Do those leaving a legacy leave it for their congregation or the World Wide Work?
by truthseeker ini'm trawling through the uk charity listings for congregations, and of those who added additional financial information, i am seeing a lot of congregations receive legacies.
in the years 2015 and 2016, a lot of money left to the congregation was donated to the world wide work/ibsa.. i realize the letter from 2015 was read out asking congregations to donate excess reserves to the branch office but is this what the testator really wanted?.
consider gloucster kingsholme congregation.

Consider Gloucster Kingsholme congregation. They received a legacy (amount not stated) but there filing for 2016 contains the following statement:
There is also a separate Kingdom Hall Building Fund, to which we have contributed together with
the Hempsted, Tredworth and Tuffley Congregations. The balance of this fund as at 31st March 2016
was £239,583.27. This money would normally be transferred to the Society for kingdom hall and
assembly hall construction, but due to the specific wording in the terms of the legacy, it can only be used for the building of a second kingdom hall in Gloucester. For Great Yarmouth, the congregation received a legacy of £105,105 in 2015 and donated 91,659 of that to the Branch office in 2015.

Significant sums of money donated. It seems congregations have been "robbed" by donating a ton of money to Brooklyn/IBSA since that letter was read, no doubt to pay for more lawsuits.

Aberdare Congregation Of Jehovahs Witnesses sold their hall in 2016 for £70,000 and donated this and an additional £10,000 for a total of 80,000 to the World Wide Work.
Bexhill On Sea Pebsham Congregation Of Jehovahs Witnesses received a legacy of £25,320 for 2016 and donated £20,000 to the World Wide Work. Interestingly, the accounts statement records a negative line item of £1 as this was reported to be a fake pound coin!
Biggleswade Congregation Of Jehovahs Witnesses donated £87,000 to the World Wide Work in 2015.
In 2016 Blackburn Roe Lee Congregation Of Jehovahs Witnesses received a legacy of a whopping £361,471 and donated £360,180 to the World Wide Work. -

I should have some interesting stats soon for the U.K. thanks to the charity website and it's beta version. Many congregations have merged and been delisted as charities. Most of the consolidation has been going on since 2015.
The Beta version of the U.K. Charity website has the number of members/volunteers for many congregations as well as the number of trustees/elders so it's now possible to calculate a ratio of elders to publishers.

Konceptual99, thanks for the offer, I may just take you up on that.
flipper, thank you for your advice and encouragement.
steve, yes, I agree with your thoughts on this.
At the time, before I learned TTATF, I didn't think of friendships being conditional. They just were.
