Exodus 24:10 - The Israelites saw Jehovah? Has this scripture ever been explained?
by truthseeker inhas anyone really pondered what this means?
jehovah said that no man can see god and live, and here at least 70 people saw jehovah standing on a bright blue pavement.
24 then the lord said to moses, come up to the lord , you and aaron, nadab and abihu, and seventy of the elders of israel.

illustrated:
70 elders saw God -----------------> no man can see God and live
contradiction
therefore
70 elders saw a vision of God (could be anything) ---------------> no man can see God and live
no contradiction

This is what happens when WT writers can't accept the verse as being literal because it contradicts the other verse that says "no man can see God and live'".
So, they took it upon themselves to change the Hebrew verse so that it conforms to their theology. This eliminates the contradiction.
Anything where Bible verses contradict each other can simply be explained away as a vision or symbolic imagery.

Apognophos,
I understand what you are trying to say but it would only make sense if the whole passage was poetic.
There is nothing remotely poetic about these verses, they continue on in like manner from v1-8.
9 Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up 10 and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky. 11 But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank.

I'm trying to envisage 70 older men eating and drinking and watching Jehovah at the same time.
I just can't see it. At Mt. Sinai, everyone was told to stay away from where God was, in this scripture they see God at the same time they're casually eating and drinking.
Something's not right here.

Has anyone really pondered what this means? Jehovah said that no man can see God and live, and here at least 70 people saw Jehovah standing on a bright blue pavement.
24 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord , you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. You are to worship at a distance, 2 but Moses alone is to approach the Lord ; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him.”
3 When Moses went and told the people all the Lord ’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the Lord has said we will do.” 4 Moses then wrote down everything the Lord had said.
He got up early the next morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up twelve stone pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 Then he sent young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as fellowship offerings to the Lord . 6 Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and the other half he splashed against the altar. 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the Lord has said; we will obey.”
8 Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
12 The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.”

2014 Release: God's Kingdom Rules. - The Generation Game continues
by truthseeker ini really didn't want to add yet another change to my generation chart i produced a few years ago, but on reading this chapter in the new book on overlapping generations, it ocurred to me that they really are trying to pull the wool over our eyes.. .
how can the governing body really believe this?
how can they expect any intelligent person to just swallow this without complaint?.

I really didn't want to add yet another change to my generation chart I produced a few years ago, but on reading this chapter in the new book on overlapping generations, it ocurred to me that they really are trying to pull the wool over our eyes.
How can the Governing Body really believe this? How can they expect any intelligent person to just swallow this without complaint?
And yet, 7.5 million JWs will just eat this up as yet more proof that the "light gets brighter"
It's got to the point where I feel the Governing Body are laughing at us. They must know the end game is near, yet they pull the strings of the faithful and keep them in expectation.
I'm beginning to wonder now, after reviewing decades of doctrinal changes, that there isn't some unknown malevolent force at work that is deliberately manipulating hearts and minds with this garbage.
