Health, fitness and recovery advice
by SecretSlaveClass ini hope this is okay with you simon, but since i've noticed the number of forum members looking to discuss or seek advice on various health issues i thought it would be a good idea to start a thread dedicated to this topic alone.
any discussions or advice on these matters could be put here where any and all would be welcome to jump in with any help they could offer.
i am working on the first questions at the moment taken from the cognac/morpheus weight loss thread.

Thanks LisaRose for your input. You wrote about this in the other thread and it resonated within me when I read it. It's hard for me to try to find that right balance. I've always been the all or nothing type, which is not working for me. As you saud it's about lifestyle changes for the long term. I need to let that sink in.
SSS- thank you! What you say makes alot of sense. I sent a PM with my vital statistics. I'm looking forward to making adjustments in my current routine.
I thought the thick bone structure was a myth or excuse that some used. From googling the term, it looks like I'm of a thick bone structure. I never thought this the case, just overweight. Is it really about the "bone" structure or those more prone to store body as oppose to those with a more muscular build? Are they same? Can the bone structure change overtime? I feel like once i get rid of the fat, i would no longer look like the big bone structure but somewhere in between the big and fine types? If that makes any sense? I guess I'm trying understand what defines bone structure, weight, muscles, etc?

What are your thoughts on Weight Watchers? Do you ever recommend it to your clients?
I was sort of against it, not because I didn't believe it would work but for two reasons, my husband kept pushing it on me and I knew he would be allowed more points than I and l felt I would start eating things I normally wouldn't eat, just because I could and possibly not lose. For example, my husband would eat waffles with syrup, i already felt i was eating a heathier breakfast and didn't want to start habits I didnt already have.
Anyway, we bought fitbits last november, started doing 10,000 steps a day and a tracked my calories in vs calories out with a 750 calorie deficit built in. Was pretty consistent in this and by January, only lost about 2 lbs. but could see some differences in the way clothing fit. But I was exhausted, my legs feeling like weights were on them when I would walk. I was taking advil and sometimes a recovery drink just to make it through to the next workout. I sort of fell off.
My huband joined WW in February and i refused to do it. I think i mainly didnt want to be disappointed if I don't see results but was sacrificing more than my husband. (I know I have issues, but we've jumped on and off of bandwagons for years. He's always the one with the suggestion and the first to quit it. So it becomes irritating when I'm the only one still ay it)
Well he lost 2 lbs the 1st week. Another 2 the 2nd week and is down at least 10 now. So I gave in and joined out of desperation to shed some lbs. I'm going into week 4 and have lost 4 lbs. I'm only getting 10,000 steps about 4 times a week but mo less than 5,000. My goal is to get back up to the 10,000 daily but i'll do it gradually so I'm not so fatigued.
I don't doubt that my original strategy would not have worked but I feel it would've taken about 3-4 months before I made a breakthrough. What worked for me 10 years ago is not working the same for me know that I'm my forties. I used to increase exercise, then start modifying my food within a couple of months or once I hit a plateau so as to maintain my energy during the beginning.
I don't get what i was doing wrong this time but I know that WW is working for now. I'm not sure if i was stressing my body out trying to burn so many calories just so I could keep eating what i wanted. Sometimes I would be way less than the 750 daily calorie deficit. I also didn't force myself to eat breakfast and lunch. I would sometimes do one or the other depending on how busy my work day was. Now, I'm doing both, just so there are no unused points at the end of my day.

Banned from the second school!
by purrpurr ini've been told by a jw friend that when her hall recently had a refurb that big changes were made to the second school.. one, a large sign has been placed on the door telling people not to use it and to sit in the main hall itself.. two, that all the chairs which used to face the large windows looking into the main hall are now side on to the window facing the wall instead.. this is because "so many people were sitting out in there!
people were finding all manner of exhuses to sit-in there and the brothers want us to all be together in the main hall!
" she said.. of course i didn't tell her what i really thought of this but seriously?

Where will all the anxious, germ and fragrance phobic go now?
A friend of mine attended this congregation where they had a third school that had a sign on the door that said "fragrance free room" with a closed circuit TV. They said there were times when the 1st and 2nd schools would be full and have no empty seats and no one was allowed to sit in 3rd school. There was one time when a sister went to sit in there and was turned away from the room. They said she was upset about it and ended up leaving the KH and going home.
The main person using the 3rd school was the P.O.'s wife and her family.

@KiddingMe-
That description about the restrictions on the call-in features sounds just like what I experienced in Napa, Ca. Are you sure we weren't in the same hall?
I'm on the Easy Coast. But now I'm wondering if this direction is more widespread than I thought, or a new policy.
@Kairos- do you remember how long ago this happened at your hall? Ours happened this past January?

One of our elders recently told my husband that he wants to get me to give a comment (I haven't commented in over 3 yrs). Lol. He's been assigning scriptures to one of my husband's buddies, like he's a kid. I told my husband, that's not going to happen. I will give a comment when i want to give one- for myself, not for brother --. -

It won't be long before they start putting restrictions on the use of the 'phone-in' feature for those who opt to stay home but for whatever reason have a need to phone in to listen to the meetings.
They already did this in our hall. We had a local needs about it but the direction come from the society. Basically said what you said, its for the shut in. Not people with short term illnesses. Said so many are phoning in that the ones that need it, can't get through the line because there is a limited no. of spot available on the conference call. They said they did an audit and even had callers from out of state calling. So they changed the pass code and only gave it to a select few.
It was interesting that they stressed that the direction was coming from the society. At first I was thinking the society was doing it keep apostates at bay, but i didn't notice postings about it here, so I assumed it must be more of a local issue.

They used to have a chair blocking the door to our second school. Some took issue with it, moving the chair and entering anyway. Especially those with small children, that didnt want to have to go and sit in the bathroom everytime their little one got antsy. Someone complained that thier donations pay for the hall like everyone else. After a couple of weeks the chair blocking the door was gone.
As previous posters stated, it all about control. It is probably one or two brothers forcing this issue.

This week's resurrection video, will it backfire on the wt?
by prologos inthe resurrection is supposed to be a joyous occasion?, if it ever happened!
--well, this week's showing at the hall was the opposite, it was about death with violins playing in the background.
a recently bereaved member, , full of tears, (like many others) could not contain herself.

An elder walked out in tears. His mother died about two years ago. At least 10 others were visably emotional and crying. A brother walked back and forth up and down the aisles with a tissue box for those that didn't hide thier need for tissue. One sister's elderly mom is in the hospital and brother committed suicide. You could hear her sniffles. One of the other elder's wife just died about a year ago. He really didnt participate in this "resurrection" meeting as he normally does. I think it was just too much.
I said to my husband, I don't understand the purpose in showing that video. He said, what's wrong with it? So, when I said, it just seemed really insensitive to show. We already seen it at the convention, it was hard to watch then. I continued, they could've asked us to view it at home, and then ask questions about the video like they used to do. That way people are not forced to deal with something so emotional in front of everyone.
He had no response. He saw how many were in tears. He's also lost a family member recently. I was about in tears myself watching others suffer through not only the video but the other parts of the meeting before the video where the brother asked everyone to close their eyes and envision a loved one that they would like to see again. Then employed them to give comments on something special they miss about them, asking what they would like to see that person doing again. Two or three broke down in thier comments before the video was shown. I think this made it worse, they already had the audience very emotional and raw before showing the video.
