I'm sure that the bible's many mythological and wild stories are INSPIRING to many persons, the bible is not INSPIRED--at least not by some super human shy daddy!
And how I believed in all that bs--well it makes me wonder!

so i was reading the book of daniel, starting with chapter 4 (nebuchadnezzar's famous tree chopping/banding dream where the 7 times is introduced) but i noticed that when you don't cherry pick verses and just read straight thru - it really seems like some children's book that was poorly written.
even though the borg says that this book as written by daniel, chapter 4 is clearly written by "king nebuchad·nezzar to all the peoples, nations, and language groups dwelling in all the earth" after the tree chopping business.
) of the rest of the chapters seem to be written in 3rd person (odd, if you are writing about your experiences).

i know it could be a sensitive subject however we were all once firm believers and could have very well let one of our loved ones die due to what we once believed.. and not to be judgemental on what we would have done or did do in the past ,i sometime wonder if any of the parents or even one parent of the children of the may 22nd 1994 magazine of "youths who put god first " have now regretted their decision to let their children make this decision on their own.. after all these years i find it hard to believe that not one of them have no regrets to what happened to their child.. i can also accept that it would be extremely hard to admit that you allowed your child to make a decision to die on a belief you instilled in them that you no longer now believe in.
i think that would be very hard to live with and come to terms with.. if any of you are here my heart goes out to you because you have gone through hell and my thoughts/vibes are with you..
This is the story of a really great young man and his father that didn't make it to the front cover of the Awake! magazine. However, their story belongs in this op!
I had a very good jw friend, who was also my golfing buddy as well. Our families were close. We shared vacations, boating, snow skiing, sports, dining, and many other good times. They had 4 children and we had 4 children also. His oldest son and my second son were best friends. My friend was a 'good brother' in the eyes of the congregation and came from a well established jw family. Sadly, his oldest son fell ill and after about 6 years of battling, he died from a blood disease in 1998 at the age of 19. He had been treated at several medical facilities during that time. The only known treatment, and one that has had tremendous success, for his disease was a blood transfusion, which he,as a 19 year old adult, refused.
My friend was never the same guy after his son died which I'm pretty sure is not that unusual. Often, for years afterword, he became very emotional around me especially when he saw my son or we talked about the 'good old days'.
One day, in November 2007, we were drinking cocktails and enjoying a football game on TV when he brought up the blood issue. At the time I was an elder. (My friend, though never and elder or ms, was a born-in jw.) He asked me, that since the wtbts had changed their stance on blood fractions AFTER his son died, did I think that the wtbts would ever allow blood transfusions?
I said, "No, I don't think that will ever change". (I really wondered what I'd do if I ever had to face losing a child)
He then asked "Why are blood fractions ok now?" (remember, it's 2007)
I said, "I don't know why there has been a change in the policy."
He said, "Blood fractions could have saved H------------(his son's) life."
I tried to ease his mind by telling him that there are no sure cures and then repeated the company line, "We need to wait on jehovah".
A couple of months later, my friend, a 'good brother', shot himself in the head and died.

i was a jw for over 50 years and recently just stopped cold turkey going to the meetings.
years of sitting at the meetings with the boredom, the gloom and doom, repetition of doctrine, the gloom and doom, the fake love, the gloom and doom, the end being so close, do more - do more, just got to be too much for me to stomach.
i stopped praying to god and no longer thank god for the food before i eat.

Hey Sour,
Pretty much sums up my exact experience in my 60+ years as a jw. Totally agree with everything you posted. Unfortunately, I do attend some mind-numbing meetings with my wonderful, 'still-in', wife and my 90 year old m-i-l to appease them even though they know how I truly feel about the wtbts.
I've often tried reasoning with my wife and my M-I-L that thanking god for what he 'gives us' also implies that he doesn't listen to or doesn't care about those who don't receive those supposed things that god gives us! Same as thanking god when someone we know lives through a very horrible accident or survives life threatening disease. Doesn't that imply that god didn't listen to nor answer the prayers of those whose loved ones didn't survive?
Can't have it both ways-----or can you?

