As part of the lease of these types of venues the WTS will need to have public liability insurance cover. So when someone claims for injury their insurer, not the WTS pays out. BUT, if the number and frequency of claims grows the WTS may find that they are unable to buy public liability insurance and therefore unable to meet all the conditions of such a lease so they may not be able to rent such places and have such conventions… now that would be a shame!

The Society prefers to pay out!!!!
by caspian ini was down at the london branch recently, talking to the the bros on the legal desk, when i came across an interesting snippet.. at uk district conventions, about half are indoor, and the rest are held in cold draughty football stadiums.. it seems that over the past 2 years, the amount of attendees of these conventions held in the outdoor stadiums, who are now sueing the society for injuries caused by trips and falls down steep stadium stairs has risen from an average of 1 or 2 per year to over 30 cases.. the availability of these new style no win no fee lawyers are proving to much of an attraction to those out for a quick buck.. the societies position, i thought was interesting, as the average payout is between 3k and 7k, they are quite happy to settle out of court, as it is cheaper than going to court.. i then got to thinking.
imagine if every apostate went to a convention, and took a little fall, trapped a finger, grazed a knee and so-on...... could turn conventions in to a very expensive hobby for the society... by the way simon, the forum looks great... .

Name some things you would do different....
by undercover inminimus' thread about things that used to upset you but now doesn't got me to thinking.
what are some things that you wished you had done(or hadn't done) if you could go back?
even if you have no regrets at being a witness, is there anything you would have done different as a witness?.

I would have never have got married to the person I did when I did and I would have continued on and finished my education rather than starting to finish it now.
I would not have accepted that first magazine!!!!

Kingdom Hall Alarm codes.
by JEMIMAH injust back from renovating my holiday home in the south west of france.
beats yorkshire anyday.... anyway thought i would share this little account with you.. as most are of you are aware, the alarm code for about 90% of kingdom halls is 1914 (nineteen fourteen).. i t seems though that for the last 8 or 9 quick builds or refurbs in the uk, the brother who installed the numbers into the alarm control panel used the numbers 1975 and explained the number as one nine seven five not the the easier version (ninteen seventy five).. trivial joke or honest mistake, either way this poor brother has been rumbled and has to to meet with 2 elders investigating on behalf of a body of elders to see whether an apostasy charge will be brought.. he is supposed to be meeting with them over the next few days.. .
a very sad jem, who is sick of the whole elder abuse game.

my ex used to install alarms for a living, and most of the new alarms be they JW homea or not were installed with 1914 as the base code, needless to say the KH alarm code was 1914.

Were You Depressed Because You Were A Witness?
by minimus init seems that many people here have been greatly depressed because they were or still are jehovah's witnesses.
what about you?
-
Downunderandout
Yes, at first I was fine and was on a JW newbie high, but as the reality of everyday life and the constant bombardment of "do more" "you are not good enough" I became depressed enought to warrent medication from my doctor.
Happy to say now, I am out and have been for three years, am fine, happy and balanced.

I have only been seeing my man for a short time but I just know that he is the one. He has made my eyes well up with sheer joy with some of things he does for me.
One time he was working in the city (were I live, he lives about 45 mins south of me) and before he left for work he prepared and packed up a picnic dinner including champagne and chilled glasses all in an esky of course, he turned up at my place and we had a wonderful picnic dinner on a hot barmy night.
Another time just recently, I was having a nap as I was not feeling great, and I woke to find a tiny vase next to the bed with sweet wild flowers in it so I would have something beautiful to gaze at when I woke.
He is the most romantic man I've ever met. DUO

Am way jealous, but we are having an A-fest here in Melbourne soon.
Now you will all remember to read your "how to behave at convention reminders" won't you:
- do save front row seats for those in your car group or immediate family and anyone else you happen to pick up on the way, we don't want the non-exjw's to take over the strip club;
- do plan to be there for the opening song, apparently Roxanne, the first chick on, is hot!;
- do remember to take notes, they could be quite useful when going over the days activities in the privacy of your hotel rooms;
- do remember to pack a light lunch and nibbles, your energy levels will be important when putting what you have learnt and observed into practice;
- do wear your lapel cards after the sessions and take the opportunity to informally witness to all those you come into contact with, we want to get as many people in the spa as possible; and
- and finally, do have a fantastic time, get to know each other real well and know that the rest of us across the seas will be thinking of you all.

Buster,
This does't seem to be a very extreme case.
So what do you classify as extreme? This child would have not doubt been conditioned to think that the elders are near god-like one of whom invades her space, innocence and trust!!!! All the while exercising his 'elder authority'!!!! How much more extreme do you want to get? Please remember this is a Child, trusting and innocent.
Any improper behaviour towards a child is extreme in my book.
