Polytheism - Jehovah has same status as other gods
by Sirona inwho here is polytheistic?
is jehovah just another god?
is he on a par with osiris / pan / cernunnos / whoever?.

So what's the difference between "Jehovah" and the likes of Thor, Onedin, Mars and all the other mythic Greek/Roman gods?
(p.s. sorry if anyone gets offended by that............)

The WT on witchcraft
by figureheaduk infelt a little bored earlier so i decided to take a trip over to the wt's badly researched propaganda official site, when i stumbled upon this little gem concerning the wiccan faith:.
http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/2000/4/1/article_02.htm.
it's the usual waffle from the (old) boys in brooklyn about paganism is worshipping satan, only the bible (and by implication that the wt) is the absolute "truth" blah, blah, blah.

It's the usual waffle from the (old) boys in brooklyn about paganism is worshipping satan, only the bible (and by implication that the WT) is the absolute "truth" blah, blah, blah. But the following quote stood out at me:
"Jehovah gave these laws to his people because he loved them and did not want them to become enslaved by fear and superstition"
Hang on a minute, isn't this supposed to be the same god whose "organization" is using fear of being wiped out at armageddon to control it's members? It seems to me that when the WT talks about other faiths, they are quite happy (and quick) to talk about fear, opression and false teachings that are apparently involved. However, when talking about themselves the WT conveniently excludes any mention of fear, opression and false teachings (1975 etc. anyone?) that it has inflicted/continues to inflict on it's followers.
Just my thoughts at the moment, and in the fine tradition of free speech, there's no need to agree with me. Be warned though, I am wearing my asbestos flame-retardent suit........

Do elders feel trapped once appointed?
by JH inwhen you become an elder, it's for life.
that's scary, because who wants all that responsibility?.
do you think that brothers with lots of responsibilities envy those that don't have any?.

Those with none (but then who am I to say?)

Any Good People left in the Organization
by jst2laws inin another thread islandwoman said:my point is, should we now believe that all the "good" ones are out and there is no possibility that others may still exist?
to me it does not make sense to believe that.
personally, i know that there are still fine brothers there but that is my personal experience not worth much on a discussion board so reason must be applied, imo.. .

Well, as many of you may know well......
My girlfriend is an ex member of the borg who wants to go back and get baptised between 9/11 and "armageddon" (her view being that 9/11 and the recent Iraq conflict are the start of things to come). She has a kind, friendly personality that reminds of the reason why i fell in love with her a few years ago.
But basically, she is a good person, and so are the members of her family that are still JW.
It is those who are leading the watchtower and falsely prophecize under "god's" name that are beneath my contempt. If only the 6 million or so could open up their eyes and realize that it is money, power, and hatred of non jws etc that is involved and nothing else........

Is heavy metal demonized? YOUR vote counts!
by czarofmischief inhyah!.
so, since i left the borg, i've been exploring all kinds a cool stuff that i wasn't allowed to do.
rated r movies, blood sausages, rap music, wearing my hat backwards, patriotism, sex.. so, you know how the society and other fundies are always saying that heavy metal is the tool of the devil?

(in best Hannibal Lecter voice) "No no no no!"
Of course, those who
shepherdcontrol the flock would write off anything that does not fit in with their narrow-minded view of things as "evil", "demonic" and "satanic"Of course, when it comes things like teen sucides and the columbine tragedy a few years back, people are always ready to scapegoat certain artists as the cause, rather than the real roots of the problem (such as social alienation, family troubles, the easy access of guns etc)
Has anyone here heared the new Marilyn Manson album ("Golden age of the grotesque")? I bought it on sunday, and it's all I've listened to the past few days. Songs like "This is the new s**t", "Kaboom-Kaboom", "Doll dugga buzz buzz ziggety zag" and most of all, "Vodevil" have made me pick up my guitar again........

Facial Hair
by nonjwalltheway inwhy aren't jw's supposed to have facial hair unless it is a nicely trimmed mustache?
if jw's are supposed to follow the way of jesus why can't they have facial hair.
i know there is no biblical protocall denying people the option to grow beards.

"After shampooing your hair, rinse it thoroughly"
No s**t Sherlock! And there I was, after 23 years on this planet, wondering how the hell I'd be able to get the shampoo out of my hair every time I took a shower.
Next month - "Ass wiping - the theocratic way"
Honestly, do the dubs really need to have Brooklyn tell them how to wash their hair? Does the WT writing department have it's own squad of specialized writers for this kind of thing? (you know, stating-the-bleeding-obvious department or whatever...)

Is Kim Howells living in the same Great Britain as me? Given that the weather (usually) sucks, everything's way too expensive and there's always the dissapointment of finding out that not everyone here lives in a castle, I can only wish Mr Howells all the best in convincing American tourists (or any other tourists for that matter) that Britain should be top of the list when it comes to choosing a holiday in Europe

PS Mr. Cruise seemed happy enough flying his F-14 Tomcat in "Top Gun" didn't he?
