Updated Recommended Reading List
by doubtfull1799 innot long after i joined here i posted a reading list of books that helped me wake up, but since then i've read so many more that i've found invaluable in furthering and refining my new worldview, plus giving me a more in-depth well read perspective on theological and scientific issues.
so i thought i'd post an updated comprehensive list for other voracious readers like me who are always looking for good books to read.
how jesus became god - bart d. ehrman.

Thanks! This is a great list to have. I agree- could you recommend your top 3 or 5 or suggest recommendations for starters. I've read Crisis of Conscience and Steve Hassan's Books but wouldn't know where to begin.

by TerryWalstrom inhttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-4935392/leah-remini-turn-attention-jehovah-s-witnesses.html.
remini said that she was warned of the jehovah’s witnesses that 'these f----rs are super powerful,' but is not one to cower in fear.. 'are you ready for my response?
'i don’t give a s--- about powerful.

Thanks for sharing. This could get interesting, I've been watching Leah Remini's show sometimes playing the same episode I've already watched when my family is around so they hear and possibly subconsciously take notice of some of the similarities. They usually have looks on their faces as if to say those people are crazy but they dont take a deep enough interest to sit down and watch.
But every now and then I will over hear my husband discussing a point with someone else about how crazy scientology is. He loved watching King of Queens. I'm curious how he may react if she turns her attention to JW's.

This week's "Give Us Your Money" meeting item.
by freddo inif you went to it, (or go later this week) how was it handled?
just the video or some commentary too?.
i have heard of a few negative comments from some that attended - one jw even openly said to me "not very encouraging, all they go on about is money lately" and another (a serving elder, no less) said "someone's got to pay for all those lawsuits".

The timing of articles at the end of the year is very interesting. I agree that it may have to do with competing with donations from other charities.
Also, many company's and government agencies in the U.S. give end of year cash bonuses, so this could be a way to tap into some of these funds of JWs.
Holiday spending and shopping picks up during this time of year...so maybe some (especially if they formally celebrated Christmas) are in more of a gift giving spirit??

This is not my personal experience but it left an impression on me and I'm sure all of those in attendance.
About a half hour before the start of the Friday morning program, a brother sitting in the lower level of the center passed out. They carried him from the row he was sitting on down to the main floor and performed CPR. Emergency medics were called and when they arrived they took over the CPR and life saving efforts. This lasted for what seemed like a half hour or more and into the very beginning of the program. From what I could see, it didnt look well, as there wasn't any movement or responsiveness from him for a while.
Of course this was a big scene and the audience was in shock and many in tears watching. Everthing was happening not far from the stage.
They eventually put him on a stretcher and continued lifesaving efforts while rolling him away. It almost seemed that they continued lifesaving efforts for show because of the thousands of on lookers and for the sake of the family that was standing there... which I could understand.
We found out later the brother died. They spoke from the platform on Sunday that his wife had still attended the other days of the convention.
I remember thinking while they were doing CPR, that if that was my husband and he died in this manner at the convention location we attended for the last 20 years, that I dont think I could come back but of course everyone grieves differently.

Update on the $4000 day fine - Padron v Watchtower
by berrygerry infrom reddit:.
this was an oral argument to dismiss the $4000/day fine.
both sides presented their arguments and now the judges will write an opinion (30 to 90 days).

Sir82 is correct. Ours is Sunday. Field service is still expected on Saturday and any that normally meet up at the hall for service on Sat. will be meeting with other groups since the hall is being used for another congregation to view the annual meeting.

On a side note, notice the guy the young lady is dating in the video has a light beard denoting him in a negative light to JWs.Then its stated that the parents used Aaron's example from the bible and they show a picture of Aaron with a beard. It's like the only way they can portray a wordly man is with a beard but yet they use a bearded man in the bible as example.

The guy says in the video that he got the fruit and drink from commissary. Maybe they billed him because he took it without paying for it.
That still is petty for HQ to do considering the circumstances.
It seems that the guy initially got some type of notice but then things changed. Maybe he started voicing his feelings about what was happening to him to others in bethel?

I am really sorry for what you are going through. It's so disgusting what this cult does to people.
