I used to be involved with a woman who was a (not very good) JW. We hadn't seen each other for a few years and last month her sister called me to inform me she had died. She had been living in a nursing home for years so this event was not unexpected. I went to the wake and it was full of JWs from her congregation. At one point, one of the older JW men gave a (mind-numbingly, boring, monotone talk). As he prepared to do this, another guy, an Elder, put a tape recorder on a lamp table and started recording. My question is: Does anyone know why they did this? Is it standard to tape talks? Is it going to be used as propaganda to play for potential targets or at a meeting (if it didn't put them to sleep first...)? Also, her sister (the family isn't JW) told me the deceased was going to be cremated. Is there some JW rule about cremation? For some reason I thought I remember it was bad, if not outright discouraged. Thanks for any ideas on this bizarre event. Robert

he's denied allegations of misconduct detailed in a lawsuit filed by three ex-professors.. 1 of 6now, his son, oral roberts university president richard roberts, says god is speaking again, telling him to deny lurid allegations in a lawsuit that threatens to engulf this 44-year-old bible belt college in scandal.

So, he (god) doesn't speak for thousands of years and all of a sudden he decides to break his millenia-long silence by telling these 2 hucksters that they need to raise money to one and to deny allegations leveled against the other? Sorry, I ain't buying it. W.C. Fields was right about a sucker being born every minute. Man, this level of ridiculousness makes my head hurt!!!

Flood of Gilgamesh written long before Noahs flood. Look at how simular!!
by Lady Liberty indear friends,.
lately i have been re-researching some things i learned as i was leaving the borg.
for lurkers and newbies, i thought i would share this with you.. apparently long before the flood of noah, was a story told and recorded on 12 clay tablets, of a flood so simular to noahs that it will be shocking to you if you have never read about it.

Thanks, LL!
In other words, the Bible is not inspired of God.
We were duped.
And the sub-message is: If you have the strength of 12 wild animals, leave the whores alone. They'll just be your undoing!

But even if you don't read the book, the title -- God is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything -- kinda says it all. How can you disagree with the truth?

He has taken a mouthful of nonsense and chewed it into a cud, cow-like, and made milk out of it for all of us to suck from his teats.
Oh, Terry! Dude! Great analogy but it's kinda freakin' me and weirding me out!!!
If it was a woman, that might be OK. But E-Watchman is a MALE and it has made me decidedly off-balance just thinking about it! I'm gonna go surf for porn now...

Your "Good Hope" money pledges (1917)
by TJ - iAmCleared2Land inon another thread, we discussed the instruction from the society (surrounding kh financing) to pass around scraps of paper on which the publishers could put "pledges" for planning purposes.
found this today while examing the older mags.
seems this practice isn't new.

Notice they also used the term near the end "cross-bearing." Does it now say "stake-bearing"?
