what a powerful quote!.
"if your absence doesn't affect them, then your presence never mattered.".

Jesus was demoted and jehober was promoted by Rutherford in order to make "his" personal little religion different for other so called Christian religions. He did this during the 30's as a way to stir the sh*t and get "his" personal little religion back in headlines by creating controversy. Contrarian-ism was "his" trademark. Rutherford (and now the magnificent 7) live(d) by the motto,
"If you can't dazzle them with your brilliance, baffle them with your bullsh*t".

in your personal experience, do you think that the wt attracts needy types of people?
over the years, my experience is that they do attract very needy, insecure, dysfunctional, types.
i had an acquaintance that i just basically cut off.
Those with nothing really going on in there life are attracted. Those that view life as an obligation rather than an opportunity are attracted. Those who desire a magical solution to their problems are attracted. Some, men especially, are attracted because they see an avenue to gain power and prominence. and nut cases that will join any religion or organization just because someone came to their home.

just a few observations from this morning.
.. this morning as i was trying to choke back the bile that kept wanting to come up during the wt study one comment in particular screamed cult.. towards the very end as comments were being made about "counseling" others with "gracious" words one of the uber-dub minstral-serpents made this comment, "we see in the last image that the brother is holding a bible as he counsels the other brother.
we look closely at the picture and we can know exactly what he is counseling the brother about.
"All the brothers are wearing suits except one. And he needed counsel that he should wear a suit jacket at the meetings."
I hope you were wearing your suit jacket when you were getting reamed for your "beard".
When the stupid beard thing comes up around me, I simply mention that they should take a look at the pictures of jesus in the wt publications. Then I politely mention that if we want to imitate jesus, we should definitely not be doing the (lol) 'cart' witnessing. Jesus would never just stand there and say nothing as people passed by.

i said that to my wife in a fit of anger.
Up until the the last 10 or so years (when the 7 goof balls that run the borg took over) jw's were simply a designer religion born out of the delusional minds of JFR and FF. The few other presidents in between simply perpetuated Rutherford's religion.

as a jehovah's witness:.
two things finally struck me:.
1. i was really in a grown up kindergarten and .
Nicely worded Terry!
This very subject is what led me (and others I'm sure) to ttatt. I was raised as a dub and served as a pioneer, MS, elder (PO) for over a combined period of 40 years. I worked hard over many decades to deliver hundreds of talks and meeting parts that presented certain jw doctrines and teachings as "absolute truth". I used the chains 'proof texts' to further convince the congregation and individuals of "the truth".
Then, in just a few WT articles, everything that I held as undeniable truth was changed by "new light". So, like others here, I realized that if "new light" completely changed what I had spent decades believing and teaching, I had wasted a lot of time teaching and believing a bunch of bulls**t. So sad!

i had a chance last weekend to talk with an elder i used to serve with.
a very kind hearted and understanding elder, always showing sympathy and concern for others, looking out for the little guy, the downtrodden and oppressed, even willing to stand up to uncaring company-men co's .
he was po way back then and became the cobe in the new re-0rg, until, that is, the gb came out with the age limit.
The 'older ones' that are still dubs and have been dubs since the 40's and 50's and are still here suffering from old age problems surely must be thinking "WTF"! I surely would be If I were still a dub but, eyeuse2badub.

just as i think my loathing for the jw cult has peaked, it goes higher and higher.
i wish this cult would just go away.
i wish my wife would just wake up.
Hey goingthru........
I'm in a similar situation at home. Also much like our friend Doc, I became very ill when I discovered ttatt. Today, after nearly 8 years of stepping away from the WT, i am very much at peace with my life and my wife. I attend some Sunday meetings with her so she won't have to go alone and some assemblies. No attending the CLAM, no longer go in service, participate in meetings, clean the kh, donate, etc. Very much a fringe member to keep peace.
I also use some of biblexaminer's strategy especially when we see the "cart" witnessing. I like to point out the 'do nothing' preaching that it must be embarrassing to stand and 'do nothing'. I often watch the monthly broadcast so I can question her on her opinion of how it went. I know that even she is embarrassed by some of the crap the gb throws out there. The "generation" timeline was laughable!

i can't recall the word that describes a group that keeps to itself like the witnesses do.
i thought it was "insular" but i don't think that's the one i'm looking for after reading the definition.
i remember an elder using the word "clannish" and that has the proper definition but it reminds me of a group of elves.
GULLIBLE!

i've been updating the links at my web site and i'm working on the gtjbrooklyn pages now.
what would you say are the several biggest changesin the jws organization/rules in the last five years or so?
The most notable change I've seen is the apathy that has invaded the borg. No more urgency. I hear more and more lifers sarcastically mentioning how we "should have been in the Paradise by now"!
The migration away from all religion has started and is especially noticeable among the 'cult' religions.
