  First off I'm glad that you were able to have the surgery and help with the pain. I'd miss a quality debate partner like you.

  You make my point exactly when you say that they make those comments because they have not lived my life.

  My frustration is that I have not lived as a woman or an african American or as a person who is gay...and it would be unacceptable for me to make generalized, stereotypical, hurtful comments about their lives. "I'd rather be dead than gay,black,female,old,catholic"

  Why then can people not understand that they should treat people with disabilities the same. The old saying (slightly modified)...."Roll a mile in my wheelchair" before you say something....

  To think it would be better to be dead...themselves even...than to live a life like mine....

  I have been disabled all my life and, respectfully, I understand that people can be uncomfortable around people with disabilities. I teach disability awareness for corporations all over the country to try to help people feel more comfortable.

  My point is that for whatever reason it is considered acceptable in society to place generalization and stereotypes on folks with disabilities. To take a situation that most people know nothing about and decide that it is a less than acceptable life or a fate worse than death to have to live that way.

  As I mentioned I was commenting on one person's post and not on the whole Schiavo case but it is just a short walk from justifying "mercifully ending" this vegetative woman to expanding that thinking to other situations as has already been done in the past.

  whew...LOL....I stopped posting to political threads to avoid ranting and raving....maybe I'll just welcome new people and leave it at that from now on. LOL

  i took evelyne a copy of everyones wonderful thoughts... she cried more than once.

  so, she saw the specialist just after lunch time.

  it looks like, after 3 liters of iv, she has gone from 4.7 to 14!

  Bryan,

  Glad to hear things are doing okay. My wife did 16 weeks of bedrest prior to our son being born, as nice as we think it might sound it was so increadibly hard.

  You and the family remain in our thoughts and we remain here if you need anything.

  I know that and that is why I qualified my post...it is not just about Terri.

  My point is that it is okay in society to make these general types of comments and think this way.

  "They can't go for a walk...they have no real life." "They can't make love....they have no real life."

  "They can't drive a car..they have no real life." "They are a burden on their family.they have no real life."

  "They are not like me...they have no real life." "They are difficult to look at...they have no real life."

  Am I being overly sensitive, Maybe. Am I giving extreme examples, Maybe.

  My point is that a person can only hear that they are less valuable than all the "normal people" for so long before it wears thin. I know people probably don't mean to be hurtful but the truth is....thinking and comments like that are wrong.

  What if you continually heard people say..."I'd rather die than bleed for 5 or 6 days a month", or "I'd rather be dead than be gay,black,asian...whatever" or "I'd ask someone to kill me if I ever turned 70" ?

  None of those comments would be appropriate and neither should generalized comments about people who are different in a physical, mental or developmental way.

  ok...I said I wasn't going to go on and on again....I apologize.

  The poor thing just sits there. Can't make love, go for a drive, go for a walk outside, eat whatever she wants besides hospital food.

  She really has no life.

  Please...PLEASE don't make me bore everyone else on this thread with another of my rants...

  I am a person with a disability....use a wheelchair...just sit here.....can make love, but not without pain...can drive when I have a vehicle with a lift to get my chair in and out....certainly can't go for a walk outside...

  What is the measure of a "normal life" ? Am I less of a person for not being able to look like everyone else or do the things that others do ?

  Should Terri be starved to death ? I don't know. There are lots of people in nursing homes all over the country..the world....that are very low function..."vegetative" -- such a pretty, humanizing term. My post responding to these comments is NOT about Terri...it is about how people can think like this, in these general terms about someone who is different.

  I hear it all the time.... "I could never live like you"...."I'd rather die than be stuck in a wheelchair"... They say it...right there in front of me, like I can't hear them...or like it doesn't make me feel like total sh*t that someone thinks that my life is so terrible that they would rather be DEAD than be me.

  I'm going to quit now before i get more frustrated...

  Didn't Go to the Memorial

  i thought about going to see how many of the old pub.

  i would know at the memorial.

  when the time came to get ready to go i had this feeling of anxiety so i just kept watching tv.

  I called my parents...told them I hoped they enjoyed their annual "cracker pass" and asked them (as was mentioned in a post earlier this week) to ask themselves as they sat there if Jesus would have shunned his family.

  I spent an evening filled with love and laughter with my wife and children who do not shun me.

  just reading a few of the da'd letters, it would just be so cool if they had to read them out loud when they announced it!!!!!!!

  LOL Great idea...

  When I left there was no JWD and very little if any internet info available...at least not to me. Now that I know the truth about the org...I'd like to rewrite my DA letter....sort of a follow up.

  i've noticed there are a lot of jw's in good standing on here these days... i know its a small sample but it seems promising.. any current circuit overseers/district overseers post on here, that would be crazy.

  I would have prefered to have been handling the women rather than the mics....

  I think the whole mic duty is very phalic anyway....young hormone riddled males at the hall presenting a long pole toward the mouths of the audience....have to admit a few "impure thoughts" on especially frustrated nights when certain sisters my age answered. LOL Guess that makes me a perv huh ? LOL Maybe this should be in the fantasies about the KH thread LOL.

  I'm a "used to be" too...when I was in I did Mics, Attendant, Literature, Talks, Reading, Prayer...the lot. Loved working at assemblies to get out of sitting through the BS.
  

  I used to be "in charge" of the sound system so I called myself a "Mini-Stereo Servant"...they never really saw the humor. LOL

  Now I just sit in the recliner in my underwear eating cheetos and ....handle the mic. LOL
