Pagan Origins

why are jw's not allowed to do certain things because they have "pagan origins", yet the very same roof over their head and the the food they place into their mouth is purchased through money with pagan origins on it?

pagan symbolism is all over money.

so if the wt leaders are so against paganism, why are they insisting "jehovah's" earthly organization needs pagan money to sustain itself, yet disfellowshipping members if they cross the line into paganism?.

I understand what each of you have stated, especially what you mentioned jhine regarding the cult tactics used to create separation.

However, between a wedding ring and money stamped with the occult symbol of the pyramid with the all seeing eye, I'd say money is far more "Pagan" then a wedding ring or other things they place into their forbidden category.

What's most distasteful, ironic and contradicting is how they tell their members to have no part of the world, yet beg for money which has symbolism that's associated with "false worship" in order to expand "Jehovah's organization". Why would Jehovah need help from Satan in order to grow his earthly organization?

Everyone. It's a misconception to "spare them". The cult personality is the one who's content being in. Freedom is the real person's birthright. Going through the progression of pain is the same as informing a spouse they are being cheating on by their partner, or the withdrawal process in comparison to a person coming off drugs. Whether or not the process will be painful, the highest good for anyone involved in this cult or any other, regardless of age, is to know the truth about the lie.

What’s the deal with all the Smart-Educated JWs?

we talk a lot about most jws being uneducated, uninformed, and that they lack critical thinking skills, but in my area there is a lot of jws that went to the university, medical school, law school, and came back to the organization.

in my circuit, that i know of, we had two electrical engineers, one computer engineer with a ph.d. eight teachers with a bachelors degree and three of those with a masters in education.

we had two medical doctors, one was a pediatrician who closed his business about 3 years ago and went to bethel.

Education doesn't seem to matter. Take Scientology and Mormons, they are highly educated for the most part with careers in higher fields yet they are still trapped in a destructive mind control cult.

if jws did the following, i believe they would grow exponentially and become one of the largest 'religions' on earth : .

1. no more dfing or shunning......its up to your conscience who you like or don't like.

in the same way if i was catholic living in ireland, i wouldn't hang out with my neighbor if she was a drunk fornicator, just had an abortion, had a taliban boyfriend and also supported liverpool soccer club.

where shall we go

yesterday i read something that hurt my heart.

at a talk given by a brother lyman swingle ( i apologize if i am stepping out of line by using this) he said "that if you leave the jw ( i find it difficult to refer to it as the truth now days) you may as well go jump off a bridge".

this i think is disgraceful talk to say to any body let alone an audience in which children are present.

WT is similar to pedophiles on many levels, along with abusive partners who tell their partner they won't be wanted by anyone else besides them.

i haven't included any things i would consider "apostate" specifics about doctrines, or major scandals.

it's just a general layout of the path i took to becoming an exjw.

I think it comes down to intuition (gut instinct - internal compass) that sends out signals which is denied by lower levels of the mind (programming). Our internal compass always carries the truth. A lot of us have learned not to trust it, and even more so with heavier programming.

I'm glad you're out.

Asking Her Out - Follow Up - Advice?

soooo..... going to ask that wonderful lady for her phone number tonight as per everyone's advice... first time i will ever be doing that with a non jw girl...erm...woman.

my dear female friends, what are some genuine questions i can pose to get a conversation rolling and what are some other questions/things i can ask/say to restart a stalled conversation?

i'm very very shy when talking to new people... especially someone i'm interested in, and have some social anxiety.

Humor, if you're a natural at it. It get's us most of the time.

Confidence, in who you are even if you're shy. Don't mistake this with arrogance.

Look at her in the eyes, be present, get to know her. When you do this, your anxiety will melt away and you'll be genuine.

Don't feel insecure just because you have the JW past, if chemistry is there it won't matter. We all have pasts.

Avoid over pleasing. See her as your equal. Have fun, be attentive. If it doesn't work out in this stage, it comes down to chemistry ultimately imo.
