"In a human moment before Jehovah grabbed her"
by truthseeker ini often wondered how far back the witnesses had been involved with my family.
my grandmother died at the end of 2013 and while going through her photos we found some of my great-grandmother, dora, who was born in 1901 and died in 1994. there is a photo of dora dated 1946 standing outside her house in east riding, yorkshire.
on the back of the photo her husband had written "in a human moment before jehovah grabbed her".. my great grandfather, who died before i was born, did not like the witnesses.

Diogenesister.
Thank you for your kind comments. My g-grandmother kept a scrapbook from the 1910s and also made oil paintings. She would sit on Worthing seafront (West Sussex) and draw and paint.
My g-grandfather was born in London and married my g-grandmother in 1922. They traveled around England a lot, due to his work, and lived in various places in Yorkshire.
My maternal grandfather was born in Leeds though he had nothing to do with the Witnesses. He died in 2003.Oil painting by my g-grandmother...

Thank you Freddo and scratchme. I will be talking to my folks about when the JWs first became involved to get an accurate picture.
Slidin, I totally agree with you. So many wasted and unhappy years.
Flipper, thank you for your kind comment. There are so many broken lives.

Difficult to internalize that all the connections are gone
by truthseeker ini was in my old stomping ground a couple of months ago and happened to be walking past the home of an old family friend.
word is in the hall that i used to go to is that "i am one of them" meaning apostate.
no one from my old hall has contacted me to find out what happened.

Thanks all for your comments.
It's difficult but I have moved on and made new friends. Every so often I get a reminder of days gone by.
It's just with old witness friends and acquaintances, it's so final. At least with old school friends, you can contact them years later and catch up, but with the witnesses it's impossible. And the reason isn't that you've fallen out, it's that you've left the religion.

This is a photo of my great-grandparents, Dora and Frank, dated 1935. The little girl is my grandmother Christine. She died in 2013 after a long illness but was forever talking about Jehovah and the good news of the Kingdom.
They could have had such a different life if they had never got involved with the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Both my great-grandparents were artists. The drawing below was made by my great-grandfather, Frank.
My great-grandmother, Dora, kept a sketchpad of her drawings. I don't recall how long she was in the truth for but she was eventually disfellowshipped, I think for smoking.

My great grandfather, who died before I was born, did not like the witnesses. And thus began a decades long involvement with the Watchtower spanning four generations.
