Terrence Howard isn't who he says he is. On his rise to fame (not fully famous yet), he lied about his age and was involved with my underage close friend. My friend later discovered he has a wife, and was sleeping with other women.

I find it hard to believe that Terrence Howard isn't awake.
by Island Man infor those who don't know, terrence howard is an actor who has had some exposure to "the truth" and has spoken positively about the jw religion in a past interview saying he would become a jw if he could.. i've started watching wayward pines where terrence howard stars as the town sheriff.
there are some striking cult parallels between the show and some facets of jw cult culture.
~ people who try to leave wayward pines are subject to punishment.

The WTS clearly does enough research to educate themselves on many topics, yet they like to cherry pick the advice they give to it's rank and file members as long as it benefits the higher ups. For instance, anyone with half a brain and especially additional research scratching the surface is aware a perpetrator isn't going to run off in fear once the victim yells "Stop" let alone a small child saying "Stop I'm going to tell on you". With a response like that, many times a perpetrator will threaten to harm the child's family if the child tells and continues the abuse regardless. Side note: why wasn't the fictitious monster a JW in a suit carrying WT magazines?!
Another observation that was made is that the response of the child is the same way a woman should respond according to the WT, otherwise she is at fault if she doesn't scream--here's the publication: http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/quotes/rape-fornication.php. Are they going to question whether or not the child screamed or ran to get away and if not, they sinned? I can picture an abuse survivor still trapped in the cult feeling a sense of guilt and further shame after watching that segment thinking it was their fault when in fact, many if not most victims literally shut down on a physical level when or as the abuse occurs since it's so traumatizing for their psyche to take. The higher ups of the WTS are aware of this, yet advice they dish out to benefit and cover themselves legally instead is disgusting.
As for the meeting that takes place with elders, the pedophile and the victim all together in the same room while the victim is forced to go into details of the abuse then forced to keep quiet and not warn other parents as it would be "slander" due to the pedophile denying it and an obvious lack of two witnesses, it is reported by many abuse survivors that the lack of believing them with what occurred was more damaging then the abuse itself. Take the WTS and it's awful practices, and push the button to a hundred on this issue. They rinse wash and repeat the victimization.

Nittygritty, "your hero" exactly what and who are you trying to defend? Are you possibly a pedophile yourself taking sides with criminals? It's pretty disgusting what you stated, and I'm glad as hell I'm not in the same group you associate with.
The biggest and most powerful step a sexual abuse survivor can take, is stepping forward and vocalizing what occurred. Bringing awareness. The most damaging and re-victimizing act is silencing the victim as the destructive mind control cult WTS does to their members.
Place yourself in the shoes of the victim. Imagine being raped by a trusted member of "Gods chosen ones", then going through a re-victimizing process of sitting down with a few clueless ego maniacs as many of the elders are, along with the creep who raped you as a child and having to relay the whole experience in detail only for the creep to deny it, and you, the victim silenced or else. So you go through your whole life with sudden random flashbacks of being raped, flashbacks combined with panic attacks, fear, guilt, shame and feeling completely alone in the world. You can be on your way to work and have a sudden flashback, at work, at the grocery store... Every part of your life is affected. Would money be your biggest desire/priority or would a sense of normalcy and peace be your biggest desire?
Candice created a domino effect for other survivors to come forward eventually. Your lack of compassion and using money as a weapon against her speaks volumes in your ignorance and overall character.

