how honest are the proponents of jesus as the ransom sacrifice?.
curious to see what type of response there is on a topic like this or does their study only seek to confirm their preconceptions and ignore uncomfortable facts?.
I grew up as a JW with the teaching of the ransom sacrifice.
I never really understood, how and why a ransom must be paid back to an allmighty god.
Why is there a need for an unimaginably cruel human sacrifice (Jesus) just because Adam and Eve (who probably didn't even live) were a bit rebellious and ate from the wrong fruit?
Is it not a cruel god, to bring death and suffering to billions of humans just because 2 humans were a bit rebellious?
What does it tell about god, that he needed another being to be tortured to a human death just to get this so called ransom?
For me, the ransom doctrine makes god a cruel monster, being in need of human sacrifice.
I believe that Jesus lived and that his teachings are a good influence for mankind, but I can't believe in this picture of god that the ransom doctrine paints.
My view of god is completely different.
Probably this doesn't make me a christian, as a christian should believe in the ransom, i guess.
no icelanders under the age of 25 believe the creation story that god was responsible for creating the universe, a new poll claims.the poll, commissioned by the icelandic ethical humanist association, claims that 93.9 per cent in the under 25 category responded that the universe was created by the big bang.
just over 6 per cent responded with ‘don’t know’ or ‘other’.
none of the respondents, however, believed that the universe had been created by god.
asking this q because my own feeling about this is that he probably believed in god but his evolutionary thesis is used to support atheism.
how come?
He became an agnostic.
Evolution does not say anything against the concept of a "higher creative power" or "god."
in november i was disfellowshipped for apostasy or in other words, because i live by my conscience and not according to the unloving rules of a human organisation.
details of my story and the judicial committee you find in my older threads.. i am lucky, as the relationship to my parents is the same as before.
now my mother told me what one elder (cobe of the congregation of my ex wife) told one sister.. he met her on the street and talked about my disfellowshipping.

Well, I like Harry Potter and all kind of fantasy stories and fairytales.
LOL In their eyes I must be a devil worshipper practicing witchcraft and magic ;-) when all I did was standing in for my conscience, celebrating my sons birthday and sticking to my conviction that in a medical urgency I would never ever let my son bleed to death.
i'm in a crazy situation.
about a year ago, i was going to get baptized.
it was all planned and arranged until ttatt was learned.
Just be kind to your dad and don't talk to him about baptism. Maybe he just overreacted.
I never heard anything about a dad throwing his son out because he is not getting baptized. By the way that is not even supported by the organisation or the elders.
If your father asks you again about baptism just tell him that you are not ready. You can tell him that Jesus was 30 when he was baptized.
You have all your life before you. Great that you realized the truth about this org when you are so young.
So you will be able to have a good life without this organizations influence. You are free.
since i just signed up and posted a few times without doing this yet, here is my story..
i think that i became a jehovahs witness because of my immaturity.
i had some quirky personality traits, and i joined finding that i fit in because, as i said to myself: these people get me.
Hi David
Such a wonderful first post. Your words contain a lot of truth for all of us, because this little "Jehovahs Witness" is really showing sometimes, for some more, for some less. You will also realize it here in this forum.
I wish you all the best from my heart.
so i was just reading a thread and came across a completely new jw 'rule', that of not being allowed to go fishing!..
at least it's new to me as i always enjoyed fishing as did others in my old congregation.
anyone else heard of this or had this imposed on them in they're jw lives?.
There is no official jw rule against fishing and hunting. Don't believe everything you hear.
However I think it is good to ask yourself why fishing or why hunting?
I think it wouldn't be morally right to do it just for fun. That is my opinion and has nothing to do with JWs.
4 months ago i was conducting the watchtower study along with a long list of responsibilities that come with being an elder in a very goofy congregation.
during this time my health was going down hill.
i've always had a low blood pressure,(102/65 or abouts) but for the past year it had creeped up to 135/90 range.. so 2 months ago after learning ttatt, i'm still considered an elder because the brothers won't let me step down, but i haven't done anything in that time except comment once at a meeting a few weeks ago.
I wish you all the best for your health.
And you are very courageous to learn TTATT and trying to step down.
I was an elder too. You said they won't let you step down. Of course they don't want you to step down. So you need to be persistent.
If you decide to step down, stay your ground and step down no matter what they try to hinder you.
You don't have to make lengthy explanations. You could even say for health reasons and leave it at that. But you need to say NO!, even if they don't like it.
You will feel better if you listen to your conscience.
For me it was such a great relief, not being an elder anymore.
Wish you all the best.
does anybody remember a rumour or maybe it was a truth?
?...something about hidden pictures or symbols in the artwork of the watchtower.
was it one of those urban legends?
DD I just love your posts... had such a laugh.
"Long Dong" is the reason I keep the old songbook ;-)
