Wow... so the real meaning of the quote is: Don't use Matthew 24:36 as an excuse. We KNOW it's coming.
Wow... just... wow this site and the insight I get from it never ceases to amaze me.
one thing is absolutely certain, bible chronology reinforced with fulfilled bible prophecy shows that six thousand years of mans existence will soon be up, yes, within this generation!
(matt.
24:34) this is, therefore, no time to be indifferent and complacent.

i have heard that a lot of the english congregations in mexico are shutting down... they are condensing 5 congregations into one, or in some areas even disbanding the only english congregation.
jw's who have been living in mexico for many years and probably were sheltered by being in the english congregations will now have to move to spanish congregations.... .
ilttatt.
But the big question is WHY? Do the foreign-language congs end up being totally different from the "regular" congs? I doubt it's for money, unless for some reason the foreign-language groups are money-suckers...
It doesn't make sense...
Something interesting that I think is worth mentioning: My friend said that he had not noticed much of the more recent articles because he was so distraught by the fact that his congregation is going to be axed...
So... maybe it's a smokescreen?
idk...

I suspect what is happening to the English congregations in Mexico is the same as is happening to foreign language congregations in most countries. They are trying to get them to integrate with the native speakers. Many foreign language congs and groups in the UK have been dissolved, and the ones left now have the same CO as the english language congs in their circuit. I know it's the same in Italy too.
Wait... so this is happening in other countries too? Since when? What languages are being affected?
Are the languages being affected the "joke" ones? (Don't mean to offend anyone, but English in Mexico is a joke)....
What about, for example, Spanish in the US? Dissolving that would be quite the blow to the Society's coffers...

The main problem is that many of these English congregations in Mexico don't need to exist in the first place. Some of them may have 50 people attending, and every single one of them speaks Spanish fluently. Or the only ones that don't shipped themselves in to 'serve where the need is great.' Problem is, there are practically zero native English speakers in their territory. Outside of a few retirement spots and resort areas, there are very few native English speakers in Mexico.
Just about all of these congregations exist due to an artificial 'need' that a few local witnesses (or transplants) have dreamed up.
True, most of the "new recruits" speak Spanish fluently. There are many reasons for them to be in an English hall, many of them are there because it's "cooler" to be in an English hall... many of the new recruits are the richest of Mexicans (if you speak English, you generally increase your life opportunities 10-fold).

They are able to live a much grander lifestyle and probably seem very materialistic to the local brothers
The area of Mexico where I used to be... the "native-english" brothers almost all lived in a resort and were retired. One of them had a very nice truck, iPhone, lots of stuff, and his "knocking rock" was actually a $100 peso coin!! (around 8 dollars)...
My first thought was: Are you OUT OF YOUR MIND? Going to the poorest areas of the city, in your flashy car, with your flashy phone, and with a $100 peso coin as your "knocking rock"? And then you preach "having a simple eye"??!?!
The Mexican brothers usually went there to hide from the Spanish congregations. It was well known that the English halls were a lot more "open-minded"....

Captain obvious: I LOVED the parties in Mexico!! So much fun!!
Data dog: Like you said, English in Mexico is a joke...
steve2: Can you elaborate?
recently on a saturday morning there was a knock on my door.
two ladies asked me if i was familiar with the jws.
i said: yes unfortunatley.
Lots of my awakenings happened while in service, actually!
Reading other people's bibles made me see how different ours was...
For example, in the Psalms where the righteous shall posses the Earth... it was translated "country" in the Bible I read... and I immediately got the point that it was the land of Israel...
So that awoke me... another one was not finding the phrase "nor the Son" in someone's Bible... I was shocked because the WT decided to add those words where in that one gospel (can't remember which one it was), the phrase is not in some manuscripts...
The best advice anyone's ever given me is, ILTTATT, READ THE BIBLE ON YOUR OWN, WITHOUT USING WATCHTOWER PUBLICATIONS!!
That was a big part of what helped me wake up...
So... ironically... preaching helped me wake up...

... No, the halls would be the same that the Spanish congregations use... So it does not seem to be money-related.
It is just weird that they develop the English field in Mexico and suddenly, out of the blue, they disband congregations!!
Something is up... but I have no clue what it is!
As to English-speaking dubs who never learnt Spanish while living for years in Mexico, that just pissed me off...

Anyone else know about this? What could be the cause behind this?

up to about 5 minutes ago... i still had the notion that maybe jw's predicted something and got it right... that the league of nations was going to rise and become the united nations.
i think that jw prophecies/predictions are like a shotgun: shoots many projectiles, one of them has got to hit.
you cannot predict 5 different things and then, when one of them gets partly fulfilled, drop the other 4.5 things, change the 1/2 thing you predicted that was right and make it seem like that was the only thing you predicted, and make the entire one point fit after the fact.. reading watchtower literature throughout the years (1879 till now), and then coming here and getting awesome explanations from people like leolaia and other researchers, i finally understand the claim that most apostate websites make: the wt has a 100% prediction failure rate.. they were lucky that something big happened in 1914... but now i am much wiser and i know that everything they predicted for 1914 did not turn out as they predicted... 1914 has been a date with many different hats... from the start of armageddon, to the beginning of the last days... etc.... thank you very much jwn for completely opening my mind.
Simon commented on my post!! I am HONORED, Sir!
