everyone is somehow connected to a celebrity, with that wondeful six degrees of separation.. for me, my aunt's(by marriage), first cousin is ally sheedy.. how are you related?
Not related to any biggies that I know of but lucky to have met more than my share...
Politicians mostly...Reagan, Bush Sr., Bush Jr. - Senators/Congressmen & the like.....
Met a few movie types who either hide in the hills in New England or have filmed movies here....Tom Selleck (the magnum PI guy), Robin Williams, Walter Mathaeu, Carol Burnett, Alan Alda...
C. Everett Koop...Lives down the Road....
Got backstage with Chicago and the Beach Boys twice in the same year....
All of the Presidential hopefulls campaign here in town every election and I LOVE POLITICS *LOL* and because of the Disability work that I do I get asked for my opinion once in awhile....not that anyone ever follows it...but I get to meet most of them so every 4 years is fun. *LOL*
My wife's aunt-in-law is the sister-in-law of StromThurmond....(Ancient US Senator)

after reading many posts on this site, it seems we all share the same types of fears.while witnesses, some were petrified to give a talk in the theocratic ministry school.
others were sick to their stomach to go out in door to door work.
if the elders said that they wanted to talk to you after the meeting, fear would set in throughout the whole night.
I'm a big ol' SAP....and the thought of anything happening to my family...(wife/son)....is the worst.

howdy ya'all:.
gotta get over this - i feel like i'm having a nervous breakdown most days.
parent told me she is unable to speak with me anymore (3 months ago), sends watchtowers to me & hub.
Mary,
DA and DF are viewed the same (even though their Official page contradicts itself on the issue)...only the fade-aways seem to have found a "loophole" for the moment. I DA'd and I am shunned...in fact I am told that because I DA'd I am WORSE than a "wrongdoer" since I willingly turned my back on the Org.
And the August 2002 KM covered DF & DA'd relatives, not living in the same house, and Dubs were told the "quit mixing in company with them". Ssoooo...we're shunned again. *L*

shakita,
It may sound more impressive than it really is. I've been lucky...lucky to have a great wife and son and a good, secure job with the Police Department. The ADA thing is cool too...but really not hard work considering I use a wheelchair so most of what I work with just comes natural. *LOL*

Hello and welcome....
I can relate to some extent. I left (DA's) in the late 80's but back then the rule was you could associate with family but no "spiritual talk". Now since August I'm strictly shunned but they still seem to contact me when its convenient. I don't really have to worry about anyone calling on me to return me to the fold though...I've made it pretty clear that I'm not interested and to be honest, the elders don't want me back anyway. *LOL*
Not sure where you are...I'm in NH...East Coast USA....happy to offer whatever support/listening ear that I can offer.

Better late than never.....
I have too many jobs...
My best job is - Husband (12 years) - Father (4 year old son)
Earn a living as a - E911 Communication Officer (21 years) - Police, Fire, EMS - 15 Towns, 45 Agencies, 900 sq miles
Own a small Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance Consulting Firm - Great work, get to travel all over the country, meet people I'd never meet otherwise...but doesn't pay the bills reliably enough to quit my day job.
Pastor - Rewarding, fulfilling...
Past jobs: Elected Politician, Radio Disc Jockey, Retail Sales

els,
That is my thinking exactly *LOL* If they are shunning me anyway then who cares and sending little "points of light" seems to make me feel better.
My father was an Elder for years and we often went to Granville for him to give sunday talks, I'm sure we must have met at some point. Lets see...I had a bad haircut...awful polyester suits...bookbag as big as a UPS Truck...just what every young JW gal was looking for ! *LOL*
I was in from 69 - 89...not real active in the 80's though. We're certainly in the same age group....I'll bet I followed you around the assemblies as a hormonally charged teenager. *LOL* It would be fun to chat a bit and see what we can both remember from the old days.
