i'm still in - i have a genuine fear that coming out would kill my mother - but i've recently taken the first step away.
i told a non-jw friend that i knew it was all a load of nonsense and i didn't believe any of it.

AAHH yes --I remember those. While everyone else enjoys "the lazy days of summer", pioneers enjoy the "marathon service days before new service year starts".
I never participated in the 24 deals, I do remember the 12-13 hour dashes to finish. When I look back I am ashamed at myself for allowing my life to be controlled like that. :(

I remember this thread from way back.
Once 2 sisters were doing their talk during the TMS. They were pretending to talk on phones. The audience could see a mouse climbing up the cord. All,of a sudden two elders went running up the stage trying to capture this mouse who kept getting away. The audience was roaring with laughter. These were from the Greek congregation and we couldn't understand what they were saying. one was spitting at the other. No one was doing a thing to stop it. The elders were just watching on . he was found not guilty of one indecent assault charge, on the direction of the judge.. he was remanded in custody until he is sentenced next month but warned he is facing a lengthy spell behind bars.. prosecutor katherine dunn told the court the victim, who is now an adult, broke her silence in 2009.. the court heard how at a special church meeting, leighton admitted sexual abuse and made excuses for his behaviour.. miss dunn said: the elders conducted their own investigation.

i once attended a two day special assembly with my gums bleeding after having 4 widom teeth pulled the day before.
i managed the two days by rinsing out my mouth all day long and placing cotton in my mouth.. one brother had back surgery the week before but attended a two day assembly by laying on a matress in the back of the assembly hall.
why he needed to be there i'll never understand!.
Yep! that was my family. We never missed meetings ever. My father would drag us to the meeting coughing and hacking with fever. Meetings were never to be missed.
I remember one sick sister who dragged herself to the Sunday meeting only to faint and fall in the isle. What was really sad --the bro giving the talk just kept on talking-the show had to go on.

I believe Oompa made a big impression on many of us. I miss him too.
it was a cold winter evening i walked nervously towards the kingdom hall.
it was a day "special", the judicial committee had to decide whether i deserved to remain in his "holy organization".
