I TRULY cannot bring myself to look at the bound volumes on my bookshelf. I was ready to make a bonfire when someone suggested that I might be able to use them as references during the anti-Watchtower campaign.

An Ambiguous Statement

the borg's writing department have proven to be adept at putting a favorable spin on what they prepare for public dissemination.

you know how it goes, say one thing while doing another, such as when letters to boe "clarify" procedures as found in the watchtower magazine.. .

Well, I don't know, Ozzie. When I was "interested" I was informed by the study conductor and his wife that JWs don't vote at all. So, I was under no illusions as to what that statement meant.

Now, I'll vote for anyone who, as part of their manifesto, has taking charity status off Watchtower. And, as a bonus, for any party that professes to destroy Watchtower I'll canvass!

at the book study conversation turned to the importance of numbers and their symbolic use in bible texts.

the elder leading the study stated that he believed the number 7 was of such vital importance, that when the great crowd number 7,000,000 and the remnant 7000 the end will come.

Another Question for Those Against Capital Punishment

which is worse?

a convicted murderer getting executed or a convicted murderer being released after serving the minimum of a life sentence, 15 years?.

btw, before anyone even mentions the low recidivism rate of murderers, you must realize that that is only for those that have been caught.

How many people would still be against capital punishment if it were their small child that got taken off, then raped, then battered to death? While we sit in our homes and pontificate about the rights and wrongs of humanity it is all so easy to be judgemental against those who are pro capital punishment and, moreso, those that actually have the power to instigate it.

YES!, we're ALL concerned over an innocent person being executed - but that's not the issue here (and I apologise, Stinky, for not answering your question exactly - but, as expected, this thread threw up further points). Assuming a murderer is actually caught and that murder was not caused through some act of revenge (e.g. a man's daughter gets raped so he takes revenge) then I say CP is in order. I agree with Stinky totally. 15 years doesn't mean that. A murderer gets out in, say, 6 years and is free to live and virtually do whatever he/she likes while his/her victim is dead and the victim's family pays EVERY day for the rest of their lives!

There are far too many do-gooders around when it comes to this subject. To take an innocent person's life is the most heinous crime imaginable and the perpetrator must pay the ultimate penalty. Execution does not have to be done in a barbaric fashion. Lethal injection is given to animals by vets to put them out of their misery. I held my beloved German Shepherd in my arms while this method was performed and he died peacefully. That's what I'd ask be performed on a muderer - others wouldn't be so "kind".

Should we discount the book of Revelation?

considering that the apostle john wrote the book of revelation based on the visions that he saw while on the island of patmos, and since there was no second witness there to see what he saw, should we not consider the book of revelation in light of the wts requirement that there be 2 or more witnesses when an accusation is made?

he made accusations against and condemned religion, politics and commerce...where is his second witness?

This wonderful easy to read but engrossing work proves that the Bible is definitely not inspired and was never considered so until centuries after Christ's death. Once again, politics - and nothing but politics - is responsible for the growth of the Bible and the belief in it. Read here where the origin of "Believe or be damned" comes from!

I'm formerly a staunch believer in the Bible (Dub life ) but this book is truly enlightening. Suffice to say, I now concur with Stinky and Francois!!
