For me it would be like someone else already stated. Social interaction with people who understand where your life was, has been and what you may be going through in life now. Plus the possibility to meet new friends.
Distance isn't an issue.
i just wanted to get a general consensus of what are the motivations to attend an ex-jw meet up.
if you've already attended one before, what motivated you the first time or each successive time?
if you've never attended an ex-jw meet up before what do you think could motivate you to attend one?.

it would appear that none of the caterpillars or locusts consumed in the article "edible insectsa meal we will not forget" were properly bled before eating.. .
.
Whatever.
Thanks to Bear Grylls I've learned to survive eating the most vile things imaginable and drinking urine in the worlds most desolate spots.
lets's go!!.

so i just broke up with my jw boyfriend of over two years, nearly three.
when i met him he was disfellowshipped and i didn't find out he was a jehovah's witness unitl 4 months into the relationship.
six month into he was reinstated with the caution of getting rid of me, but he didnt.
Stealth hit the nail on the head.
He was just using you. Gets to have all the sex he wants. No one knows...then......when he's done having fun,go back and ask forgiveness.
My ex did the same thing. Got DF'ed for having sex with one ex of hers. While DF'd when out, partied, clubbed, met a non-JW guy and married him. Now.....she's had all her fun and she's reinstated and everything is cool. WTF ????????
I've seen people do this so many times............
They have their cake and eat it too.
my father in law's sow has been a pioneer for what...twenty plus years now?
she has yet to see any of her studies progress to baptism.
i know this is an excellent thing but to jw's you would think it would be tragic.
This makes me think of my daays of Regualr Pioneering. Working the same streets and neighborhoods with nary an answer at the door.
The brother I would work with would say, ' Chuck....this is a pretty nice house. But they're not home because they have to pay the bills."
Looking back we looked pretty stupid. At least they had the sense to go out and make a living. Not knock on doors all day.
since my spouse is an active elder, i accompany him to sads, cas and das, at least for the time being.
anyway, i thought i'd share some of the more odd/disturbing bits from the latest "sanctify god's name" ca.
there wasn't anything particularly new but the tone toward porn, higher ed, bad assoc, "habitual" murmuring and harmful gossip is definitely hardening, as are the cautions against social networking.

Agree with others on here about being responsible.
I stopped for gas. I saw the guy 'hanging out' at the ice machine next to the store and never thought twice about it. Seen people do it before.
Well in the few minutes I had my head off in the clouds day dreaming, he made his way from the machine, between the pumps with his gun in my face. He told me to 'give it up' and I didn't need a translator to know what that meant. I complied and reached into my pants to hand over my wallet like I was asked.......and he pulled the trigger.
I was luckly. It jammed, and he got mad and hit me in the head with it. I was lucky because I went home that night. With a big a%$# knot on my head, but I went home. My hands were shaking to bad to make the call myself and the clerk did it for me.
They showed up about 12-15minutes later. I'm not mad at them. They're already short of people. But if in the same position again thats a long ass time to put my life in danger.
Does it mean I'm paranoid ? No,but if none of you have ever had someone take action to take your life, then don't judge others who have.
And I got my CHL ASAP after that too.

No. But like Blind_of_lies, I carried a glock23 .40 in my car towards the end. It'd with me at all times. It would be in my car at the KH and like the OP, I was sure I'd be DF'd if it were found on my person......... on their property
I had been robbed at a gas station and the guys gun jammed on him. This was after i complied to give him my wallet.
I then went to the nearest gandermountain and purchased my current pistol. The houston area has turned into the wild wild west. Don't get me wrong....nice city, but IMO any citizen in the city and surrounding areas would do well to be armed.
Nowadays two pairs of knuckles sadly may not save you. Especially in the 5-10 minutes it takes the police to get to you if you're being robbed at gunpoint.
Now I keep it with me like my wallet or ID. Bad people are always looking for a victim. I don't want to be one.