Zeb, I can see why many of you feel they are unhealthy. Chronic suppressed emotions and trauma (being in a mind control cult is trauma) will manifest in our body as dis-ease eventually if not dealt with. Mind/Body go hand and hand. They are not separate.
I have that book by the way. I was not too crazy about it as the message the author was relaying is universal. Yet, he was heavily marketing his book every few pages which annoyed me. Give it a shot regardless and see what you think.
I highly do recommend the following two books:

"Scared Sick: The Role of Childhood Trauma in Adult Disease" by Meredith S. Wiley

It was interesting as I could tell by her facial expressions and eyes that she was disturbed, yet struggling to make sense out of it all, so she'd eventually revert back to stating I was mistaking them for other religions.
I recall her expressing they are good people wanting to carry out God's will and I'd reassure her that many of them have good intentions, yet kept taking it back to the leaders.
What's a shame is that she's from the old country, elderly, and doesn't know how to use a computer, let alone read in English which narrows it down and keeps people like her stuck in... Perhaps that could be why many of the older members are stuck in?
I'd like to print out copies of valuable information and carry them in my car in case I ever have a run in like that again. So if anyone could direct me towards printable pamphlet type info, I'd appreciate it.

I was walking in an empty area of a main street recently when I noticed an elderly woman with stacks of magazines headed towards my direction looking as though she's on a mission. She drew closer to me, and made eye contact. Then it hit me - she's a Watchtower member. At that moment she was about stop me and hand over a magazine, when I said in our native language "Are you a Jehovah Witness". She responded by saying, "Oh you're from my country... YES, yes, I'm a Jehovah's Witness, how do you know?".
Who wouldn't know? The two main well known cults handing out destructive mind control cult publications are Jehovah's Witness's and Scientologist (not sure if they still do).
I was compelled to talk to this friendly elderly lady for a little bit and pass on information that would hopefully sink in. I'm generally pretty tuned into people/vibes and could sense she was a good person. I had this urge of compassion, instead of anger towards her for being on board with a dangerous cult that condones harmful sexual abuse among children and has destroyed their adult lives. I wanted to give her a hug, and protect her. I quickly realized everything confirmed here on this board.
Our conversation went along like this:
Me: Well, I knew you're a JW because of the magazines. Plus, the man I've been involved with was raised one
Her: Oh you're married to him!
Me: No we're not married. He was raised a JW, parents are JW, father an elder at one point. He was sexually abused by a JW man as a child who's still in good standing
Her: What a disgusting person. Good thing he's kicked out
Me: He's still in good standing actually. Has never been kicked out due to the crime he committed and my SO was threatened for slander if he warned other parents. In fact, are you aware of the 2 Witness policy? (I explained it all to her as she wasn't aware)
Her: No you must be talking about another religion. Jehovah's people don't do such things.
Me: I'm talking about Jehovah's Witnesses. I'm aware there are many kind, good hearted people in the organization such as yourself. It is people like you who don't realize the reality of what's taking place by the leaders who run everything. Yet, there are many awful things taking place. Systematic sexual abuse cases, money problems, misquoted and taken out of context information relayed to it's members such as yourself, along with a whole foundation including of false prophesies.
Her: Yes, they're in New York. You must be mistaking Jehovah's people for other religions. Other religions have that happen not us.
Me: I know it's hard to believe, especially when all you see is a certain image you're use to. There are two sides to a coin, my SO was horribly abused sexually and has suffered a life long battle emotionally because of it. His case isn't isolated. There are many many cases. Please look it up.
(She mentioned how horrible and disgusting that was while showing compassion and sympathy, then quickly reverting back to being in denial that such things in the organization would occur)
Me: When did you become a JW? Do you have children, are they JW's?
Her: 16 years ago. Yes, I have children, and grandchildren (I could tell they were her joy). They are not JW's.
Me: So how would you know about your religion's foundation if you became one 16 years ago, and your leaders only allow you to research information they tell you to?
Her: They aren't true. They're made to stir people away from Jehovah.
(She then opens up the magazine and excitingly points to an article which was in my native language which I can't read. She explained the "end times". I noticed she was carrying about 15-20 magazines in her hand and a wallet. I'm Agnostic, yet found it interesting and confirming she wasn't carrying a Bible).
Me: You said your faith is based on the Bible, how come you don't have a Bible on you?
Her: The magazines are created to make it easier for anyone to understand the Bible. I can't carry and pass out a bunch of Bibles, the magazines are easier to pass.
Me: When you get home, read Deuteronomy 18-22 (told her what it's about).
Her: Yes you know about that!! How do you know so much? That's a warning against Christendom.
Me: Actually, the leaders of your organization have predicted numerous false prophesies. Read Deuteronomy 18-22 when you get home, then have your children look up old magazines on the internet. It'll confirm what I'm trying to relay to you.
Her: It's false information to stir people away (repeats it again).
Me: They're copies of the same publication you are holding from the past. You will be able to tell if it's false or not, besides, don't you think the men in New York who lead all of this would be able to legally stop it somehow if it was slander?
Her: (ponders and nods her head)
Me: I 'd love to stand here and talk to you more, but I have to go to school
Her: Oh what are you studying?
(I mentioned it and her eyes lit up a bit)
Me: Have a lovely day and I wish you all the best
Her: You're a good kid. Have a nice day
It was interesting to observe her pondering, yet repeatedly slipping back into denial over what the cult is capable of. How would you suggest people who were never JW's handle interactions with JW's? I was probably feeding her indoctrination of "worldly people being misled".

