A dancing robot is great and all...but this is actually useful....A whellchair that balances on two wheels to bring the user to standing position and it even climbs stairs....thats me in the pics.

Cheap dubs no wheelchair ramp for sister

I do ADA work for a living and Churches are exempt under the Americans with Disabilities Act.Also just a quick note on the ramp for the woman in the article...in order for a ramp to be usable and meet code it needs to be 1 foot long for each inch of vertical rise. Looking at the picture she had 5 or 6 good sized steps so even if they were only 5 inches of rise each the ramp would need to be 25 or 30 feet long.
Speaking as someone who goes all over the US doing ADA work it amazes me that the dubs are not more accessible. Even though churches are not covered by the law nearly ever church we see is either accessible now or planning to become accessible when they have the $$.

Execution in United States Are You For It?
by jayhawk1 infrom the ap.... raleigh, n.c. - a man who killed his wife and father-in-law pinned his hopes on last-minute intervention from the governor or the courts as he awaited lethal injection early friday in the nation's 1,000th execution since capital punishment resumed in 1977. kenneth lee boyd, set to die at 2 a.m., spent the day receiving visitors, including two sons who watched him gun down their mother and grandfather in 1988. .
my questions are; are you for or against the death penalty?
what was your opinion of the death penalty as a jehovah's witness?.

The only issue I have with the death penelty is that it takes too damn long to kill them. Convict them. Maybe one shot at an appeal if there was something messed up with the trial, and then be done with it.
One more thing. Allow the victims families to pull the switch, if they wish. We must be separated at birth. LOL um......what he said !

Mom in Hosp - Refusing Blood
by rwagoner inmy mom is a dialysis patient and has had a couple of heart attacks.
she is 65 or so...never celebrated a birthday so no real clue.... she went into the hospital yesterday with a bleeding ulcer...they thought they sealed it all up but her blood count continues to drop.
due to her dialysis she can only get iv's in one arm and it is difficult to find a good vein.

Just an update - they have sent my mom home...basically to die.
I spoke with her Doctor and he said that if she would agree to a transfusion she'd be fine. Her blood count got so low with the GI Bleed that her hemoglobin count is probably unrecoverable...she is getting the meds mentioned here with her dialysis but he expects that she will pass long before her count has a chance to recover.
There is a chance, however small, for survival so we're keeping the faith but it does not appear to be very realistic.
The "friends" showed up at the hospital but saw me and turned tail and ran before they even saw her. I will say that a few people did stay who have known the family for years and did not spend the time preaching. The "Committee" showed up to make sure the Doctor had his marching orders and didnt try to save her. They tried to shake my hand which I of course refused...warning them that it would be spit covered if they didn't get it away from me quickly.
On one note...she has agreed to a memorial service at the funeral home rather than the kh...but wants a "brother" to do the prayer. I made it clear to the dubs that a prayer was just that...a prayer...not a chance to make a hidden recruitement sermon or to slam the unbelievers and that I would be following up with my own comments if they did anything stupid.
Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers...they do make a HUGE Difference.

Thanks again everyone -
Skully and others - I called mom this morning early and worked the info you gave me into the brief conversation...tried to make it sound like old news...like I knew what I was talking about...she was aware of some but not all of the options and asked how I knew...so I told her about the wonderful apostate family that I have that all care about her more than the "friends" at the KH. She actually asked for a copy of the info so I printed the post and all of your supportive comments and took it to her. It made her cry...maybe another little wedge in the door...
As of tonight the mystery bleeding has stopped...we'll see what happens next.
So thank you my friends...it means a great deal to me.

Thanks everyone so very much for all the support and the info. I will try to call her today (if she'll take my call) I dont think the "committee" knows yet...my dad is in his 70"s and is lucky if he remembers to call me with news. I am sure they have moles in the hospital though...
Thanks again !

It never ceases to amaze me how matter of factly and coldly they can put a publishing company before family...all the while asking you to respect THEIR beliefs, feelings and rules and yet totally discounting yours.
Your family here still cares...I dont always agree with them all....and hardly ever agree with others LOL But I know that they all care about me and can related to what I am going through and feeling... its a real nice feeling.

Hi all,
My mom is a dialysis patient and has had a couple of heart attacks. She is 65 or so...never celebrated a birthday so no real clue...
She went into the hospital yesterday with a bleeding ulcer...they thought they sealed it all up but her blood count continues to drop. Due to her dialysis she can only get IV's in one arm and it is difficult to find a good vein. She called tonight to remind me that I should not interfere with her care because they are having problems getting a decent IV for the plasma expanders...
Gee thanks mom...Hi son, I might die over a stupid leaking ulcer because my cult wont allow me get the transfusion I need...don't interfere, dont come visit...love you...hope I dont die but if I do dont show up at the hall and cause problems....
What the hell is wrong with these people....it just sucks...thanks for the vent...
