I'm getting baptized
by BlackWolf ini know i've started similar topics before but this time i'm serious.
my parents have been constantly pressuring me and after yesterday's watchtower study they asked me if i was going to be baptized this summer... and i said yes.
i probably should have thought about it more before making a final decision, but they're pretty much forcing me to do it anyway.

It was suggested that you bring up the Australian royal commission, but it seems likely that if you do that your parents will suspect you of doing outside research. As OTWO said, "Don't be an expert like you have been reading outside materials." -

Resolutions at Kingdom Hall
by sieborg inanyhow i got to thinking today about my days in the borg and the resolutions that would intermittently be made in the announcements for co visit expenses, sending a donation to society www fund etc.
my point is that while i was in (almost thirty two years) i never once saw anyone put up their hand to vote against a resolution that the body of elders proposed.
on a couple of occasions i heard a few hushed murmurs but i never saw one person vote against.

The last few years I attended, I would happen to go to the restroom before certain resolutions were discussed. -

JWs and New Year's Resolutions
by JW_Rogue inanyone else find it odd that jws don't do new year's resolutions?
i have never read anything about it in any wt publication.
yet, it is like some unwritten rule.

The correct link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Year%27s_resolution
Apparently it doesn't make any difference that we're not worshipping Janus or the Babylonian gods or that our resolutions have nothing to do with them!

"Babylonians made promises to their gods at the start of each year that they would return borrowed objects and pay their debts.
"The Romans began each year by making promises to the god Janus, for whom the month of January is named."
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Year%27s_resolution" iSo the resolutions were part of the worship of the Babylonian and Roman gods. -

Is the term "worldly" outdated?
by A.proclaimer inyesterday i had to listen to the co from a spanish congregation on the phone.
he said the fds has been gradually moving away from the word "worldly" and teaching jws not to use the term anymore.
has anyone heard this in their congregation or heard the term "non-believers" used before?
-

Hey what about "worldling"? Don't take that away from us!
Sorry, slimboyfat, I'm afraid they took "worldling" away from us years ago! How about "earthling" instead? Or "soon-to-be-birdfoodling"?

I have doubts... can you help me??- A new idea
by HowTheBibleWasCreated ini have been perplexed as to how to brung my wife out of jws and to exit the religion... but i had an idea last night.
i know that elders will legitimantly meet with brothers who have doubts and encourage them... not df them .. this is a sheperding call etc.. thus since my wife knows i have doubt s i could say: i want to have two brother over to discuss this ... she will agree.... of course i will hit these guys with biblical textual issues, an biology to where they are stunned and still ask... "so brothers... can you solve this conflict...?".
in this case they will not think of me as an apostate but may question their own beliefs... .

The attitude you display could make a big difference to your wife. If you come out with both guns blazing and are obviously just trying to show up the elders, you'll come across to your wife as an obvious apostate, one who was merely pretending to have sincere doubts. It may just put her on her guard against you and could destroy any chance you have of reaching her.
Be careful!

Are Magicians Spawns of Satan the Devil?
by Cold Steel ini was perusing the internet not long ago and came upon this series of videos by a guy calling himself xendrius.
it declares that many of today's best magicians are in league with the devil.
his claims are based on his observation that the tricks would be impossible to do unless the magicians had made unholy pacts with the devil.. so what's the take of the wtbts?

There was an article many years ago saying that much magic for entertainment is sleight of hand, but it would be inappropriate to watch it because it gives the appearance of being supernatural (or words to that effect). Perhaps someone can find the quote? -

An elder bought my son a suit
by Clambake ini guess being two months old and coming to the kh in his onesee was kind of offensive .
how rude of me.
i am thinking about returning to him.

And of course a baby-business-suit must be accessorized with wingtip booties...
...with BLACK wingtip booties.
But NO colorful socks.

Other Religious Groups Critical of Higher Education
by Wild_Thing ini was reading an essay online about how witnesses are critical of higher education and discourage it.
the editor's note said there are other conservative religious groups that hold the same view towards education.. there are?
do any of you know of any religious group that works as hard as the jws at keeping their members stupid?.

The Amish go to school only through the eighth grade, (taught by girls with an eighth grade education). They study English, reading, writing, arithmetic and history. After eighth grade, they (just the boys?) receive vocational education until the age of 15. One reason they don't go to high school is to protect them from the "world". -

I think she was having problems with her memory, so perhaps that became too much of a problem for her to continue posting.