Why I remain one of Jehovah's Witnesses
by Brother Jeramy inallow me to begin with a clarification: when i say i am one of jehovah's witnesses, i don't mean that i am an advocate of the watchtower society or a devotee of some of its more controversial false teachings.
i mean that i am a christian, a disciple of jesus christ dedicated to jehovah god, and who remains in union with my brothers and sisters who make up the family of faith that globally refers to itself as jehovah's witnesses.
some totally understand the distinction between the family of brothers and sisters and the corporate organization known as the watchtower society (wts).

But I know if someone truly "knew" in their own heart and are at peace with leaving they would not be here trying to hate on someone else s views
I'd like to redirect that to the Watch Tower Society/Jehovah's Witnesses. If you truly know in your heart of hearts and are at peace with your belief, their wouldn't be a need to "hate" on other people's views.
Such examples would be unlovingly shunning former members and treating them as do they're dead, labeling them as "mentally diseased apostates", and labeling, harassing and trying to convert "worldly" people with beliefs they are completely happy and content with.

This reminds me of a Scientology documentary I saw on YouTube (not the well known one that recently came out). I was astonished to hear some of the members of Scientology leaving the dangerous mind control cult due to the corruption, yet still having faith in the religion and it's teachings. I thought to myself - how in the world do you still believe in the teachings that originate from a foundation based on corruption, based on men?
I'd like to pass on the same question to you Jeramy - how in the world do you believe in teachings that originated from a foundation of delusion that's snowballed into a mountain of delusion? The foundation is the problem itself, it stems from men. So what is it that makes you believe men who've screwed you upside down?
You remind me of the former Scientologist.
I'd also like to add, I am not a Jehovah's Witness, have never been. I've noticed this a few times in my short time here on this board where former members are labeled as "bitter" or "mentally diseased" for leaving and expressing their anguish they've experienced. Why the label? Why ridicule their emotions they have every right to feel after going through one of the most devastating things a person can experience - awakening and realizing their whole life was a lie controlled and led by corrupt men? Of course, they will be filled with intense emotions. It's a natural grieving process, challenging and painful to overcome. Anyone who's awakened and has courage to face themselves and walk away from such darkness, I commend them.

Richard Ashe Court Deposition - " Let elders handle child abuse- don't talk about it "
by flipper inas some of you know i was given pdf files of much of the conti and lopez child abuse court cases and asked from a friend to peruse through it and post some excerpts on the board here that may have been missed or not addressed in the pbs newshour report or the abc news nightline report.
so after going through this richard ashe testimony i feel i found something quite interesting that exposes the real attitudes of the wt society leaders towards child abuse and the attitudes wt leaders put into it's appointed men's minds as well.
the viewpoint that richard ashe displays is repeated in elders throughout thousands of jw congregations on this planet.
