Okaayyy, when I read the answer, which was just the text, on my (semi-smart)phone, I thought that was the strangest reply I'd ever seen. Then just now I read it on the computer, and, lo, there are icons there that went with the comments! Who knew? The reply made sense! My question (unclear, I realize), though, was referring to the icons to be used in posting. I realize the question mark, at least one of them, means the post is a question, but is there a difference between the green one and the blue one? Also, what are the blue-I-on-white and the white-I-on-blue? (I'm new at this whole forum thing.) Thanks!

I feel like an idiot, but what do the icons stand for? Some are obvious, such as the thumbs up and thumbs down, but others I'm not sure about. Thanks.

"Welcome" message wording on .com site
by JustMe2 init's certainly true that the site is "friendly" and "informative".
i'm concerned about the word "tolerant", however, because some posts can be very blunt and outspoken, and newcomers might not be expecting them to be that way.
perhaps it would be well to add something along the lines of "spirited" or "straightforward" discussion in the welcome message, so newbies won't be surprised and possibly turned off before they see all the site has to offer..

Your views and ideas on forum areas and organization?
by Simon inthis may come as a shock to some people, but the current forum structure was kind of thrown together without much real thought and then evolved a bit over time.
there are a few things that particularly grate on me and areas where i don't think the subjects work particularly well.
'friends' is a bit vague and becomes a dumping ground, news & world events vs politics & current affairs is hard to decide sometimes, child abuse is a scandal but isn't contained withing 'scandals & coverups' etc.... with a new forum platform imminent, it's a good time to solicit ideas to improve things.

Simon,
How about moving "Discuss anything Jehovahs Witness or WatchTower society related" from "Friends"? And maybe make it more specific to differentiate it from "Bible Research and Study Articles" and "Beliefs, Doctrines & Practices."
Separate "Personal Experiences" from "Reunions." Perhaps include experiences from newbies with others' experiences, or have it a subcategory. (I'm a near-newbie myself: MAYBE someday I'll actually write my own experience!)
Thanks for all your hard work.

The book The Dance of Anger: A Woman's Guide to Changing the Patterns of Intimate Relationships, by Harriet Lerner, might be of help to you. (It's not just for women!) One Amazon reviewer says, "She [Lerner] compassionately and wisely shows how to disengage from the anger and the counter-productive patterns, while staying connected and acting with integrity. However, she also acknowledges the effect that this sort of change can have on other people in the dance, and she provides guidance in maintaining oneself in the face of countermoves." It might very well fit your situation and be of assistance to you as you're endeavoring to cope. It's definitely worth taking a look at. I'm sorry for all you're going through.

Pedophile Elder Case in Warrensburg, NY 1982 - Nicholson
by Seeker4 ini just came across a thread from 2002, (i'll link it here in the next post), about congregations in upstate ny, many that were with a vt circuit i was in for many years.
in there i wrote the following about a infamous pedophile case involving an elder, don nicholson.
here was part of one of my posts on that thread.

Obviously, I didn't mean that the death of Jack Ashenback and the plane crash victims were minor details.
Also, I have no idea what Don Nicholson's current status within the congregation is.

Also, it was because Lee Steele was a retired state trooper that he insisted on pressing charges against Don Nicholson.

When I made the last post, I forgot that it would be at the end of the thread and not right after the post I was reading. The post referring to Don Nicholson concerns his disfellowshipping and arrest for pedophilia in 1982. He was disfellowshipped from the congregation in Warrensburg, NY. Lee Steele was the elder whose family members were molested by Nicholson. It was because Steele was a retired state trooper that he insisted on pressing charges against Nicholson.

Electronic Radio Biola sold in Awake! magazine for $465 each
by Calebs Airplane inwell, it was actually $35 usd each, but i adjusted for today's purchasing power of us currency.

There was an article in Awake! (probably late '80s or early '90s) warning people to be cautious about extreme alternative medicine treatments. I THINK that it was in that same article that a statement was made to the effect that rather than turn to worldy books for information about medical treatment, which might end up being useless or dangerous, it's better to go to Awake! for information. Could somebody see if they can find the actual quote? Thanks!

Some minor (and very late!) details: Don Nicholson wasn't related to David Tennent. Don's brother was Richard Nicholson. David's brother-in-law was Jack Ashenback, who I heard died recently. It was David's son and pregnant daughter-in-law, not the other way around, who died in the plane crash. Elaine Tennent is no longer a Witness.
Don Nicholson was reinstated, in another congregation, a number of years ago. As far as I know, he is still a Witness.
