  cosmetic surgery!!!

  all these shows lately on telly - like nip/tuck etc.

  highlighting cosmetic surgery got me to thinking of about 20 odd years ago as a dub..how prevalent cs was.

  i knew two young women (aged about 17 / 18) who had breast reduction operations in the same cong, of course it was very `hush, hush` at the time but considering it was a small country cong - that seems like a rather high ratio of non-necessary surgery to me........any other experiences of this?

  Would they be more likely to be judemental about the suicide attempt or the surgery or could this vary by congregation? Just curiousity on my part. My MIL has had mental problems all her life and isn't exactly known for telling the truth all the time.

  I think that the cong would be `judgemental` in regard to your MIL for both of those things - the surgery and the suicide attempt. Perhaps the suicide attempt would fuel a lot more judgementalism than the surgery as they believe that to suicide is a major sin. Maybe they treat her a bit different as she has `mental issues` too - their opinion is that denial is preferable to treatment.

  because of the awful back pain. True Panda, however, in these girls cases it WAS purely cosmetic....it seemed to be the rage at the time (over 20yrs ago).......they were not overly endowed and I doubt that today they would be advised to undergo such correction. Even my daughter who did have major back problems due to her breast size was advised against surgery at least until she was older... Other JW`s I knew had stomach stapling - nose jobs etc......maybe it was just a fad at the time..

  "Abhor what is wicked" - and yet JWs allow domestic violence?

  old story just came to mind as i was browsing through the watchtower's website (because i can't sleep and i truly find it entertaining) and read an article about abhoring that which is wicked.

  i was never a jw - my husband was until he was 20, and is now inactive.

  he told me a story that just infuriates me to no end, and i have to wonder if it is common.

  It is scary how much this could happen. It sure is!!! and it happens often.......my dub couzin married a dub....AND (get this) arrived at my door with a black eye on her honeymoon - all this was reported to the elders by me and my then dub husband. No action was taken - rather my couzin was admonished to be submissive to her husband. The violence continued over many years (about 15yrs) and reported at various times by my couzin and others to elders without gaining any support. The final decision for her to leave dubdom came when she was raped by her husband, and after reporting it to the elders NOTHING!!!! So.....she gathered the strength to leave...........Shame on them.....and shame on the authorities to ALLOW this to continue.................

  why is it a social custom to say "congratulations" to a guy when his wife/gf has had/is having a baby?.

  what has he done to deserve the sentiments?

  all he's done is have an orgasm and spurt some semen into her?

  has anyone read this book by patricia cornwell?

  i enjoyed all of the forensic science which she clearly explained, and just imagine, what if she's right ?

  just goes to show that today it ain't easy to get away with murder --- even if you did it over a century ago.

  Frankly if you read it, he fits the profile perfectly, and she makes a VERY compelling case.

  I agree....its a very good book and very well researched.....I think she has a good case against Seckert - he certainly had the capacity, intelligence and motive to commit the crimes! I enjoyed the book.

  for me, it was gwar's violence has arrived.

  i remember loving that band so much when i first heard of them to the point where i downloaded everything they had, from album mp3's to rare bootlegs.

  Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield...its the theme from the Exorcist for those that may not know..I was 19 and my MUm made me throw it it the River.......I brought another copy on CD a few years ago! What a rebel!!
