Alternatives to JWism
by gitasatsangha ini know most witnesses leave indivudually, and some, like me, want nothing to do with their theology afterwords, but i am curious, sometimes, why there hasn't been more of a schim or general exedus over much of the more recent stupidity at wtbs.
i was thinking that it was because there was no alternative to the iron grip of the gb, for those who believe in the many of the jw things but have no recourse except the authoritative structure, but the bible student groups that did not kowtow to rutherford have been around since the twenties.
i don't know much about them, but i met a few bible students and they were nice.

They lack any sort of organization, really, leaving it to the congregation level, and they have a somewhat odd reliance on Russle's blatherings, but still, what keeps more JWs from leaving to their cousins, the Bible Students?
just curious to hear your thoughts on the question

I RENOUNCE MY ASSOCIATION WITH JWS
by REALNESS init is my pleasure to announce i have terminated my membership of the jehovahs wittnesses.
i shall be formally making this statement known to my congregation at tomorrow nights meeting after i have taken the ministry school.
for many years i have developed my own thoughts on religion and this along with the information i have learned here and on other sites has convinced me that i can no longer live teaching the bollocks the wtbs.

U.N. Dismantled
by joannadandy ini just read an article where they were interviewing noam chomsky.
(i'm not even going to post the whole article because i know with 95% accuracy who will post on the thread, which posters will think he is a brilliant guy, and which posters think he is a pinko cornholio.
) in the article he mentioned, and then loosely named the wasington post and wall street journal, that there is a new call that perhaps the u.n. should disband.

Noam Chomsky is an a leftist-anarchist, of course. I like him. It will be interesting, however to see the Right jump unwittingly on his bandwagon. I love it!

Whats the aftermath for you?
by Brummie inpeople who have never been jws seem to think we can simply walk away from it "get a life" and move on (as if we dont have a life or something).
i was wondering what consequences you peronally suffer for having been a jw?
depersonalisation, depression, keeping people at a distance, none...etc?.

I agree with you. It is extremely difficult to build friendships at anything more then the shallowest level.

Medical conditions that will prevent you from getting baptized.
by Bugs Bunny inhave you ever noticed that moderate to severe cases of mental conditions will keep you from getting baptized?
mental retardation, learning disabled or with disabilities, multiple personalities, old timers disease, these will keep you from being baptized and will get you disfellowshipped.
i told some people to look around at conventions and if any of these sick people were found, they were to go up and ask if they were publishers.

I helped out in the First Aid department at a convention once (which is a joke in itself), and we had to help a man with a broken leg get baptized. The guy coordinating this had us put his leg in some very big leaf bags then duct tape the whole mess down real good so it wouldn't get in his cast. I can't remember him being immersed very well except to say that his head did go all the way under.
I had a friend that was being baptized but his toes kept coming up. They had to baptise him three times to get him totally underwater.

Is God out there?
by digderidoo ini have left the org for many years now.
sometimes i think jehovah is there, sometimes i think there cannot be a god for all the suffering that we see happening in this world.. just lately i have been wondering if god really exists, is the bible his word or is it all just a load of b*****ks.
i have looked into other religions, buddhism for instance, i believe we are spiritual, but is there a need for a god?

I hate to be preachy but perhaps you could become better aquainted with other ideas of god, duty, action and love. Not many westerners take the time to learn about Krishna, but it is well worth the small effort. Here is a copy of Bhagavhad Gita online, which is a 700 vs poem. Not long, really, and shorter then the Bible or a watchtower book:
