Another example of. Brotherly love you can only find in jehovahs organization
by nowwhat? inso my 88 mil died and was the epitome of a faithful sister.
my wife and her sister are members of the congregation for 40+ years.
to be fair it was short notice but we had the showing and visitation and only about 12 out of 120 of the congregation showed up and only 1 elder!

I am so sorry for your loss.
I attended a JW funeral recently but none of the members of the congregation were present. Just the immediate family. The service was done on zoom. I believe they are pretty much recommending the members of the congregation not attend in person.
I agree there are exceptions for grocery shopping etc., which is why I attended, but I feel that it’s frowned upon. The announcement to the congregation didn’t even give the option to attend in person, just a zoom link. I know the family was open to it, and would have appreciated it if more attended or at least came through briefly.

Aunt Jemima and Mrs.Buttersworth Need To Be Destroyed!
by minimus inwe have to get rid of these racist relics.
i propose that we destroy all these bottles of syrups and burn every pancake box !
we need to get rid of anything that reminds us of anything negative concerning slavery.. in boston they decapitated the head of christopher columbus and got rid of his statue.

I was thinking... for all these people who want to remove every past mistake or simple history, right or wrong, it’s no different than what the Watchtower has done by simply removing past comments in their literature or removing the literature itself so that evidence never existed to support their wrongness.
I think it’s different, just because a change is made going forward, it doesn’t erase the past. We can always go back and see what it was before. That’s different then the WT efforts to not be upfront and hide the past when they remove words or older articles. WT has control over the library so for the most part they can change history where they want (except for where there are individuals that have an original copy).

“White Privilege”
by minimus inlately that’s all i’ve been hearing about!
i’m sick and tired of listening to white people begging for forgiveness simply because they are white.
in a nearby town, a six year old girl asked her mom, “ why don’t we have a black lives matter march here?

Just to clarify my post. When I mention we were taught how to act around the police, it had nothing to do with teaching us not to resist and more to do with things like, make sure your hands are in sight, don’t reach in to your pocket or make sudden moves.

I can relate to Silentbuddha’s posts. I also grew up in crime infested areas. My three sibling and myself were raised by a single mother, that had to work multiple shifts to make ends meet. We were taught how to behave with police (more so my older brothers). We were also taught that we had to be two to three times better than our white counterparts in whatever we were set out to do in life. This was not to make us feel sorry for ourselves, it was to prepare us for the reality we had to face in life.
I now live in better area and feel I’m pretty well off. However, I still worry about my son when he goes out. Living this way day in and day out, you get use to it, but it would be nice to not have to.
My son’s white college roommate has expressed how there is a difference in how he and his friends are treated compared to his black friends.
My cousin’s wife is white, she expressed how she worries about her husband when he leaves the house in ways that she don’t have to for her brother.
I know these are just some opinions but I believe it’s hard to see things through the eyes of another and that until you, your loved one, or someone close to you has experience it, can you truly understand.
I don’t think one side is all right or wrong. I don’t feel like white people should have to apologize for their ancestors...just understanding that it still affects some is helpful. I know that some black people make it bad for others (as it happens in other races), but I prefer not to be treated differently because of it. I’ve worked hard, taught my children to be upstanding citizens, so we avoid it a lot, however it still happens from time to time.

Review: revised Elder's manual, part 4 (final part)
by neat blue dog inhere's the cruel, uncomfortable and dehumanizing description of transport for disfellowshipped ones:.
in cases of real need, the elders can determine wheth-er some assistance may be provided.
such assistance would be viewed as similar to public transportation in that there should be no conversing with the disfellowshipped or disassociated person.
