These books by Veronica Roth have a lot of parallels to JWs and cult control.

I think Veronica Roth (the author of the series) has a JW background. Wikipedia says the following:

"Her maternal grandparents were concentration camp survivors, whose religious convictions pushed her mother away from religion."

In the second book of the series Tris is somehow looking at a religious ceremony and then thinking of her own upbringing.

Tris remembers the religion of her parents and admits that one part of her still holds on to this faith and another just finds it ridiculous - "the prayers before meals, the weekly meetings, the services, the poems about a selfless god."

Then they invite Tris to a religious ceremony, they give her a hand, talk about God's peace which is undeserved. She frees herself and runs as fast as she can to the trees. She stops and is fighting with tears.

What's More Important...Taking care of immigrants or the needy in your country?

i say take care of the needy ones first like our veterans and homeless and mentally ill, and then....take care of those not from this country.

What about not being partial and help / care for ANY human being in need?

We humans are one family, no matter from which country we are.

In a Kindergarten in Germany, children where asked if they have refugees or foreigners in their Kindergarten group. The answer of a child. "NO, THERE ARE JUST CHILDREN."

i was learning how to manage my emotion to these women because they were strong emotion to me.

i know the scripture inform me to not to hold against them as god will take care of them.

If they talk to or text you just reply very friendly. "My husband and I are perfectly fine. If we need your spiritual guidance and help we will contact you as soon as possible."

They will make efforts to meet you, because you stopped reporting fs. After 6 months of no reporting you are officially inactive in their statistics. When the CO comes he will pressure the elders and ask what happened to you and what they did to help you.

If they wanna meet you and say: "We would like to talk to you about our relationship to Jehovah." you can answer.

"We have a very strong and cherished relationship to Jehovah. This relationship is personal and we don't discuss it. If we need your spiritual guidance and help we will contact you as soon as possible."

Congratulations for not reporting anymore. Doesn't it feel liberating.

Dear Syrian Refugees

welcome to canada from one immigrant to another !.

calgary is welcoming it's first refugees from syria and iraq so tomorrow i'm going to take all the winter clothing that we have and donate it to a women / children's charity.

it's not much (well, actually, it's a huge pile ... everything from when we first moved over!

It's heartwarming to see that many Canadians are welcoming them and want to help.

I volunteer in a project to help integrate refugees in Switzerland. I meet a Syrian refugee every week to speak the local language with him, to show him different places and to help him with different things like searching for an apartment and paper work. He is such a kind person, learning amazingly fast and only after a few months making big progress in the German language.

People don't need to be afraid of refugees. They are just normal human people. Some might be traumatized. If the political situation in our home would be different, WE WOULD BE THE REFUGEES.

It is a narrow gap. It all depends where you are born and how the political situation changes.

The Military Failure of the United States of America. Why?

the usa is undoubtedly the strongest military power in the world, and has often been willing to use that power against other nations, some historians count 187 foreign wars in 200 years, and this youtube video lists the wars the us has fought in the twentieth century, most of which, (in the earliest part of the 20th c) it can be argued, were won by the usa.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q51nfakme-g. this is not an argument about the rightness or wrongness of any war.

the argument is why the mightiest ever military power, a political power that controls overwhelming destructive forces, a power that claims to stand on the side of its god, does not win wars?

Maybe because you can't solve most conflicts with military power and force.

I am convinced that you can't get rid of IS and solve the conflict in Syria and Iraq with bombings and air raids.

With any civilian casualty, with every innocent child being killed by air attacks new terrorists are created.

I believe most importantly it should be cared for that IS can get no more financial means, that they can't sell their oil, that they can't get more arms. Then the Iraki government should be formed by Sunni and Shia groups, both being equally and all respected. The IS then might be like fish in a pond where their water will dry.

I miss my family so much. I thought I was over it but I have breakdowns every few months thinking about my family

as most of you know i have been shunned by my family for 2 years because of a photo posted on facebook of me kissing another girl at a party.

the matter was not dealt with fairly but it is over now and i am 100% certain that jdub org is a cult.

but i miss my family so much.

You are a very courageous person as you deal with the difficulties leaving this cult and its indoctrination.

The most important I think is to be true to yourself and live according to your conscience, your deep inner feelings.

I see that you are looking forward to have children in the future. Being a parent and to lovingly care for a wonderful child is a very important and great blessing.

Take good care to it, that you create a new life, when you are ready for it and also when your partner is ready for it.

At that time I recommend you not to compromise on the wellfare of your children. For example if you are reinstated and faded, your parents will expect from you, to bring your children up in the JW way. If you won't do that and for example let your kids celebrate holidays etc. you can expect to be disfellowshipped again, even if you completely faded. Your family members could organize that the local elders will visit you, which would lead to that result.

And even if they don't df you, you would have constant pressure from your family to conform with JW teachings.

Only you know how to react in the situation you are in. Listen to your heart but also just think about different scenarios.

What if you let your family know, that you are a loving person living by conscience and moral principles and happy outside of JW world?

Then you can build up your own strong family with a loving partner.

Your parents and family will see and come to respect that you bring up your children with your conscience and moral principles free of the jw rules and indoctrination. Let them know that they are always welcome to have an important part in your and your childrens life.

for example, the following:matt 6:3 '...but when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing...'.

matt 10:8 '... freely you have received; freely give...'.

I know some individuals who acted that way.

They did that however in their own initiative and not because the org promoted it.

The WT org doesn't promote this idea.
