JG-this was an awsome post. I have never even thought about the issues that you've pointed out here, but they are so right on! God created us differently, and he knew we would have different gifts, and even encouraged us( as you pointed out) to use our individual gifts. But then, we know how the WT feels about individualism. IMO, God has never made another you or me, so we should be out there letting our unique and wonderously created lights shine. We should not be stuck in some man made mold that squashes our individualism.

The big talk with parents - need help!
by zenpunk inmy husband and i have decided to start a family this summer.
as exciting as that may be there's one issue that weighs heavily on my mind - what to do about both our sets of jw parents.
should we lay some ground rules down with them before the baby arrives (which they will probably break anyway)?

I think you will just have to monitor the time with their grandparents, and talk to the kids first reinforcing what you believe in, before the grandparents get the chance. My best friends daughter is only four and they have already tried to indoctrinate her with JW crapola. The other day she was talking about getting to see her grandpa who passed away in paradise. Her mother explained to her that grandpa was in heaven. She(my bestfriend) has explained to them multiple times that she does not want her daughter to learn that stuff, but they just don't seem to care.

I have a much more charitable heart than my husband. I don't say that to mean that he is a miser, but with him there is always a suspicion of what the person is using the money and if they truly need it. I completely understand this frame of mind, especially since so many have been taken advantage of. I see it a little differently though. We have been extremly blessed, and seldom do without. I try to be responsible with our finances and do not exceed what we can afford to give, but I rarely worry about the money I donate because I feel that what goes around comes around. We are blessed by the blessings we give others. I try to think of all money I give away as money I give to God, and I trust that he will make sure that it gets used appropriatly, and more importantly he knows the intentions of my heart. I do agree also, that sometimes it is better to give items such as clothing or food, if perhaps you suspect they may be spending the money on drugs or alcohol. IMO it's good to give whether it's time, money, prayers, or food.

JWs CAN CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS!
by Sirona inwhen a jw tells you christmas is pagan, therefore you shouldnt celebrate it, you can refer them to this article.
it is discussing wallpaper and other home decorations and what sorts are acceptable.. *** g76 12/22 14 are they idolatrous decorations?
so the christian needs to be primarily concerned about what?

I posted this gem a while back. I know that it is old, but I found it curious that in the "old light" or whatever they call it, that they saw nothing wrong with celebrating the holidays.
1904 "Even though Christmas is not the real anniversary of our Lord's birth, but more properly the annunciation day or the date of his human begetting (Luke 1:28), nevertheless, since the celebration of our Lord's birth is not a matter of divine appointment or injunction, but merely a tribute of respect to him, it is not necessary for us to quibble particularly about the date. We may as well join with the civilized world in celebrating the grand event on the day which the majority celebrate - "Christmas day."" (Watchtower, Dec. 1, 1904, p364)
I guess they now see a reason to quibble

Merry Christmas and God bless you Kelsie.
I understand you must have made a hard choice for you and your family, but it sounds like you have found the true God, and the wonders that come with serving him in true love. I hope your walk continues to grow and that God continues to reveal himself to you, which I am sure he will.
