.
Wrong. I know some people that believe in God but recognize that there is no proof and they could be wrong. In fact, I really hope that some sort of Deity exists, but I'm not counting on it. You've discounted every single possibility except the one you now hold. I find that sad. Bradley -

Oxnard,
Sounds like you're not going to let anything change your views.
No, I'm not.Ah. I see you checked your brain at the door on your way in. Well, welcome anyways. Bradley

Has your life gotten better as an athiest/agnostic?
by StinkyPantz inthis quote got me thinking:if you pray sincerely and admit you are a sinner and accept christ as your savior you can have the holy spirit come into your life.. .
i used to do this everyday.
when i was being abused, i used to pray incessantly for god to help me.

Oxford,
logansrun - Sorry, but I think that is a ridiculous question.
I said it was hypothetical. What's so ridiculous about that?
You know I believe in both God and the afterlife, and you are making me choose just to prove my beliefs are silly.
And you wouldn't dare talk about it because you feel they might be?
If you all want to think I'm nuts because I still believe in God, fine.
I don't think you're "nuts" for believeing in God.
But I am getting the impression that some of you left the JWs with a bitter taste in your mouth. You can't let a group of people who take everything from some magazine, published by people who are self proclaimed faithful and discreet slaves, sway how you believe.
Hmmm. Let's replace your last sentence with a few words and see how different it is from what you just said:
You can't let a group of people who take everything from the Bible, published by people who are self proclaimed prophets, sway how you believe.
Yeah, that's it
