I work in a casino. Working holidays and being pulled away from family sucks. I understand emergency services, etc., but I will never be the reason someone else has to work on a holiday and I have little respect for those who are willing to sacrifice others' holidays for a deal. if enough people refused to shop on these days then the businesses wouldn't open.

Working on Thanksgiving
by free2beme inevery year now, we all get story after story of the cruel practive of taking people away to work on thanksgiving.
while i was not raised to celebrate the holiday, and even after taking it on, i still see it as a dinner and at best a few friends and family members eating together.
yet for most americans, it is not really that big of a deal to work on thanksgiving.

Michael Brown verdict discussion policy
by Simon init's likely that the grand jury verdict on the michael brown incident will be released in the coming days or weeks.. i've no doubt many people are going to feel strongly about things whatever the verdict is.. whatever the outcome though, here's what's not going to happen:.
we're not going to put up with inflamatory language and comments designed to rile others up.
be respectful.. we will not allow accusations of racism simply because some have a view of the verdict that contradicts others.. there will not be invented evidence or claims being repeated - if it's been falsely reported or debunked then it's off limits.. it's not going to be an opportunity for people to air past gripes over past discussions.. if you feel that you cannot discuss the subject in a rational way then it may be better to simply avoid any topics on the matter.. please try to be objective and respectful if you do decide to comment and not keen to take offense.

You also used the article to support a claim that officer Wilson showed "quite a lot of aggression" and knew that Michael was unarmed. Neither of which do I think is supported, especially if your only referenced article is only cherry picking details.

Cherry picking means only reporting the details that you think support your agenda. Using the word allegedly does not refute that the article cherry picked the details it chose to report vs. those they chose not to.

Eye witness testimony is not very reliable in a high stress situation. I used to manage a restaurant before working in the casino. One night we were held up at gun point. When the police got there and took statements some of us thought there was one robber and others thought there were two. Some people invented a whole other person in their head due to the stress of the situation. It wasn't that they were trying to put one over on the police, eye witness testimony is just unreliable in such instances. That's why we don't take it at face value but look for forensic evidence to back it up.

I'm not sure how using the word allegedly refutes the cherry picking.

Apparently that he was shot in the back... Which has been proven false.
There red is also footage someone took after the shooting. If you ignore what the person taking the video is saying and listen to a background conversation you can hear someone who witnessed the event tell a much different version than what the reported witnesses have said.

So the officer waits for backup, let's someone get away, and the populace and media then jump on him for not being more proactive in taking a violent criminal who just robbed a store off the streets. waiting for backup is not always an option when your duty is to protect the community.
This tragedy could have also been avoided by Michael complying with the officer rather than attemting to forcibly take his gun. Why do you hold officer Wilson accountable for doing what he is sworn to do, what he is paid to do, what he is expected to do because it had a bad outcome but you do not hold Michael Brown personally responsible for his own actions that led to hid death.
Getting shot hot for stealing cigars is disingenuous.
Getting shot for jaywalking is disingenuous.
Michael was was shot for attempting to take an officer's gun by force. Nothing the officer did justified Michael's actions and it was Michael's actions that led to him being shot.

It says the police clashed with demonstrators using rubber bullets and tear gas. It doesn't mention the looting, rioting, destruction of property, or the fact that the police were having bottles and rocks thrown at them at times. Nor does it mention the peaceful protesting that was allowed to go on without conflict that I, myself, have witnessed.

Also, the same witnesses who said he was surrendering g and may have had his hands up... I notice the article doesnt point out that the same witnesses also said he was shot in the back... Which even the autopsy done by the family proves to be false. So it's already proven that these witness statements are not complety accurate.
