Splash said:if the CO gets this each week from the congregations he visits, that's a very useful $26k salary he's got there!
The $500.00 goes directly to the society for the CO arrangement. But it is not unrealistic to surmise that COs receive 500.00 from all the green handshakes. When I was a kid my folks always gave an envelope with money to any visiting circuit overseer and their wives and so did many in the congregation. Today I see the same thing.

During the course of the year congregations pass a number of resolutions to send money to the branch. This year I've resolved to count all money grab endeavors. So far for the month of January there were two locally:
1. it was resolved to send the surplus of the congregation's donations. This was a tidy sum of $15.000
2. it was resolved to send $500.00 for the care of the circuit overseer's car and medical expenses.
I find this amount staggering as the area is socioeconomically weak. I can only imagine what other wealthier congregations are sending.

What I Saw & Heard in the Oral Argument Hearing on January 14, 2015
by ABibleStudent inim not an attorney and i could not record the hearing, so please forgive me if i make mistakes in relating what i remember of the oral argument hearing for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society on january 14, 2015 and the length of this post.. i arrived at the civic center/union plaza in san francisco, ca about 7:30. the area is very nice with a few homeless people sleeping in the park across from the courthouse.
it took me about 10 minutes to find the clerks office for the court on the first floor, which opened at 8:00.. once the clerks office opened, the two clerks who i talked with were very polite and helpful.
the arguments for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society were scheduled 5th out of (i think) 8. while i was in the office a cameraman and another person for nbc arrived asking about the hearing for candace contis case.. the courtroom for the 1st appellate court is on the 4th floor and takes up most of that floor.

Wonderful report. I am a little nervous for Candice and her mom. I hope that the prior judgement against watchtower stands. -

Working Canadians contribute to the Canada Pension Plan (CPP). Upon retirement or if one became disables, the individual can collect a pension and added benefits.
These ex bethelites who have been kicked out to the curb, have given the their best working years to watchtower. The years where they could have contributed to CPP for their retirement are gone. Unless independently wealthy the only income in their later years is the old age pension which is a pittance.
What watchtower is doing to people is brutal and downright immoral.

For any jw lurker that feels that bethel is the place to be: Be WARNED. Remember that "mother" will use you, abuse you and then it will send you off with a swift kick out the door.

Wonderful story
I have to chuckle when you wrote of how you wrapped Ray's books and kept them under lock. My husband did the same thing when he first ordered them. He actually created dust jackets complete with fake titles printed on the book covers. And I remember the first time that I ventured on this forum and how many times I kept turning around as if someone was behind me even though I was in my own home.
I hope that you will share your watchtower experience further. After 50 years you must have much to tell us.
Regards,
