Funeral Memorial Service: Who was this mystery man?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inlast night,my wife and i went to my cousins funeral memorial service.it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be.they had two video screens with pictures of my cousin from a baby to the end of his life.they stopped playing as soon as the service started and the screens were raised out of the way.. the family and close relatives arrived one hour earlier to find seats near the front rows and have a little family time.. there was a mystery man that was seated near the front with a tablet,a jw.org pin on his suit jacket and just sat there writing on his tablet the whole time without greeting anyone or even speaking.. does anyone know who this man could be?
was he sent by the society to make sure everything went well?.

I heard that at the memorial the instruction is to have a table with literature on it. So I am wondering if the same instructions are for the funerals. -

So in Britain and Ireland they are not going to ask for donations only if the householder inquires about funding. Does it have to do with the Charity Commission situation? -

Donation reminders in the magazine
by wisdomfrombelow ini just noticed that in recent study editons of the watchtower they mention on the inside cover that the magazines are free of charge but if you want to make a donation you can at their website.
i noticed it from the march 2016 edition.
i wonder if will be in the clam meeting workbooks as well...

Now that I read this thread, I remembered that last week's silouette presentation had the witness say the little blurb: " if you want to make a donation, I would be happy to accept it"
The last 5 years of so they got away from asking for money at the door, but it appears the they are going to be begging at the doors too.

Quality of JW teaching from elders
by sir82 inthere was a recent thread on the "quality" of converts to jws in recent years.
it wasn't a pretty picture, based on the thread contents.. well, the lack of depth isn't restricted to new converts.. in our clam this week, one of the principal points for review was this:.
ne 1:1; 2:1—why can we conclude that “the 20thyear” mentioned at nehemiah 1:1 and 2:1 is countedfrom the same starting point?

When this question was raised, NO ONE had their hand up. Not one person in the congregation. There are a dozen elders and NO ONE could give the answer. Then someone decided to give it a shot and started reading from the watchtower article. He literally read a few paragraphs before realizing he didn't know what the hell he was reading and stopped cold turkey apologizing that he couldn't find the answer. It was a hoot.!!!! -

JW Expressions We Hate
by Socrateswannabe ini was browsing through stuff on jw.org recently and ran across some expressions that really grate on my nerves: loyal love, loving-care, and loving-kindness, as in: "please exercise loving-kindness toward your servant.
" who talks like that?
they must be relics of the fred franz era.

I really dislike:
"One scholar said"
"Jehovah"
"But they are worldly"
"going to the hall"
"family worship"
"Going pioneering"
"Need greaters"
"the anointed"
"stepping stone to greater activity"
"reaching out"

Enthusiasm has waned. Although for pioneers, I think its still a great way to get their time in. -

How do you feel about the expression "The Truth"?
by stuckinarut2 init's amazing how the expression "the truth" has become such an ingrained term used by witnesses.. "we have 'the truth'".
"is he 'in the truth'?".
most here have found out so many facts about the organisation, and felt the effects of being "gut-punched" as we realised these facts.. so how do you feel about the expression "the truth" now?.

Stopped using this expression a long time ago. We call it the "troof"