i know your going to be thinking what???.
but it's true, when i was a young boy i had to go to the 5 weekly meetings.
also with my mum we would be at the doors and actually have debates.
Yep, it's hard to believe what the jw religion become. I was a "sort of born in" as my mom became a jw when I was 4 and now I'm 70.
5 hour-long meetings each week, 2-3 hours of fs a week, 4 'new' magazines every month, a 5 to 8 day district convention every year, 2 1/2 day circuit assemblies twice per year, 100 hour per month requirement for regular pioneers (I pioneered 3 years), 75 hours for vacation (auxiliary) pioneers, at least 2 new publications (book) per year, an extra 1-2 meeting during the co visit. Did I forget anything?
Today, I attend on Sunday so my wife doesn't have to go by herself (I haven't been to a mid week meeting for 4 years), haven't been in fs for over 6 years, I attend the 1 day circuit assembly and 3 day district convention to appease wife and mother-in-law and I haven't been hassled by the elders or co. Man this is easy compared to the 'old days'.

i have been thinking about the mentally diseased belief/doctrine of jw's lately and the thread the other day about the mentally challenged child who was brutally (and humorously) honest at a convention got me to wonder something.
it seems to me that jw's use 'mentally diseased' in such a derogatory way as if it is a failing on the part of the person, or almost sinful (demons?
), or perhaps that person should just be dismissed on all counts all the time.
Me thinks that the entire gb are 'mentally diseased' but Lett, well he is also facially diseased!

i've picked up from several replies to posts here that the org has stopped using the term "worldly" as it applies to people.
this must have happened after i left.
would someone be so kind as to explain the "rationale" behind this shift?
More mish mash from the creators of the distinction at john 1;1 were the word "god" becomes "a god". It's part of the "pure language". Listen, obey, and shut up!

why did jesus supposedly cast the demons into a herd of pigs?.
(matt 8 / luke 8).
and, how were there so many demons inside one man, that when "released" by jesus, it took a whole pack of pigs to contain them??.
Mythology strikes again! How does chasing a bunch of pork chops off a cliff destroy the demons inside of them? The pigs might have committed suicide, but spirit creatures (Mythological creatures) certainly wouldn't die from a mere fall off the cliff. So why kill the pork chops? If this story sounds like pig sh*t, and if it smells like pig sh*t, then it must be true---right?

i think it would be great for the gb to clearly define the scriptures that are intended towards the 'anointed' who are already counted, depending on who you believe, and the remainder of scriptures intended for the rest of the followers.
that way there is no confusion during biblical discussions about how little of the bible actually has to do for the great crowd.
and so new studies can clearly see, defined, how little of the bible god cared to preserve for the great crowd.. further it would be useful to know from the gb what scriptures are believed to be literal and which are solely spiritual.. just an idea.
If the wtbts/gb were to ever make such a delineation, they would absolutely lose all their power and or their mystic.
The switching back and forth between what applies to the anointed and the r and f. between what is literal and what is not literal is what gives them the power. Only they can make that distinction! Only they have such deep insight to the bible! Therefore WE NEED them or we are lost!--Problem solved!
Given the FACT that the bible, as we know it, is nothing more than Hebrew mythology it can be applied anyway one wants to believe or be convinced to believe. IMHO, I don't believe many jw's that truly believe everything that is in the bible. Even when I was a gong hoo jw for over 50 years, I had a very difficult time truly believing in those mythological bullsh*t stories!
talking snake, noah's floating zoo, walls falling down at a trumpet blast, red sea just parting, etc., etc.!

i would like to remind those folks younger than i that it was very few years ago when almost the entire planet earth was run by and for the benefit of men.women have throughout history been the property of men.due to religious restrictions, teachings, and fundamentalist doctrines, women in the largest societies on earth right now (muslim, chinese, n.korean) have almost no human rights at all.next year, in june, women will, for the 1st time, be allowed in arabia to drive---but--only if they are 30 years old or older, and for only a few hours per day!the old testament laws (read through them sometime) are horrifying reflective of prejudice toward gender, bodily cleanliness, guilt-tripping, and anonymity.
(what was noah's wife's name?
lot's wife?
All bible readers, including jw's and ex-jw's, certainly have the bible to thank for the way women are viewed in society. In the bible, women are possessions and are owned by men. All the outstanding male bible characters were rewarded (or punished-lol) with multiple wives for their pleasure. I don't recall too many women in the bible that were allowed to have multiple husbands.
Yes Hebrew mythology, that is called the bible, has much to do with the way women are viewed and treated even to this day IMHO! After all, men have the god given right to treat women as inferior--right? I believe that in an unconsciousness manner that I also may have been guilty of viewing my wife in a biblical setting as inferior and not as important as a man. As i reflect back on my uber jw days, shame on me. It will never happen again!

do people get irritated at being spoken to like a 3 year old when they hear him speak?.
No---but I have met other real life clowns!
