Persecuted Christians
by IMHO inchristians are the single most widely persecuted religious group in the world today.
1. christian churches around the world have set apart the month of november to remember and pray for the persecuted church, through the international day of prayer for the persecuted church (idop).. 2. according to the u.s. department of state, christians in more than 60 countries face persecution from their governments or surrounding neighbors simply because of their belief in christ.. 3. with the exception of four official state-controlled churches in pyongyang, christians in north korea face the risk of detention in the prison camps, severe torture and, in some cases, execution for practicing their religious beliefs.
north koreans suspected of having contact with south korean or other foreign missionaries in china, and those caught in possession of a bible, have been known to be executed.. 4. in syria, christians are increasingly becoming the target of violent attacks.

BUT only the persecution of JW's is significant because they are the only true christians. Right?

Finished Crisis of Conscience Recently
by wallievase inwell i finally got around to finishing crisis of conscience.
2 things stood out to me most.. 1. the fact that the gb can question beliefs and noone else can.. 2. strangly the most disturbing fact- its a small one- but actually made the biggest impression on me out of the whole book-.
the fact that they agreed to send him a copy of his meeting tapes and then refused and admitted in writing that they lied.. obviously there was much more that i got from it and i do find franz situation unique in that he had a whole support system outside of the "truth" and most today including myself have nothing- if i leave my wife hates me, my family wont talk to me, etc- it doesnt provide any solution for that scenario.. any thoughts on the above points- let me know.

Ray's book C of C just supported what I had already concluded years prior to reading it. I loved every sentence of it, not only for it's insight, but also for it's lack of anomosity. ALL religions are man made.

Maybe the Jehovah of the OT would destroy eveyone except JW's at the big 'A', but the Jesus of the NT will temper him down and spare ALL the good people.

god-of-the-gaps. Should we or shouldn't we fiil in the gaps with God?
by KateWild inscience imo does not have all the answers.
when i discover gaps in science, it's easy for me, as a temporary measure to fill in the gaps with god.
i do this until i have learnt something new.. what about you?

Kate
Could it be that you, like most JW's, have always relied on the org to fill in the gaps? The org has always done that with their own WT opinions. The org has a long history of supplying answers or solutions to matters in which it has no real knowledge or expertise. So they guess and try to put a "bible" spin on it and find some unrelated scripture to support their blather. I use to buy it. But going forward;
I can live with questions that can't be answered; but I cannot live with answers that cannot be questioned!

I'm with you Blondie on how too, too often the org uses the OT to provide examples. Not a well planned out idea if one really looks at the examples cited. For example, paragraph 6 uses Josiah. He was probably a good person. BUT WOW! "Beginning at the tender age of eight,...." He was a child! Someone else was either making his decisions or heavily influencing his decisions. If one reads the Biblical account of Josiah in 2 Chron. 34 ,35, and 36 you will discover some very interesting facts about Josiah that WOULD NOT QUALIFY as a good example for a Christian today.
1) Chapter 34:1 says Josiah was 8 (a child) when he became King. That isn't very realistic for our time.
2) Chapter 34:3 says Josiah was "still a boy" in the eighth year of his reign. So he was 16 (8+8=16). BUT according to the Bible, "still a boy".
3) Chapter 34:1 and Chapter 35:24 tells us Josiah died at age 39. Why didn't Jehovah protect examplary Josiah from the Egyptians' arrows?
4) Chapter 36:1, 2 says his 23 year old son, Jehoahaz, began reigning in his place.
4) So Josiah was 39 when he died and his 23 years old son Jehoahaz takes over which means Josiah was about 16 when his son was born.
5) So 'evidently' Josiah was only 14 or 15 when he got married or as the Bible puts it, he was "still a boy". (Wonder how old his wife was.)
6) So is 14 or 15 a good age to get married if you are good examplary JW?

The hard part for me to swallow is the JW explannation that Jehovah would be so petty and hold a grudge for 6,000 years over this one act of disobedience. The JW theroy that Jehovah has allowed all the pain and suffering for the past 6,000 years to prove a point is sheer foolery.

Question about recent love bombing....
by mind blown infor more years then i'd like to count, one jw relative has never called to see how i was doing.
today she calls out of the blue, asks how i am, and if there's anything she can do for me.
as of late another jw relative has been a lot more communicative.

There are plenty of 'good JW's' that do not shun their df'ed loved ones. Most do it on the down low but still..........
