as ridiculous as the bunker video was, a few things popped into my consciousness as i was riding the train today.
firstly, why did they go to all the expense and effort to not only create a bunker, but to furnish it like a living room complete with coffee table, armchair, shelves etc?
i mean, a bunker should be a bunker... boxes of tinned food, tools, medical supplies, emergency gear etc.
I remember distinctly after seeing this video at the RC whispering to my (still in) wife, "Why do the witnesses need to hide out in bunkers or basements? Doesn't jehober "protect" his loyal ones? I guess the ones in the bunker were not loyal enough."

most christian religions believe it will be a thousand-year period of peace.
jws, however, seem to believe in the resurrection and then life on paradise earth.
but do they believe in the millennium the way other christians do -- where the lion will lay down with the lamb [bzzzt...mandela effect correction] wolf will lay down with the lamb?
What ever the jw belief is today, it's subject to change tomorrow!

i would like to state publicly, on this forum, i no longer hold the views i had a year ago.. with much thought, research, study and logical examination i have come to a better understanding of my beliefs and where i stand on all these issues.. i'm very happy to announce i have returned to healthful teaching of the holy scriptures and i firmly believe that the governing body of jehovah's witnesses is the faithful slave.. sorry if i have contibuted to any kind of stumbling and know that if i can turn things around then there's hope for all who come to there sence.. phill4:6,7.

Rutherfraud was a lawyer first and the figure head leader of a religious cult second. As a lawyer, a litigator, he had a natural inclination to be adversarial and adversarial he was in every way. He was determined, once he gained control of the wtbts, to make it his OWN personal religion, which he pretty much did! Nearly everything that main stream christian religions did, he did the opposite. He knew that controversy captures attention. He was the very definition of a charlatan! The sh*t that he and mad Freddy set in motion certainly had an adverse effect of the lives of many sincere people. Jim Jones on a larger scale!

Another fine description of what it was like to grow up a jw during the Vietnam war era. I went thru the same sh*t as you did, except I was a married man (I mean a married kid) lol. Damn near lost my wife do to her philandering while I was "locked up" for my 'firm convictions'.
I got the same drill from the congregation about how to handle myself in front of the draft board and eventually the US court. Of course the information they provided was "unofficial" and my own conscience had to be my guide! lol
I think that in California we got a different treatment after we got out of 'jail'. People out here are a lot more liberal than Texas from what I can discern so the stigma of being a 'draft dodger' was embraced much differently. Hope to meet you one day!

it was another world back then; another time and another place.. you had to have been there to have any sense of it--as a young, impressionable jehovah’s witness under the watchtower presidency of nathan h. knorr--social gatherings (backyard bbq’s, swimming parties) among the ‘friends’ consisted of having a great time at a get together or a picnic.

The more I read your postings, the more I realize that we have so much in common. I lived in southern California during the 60's and 70's. I wish we could have met up when you lived in Redondo Beach. I lived in Whittier, just a short drive down the 91 freeway. I spent a good deal of my 'non-jw' time surfing. Huntington Beach and south were my favorite spots. Surfed Manhattan Beach a few times. What brought you to southern California?

i have noticed, from reading posts on this and other related websites, what to me is an alarming practice taking place within the jw's.
and that is the baptism of kids.. on a recent discussion posted by pe ( video of the girl now forced to shun her sister) this child was baptised at 9 years old.
all of us who were baptised at a much older age know of the many questions one needs to give serious consideration and understanding of to become eligible for baptism, not to mention the two baptism questions asked before being dunked.. surely the organisation must know that children of such a young age are not mature enough to fully grasp the seriousness, demands and consequences of making such a decision.. another point; if jesus is the example to follow, then why did he only get baptised at age 30, and he was perfect!.
If kids are "qualified" be baptized at 8 or 9, why wouldn't they be "qualified" to be elders at 18 of 19? It's the same ridiculous reasoning isn't it?
As I used to argue when I was an elder (and refused to go over the "pre baptism" questions with kids), "Please, brothers, show me one example in the Scriptures where a 'young man or virgin' was baptized! The only references I can find were 'men and women' being baptized!"
I got a lot of heat for stance on baptizing kids!

We have a lot in common including our age, our jw past, and our non jw present. I did my 2 years time for 'draft evasion' also. However, I was married. My wife wavered a bit during my incarceration but we are still together (51 years). I'm sure it was very hard on her to be a beautiful 20 year old being 'hit on' everyday at work during the sexual revolution of the late 60's.
You tell a very beautiful and colorful story of yesteryear. It took me nearly 55 years to learn ttatt but it's never tooo late to start living.

Ah yes, Terry, the memories of growing up in cult culture! I was a teen in the middle and late 1960's in California. Your post rang a very familiar bell.
I wonder if I ever ran into you at parties in the LA area in the mid-late 60's. I was mostly in the Whittier, Huntington Beach area.
