1974 Special Meetings
by NeonMadman inas we all know, armageddon was just around the corner in 1974. at the district conventions that year, it was announced that there would be two special meetings during the month of september; one would be for interested people (e.g., bible studies, family members, inactive, etc.
), and the other would be for baptized publishers.
these were to be held in place of the service meetings for the two weeks, iirc.

Those bring back memories. I was just a kid back then but remember the palpable feeling that year. -

Thank you Barb. I have great appreciation for Mr. Bundy. I've emailed him once thanking him for what he is doing but I think I will do it again for his latest article. It would be good if Trey received our positive comments for his part in exposing the pedophile issues. -

Midweek meeting
by loneranger inalmost two months into the change in format of the mid week meeting from the school and service meeting format to the christian life and ministry (clam) format.
in my congregation, seems attendance is down 10-15% over the normally low attendance for the mid week meeting before the change.
some indicate that the meeting under the clam format is very "intense"...you really need to study and research to be able to participate or get anything out of the meetings.

I am also noticing the the elders appear to be getting tired of it already. After all, 1 elder has to chair 3/4 of the meeting. In congregations that have a small body, these elders have to be prepared all the time and will be on stage quite often. Last week the one that chaired was so ill -prepared I felt sorry for him.

Last Day of Chemo
by azor intoday is the end of my son's 3 -1/2 year treatment for leukemia.
we had a small party at the hospital with nursing staff and a few friends.

The elder that said the "faithful an discreet slave class" sure isn't keeping up with "present truth"
I want to shout to him and say : get with the game buddy. Your leaders dropped the "class" thing. There is not more faithful and discreet slave CLASS. Your fearless leaders eliminated that.
Great Job Son of Thunder and thanks to Listener for sharing this.

Funeral Memorial Service: Who was this mystery man?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inlast night,my wife and i went to my cousins funeral memorial service.it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be.they had two video screens with pictures of my cousin from a baby to the end of his life.they stopped playing as soon as the service started and the screens were raised out of the way.. the family and close relatives arrived one hour earlier to find seats near the front rows and have a little family time.. there was a mystery man that was seated near the front with a tablet,a jw.org pin on his suit jacket and just sat there writing on his tablet the whole time without greeting anyone or even speaking.. does anyone know who this man could be?
was he sent by the society to make sure everything went well?.

I heard that at the memorial the instruction is to have a table with literature on it. So I am wondering if the same instructions are for the funerals.
