I jumped out of a plane 15,000 feet!

some of you doubted me when i said i was going to do a skydive in las vegas....well i did it!.

i was scared s**tless.

they tell you all the dangers beforehand and its something like 1:50,000 die and 1:1750 have a serious injury.

Congratulations!!!!! It is definitely an experience that you'll never ever forget. It's such a complete rush!! I did 5 tandem jumps while I lived in Florida in the 90's. It doesn't feel like your falling but like your flying and it was so quiet up there. My first jump was from a small Cessna, 10,000 ft. and it was another skydivers birthday...so he jumped out with just his "birthday suit" and parachute. I think the hardest part was manuvering to land on the designated place. I did get one video of me up in the air. Nothing like seeing your cheeks flap around. Well worth it.

I think everyone should try it at least once to experience the rush. I was visiting one drop zone and met a woman who had lost the use of her legs but would jump tandem with an instructor. She had logged like 50+ jumps. Its amazing what a person can accomplish! Blue skies!!!

i just had a relitive die in a car accident.

he was not a dubber 100% but went to very few meetings and lived a hard life, drank hard and played hard.

in fact the drinking is what is thought to have caused the crash.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I recently went to my Grandmother's funeral at a KH. The elder who presented it had known her and our family for many, many years. He started the first 3 minutes with her "brief history" of life and then went right into the set outline given for funerals. She was never a very active witness but was affiliated with JW's since the early 1950's and baptized in 1970's. I couldn't believe my ears...and I just about fell out of my chair when I heard the words "Would you please turn with me to such and such scripture..." and from behind me, a sea of flipping Bible pages was heard. Unbelievable! I though I was a kid again at a Thursday night meeting. The brother tried to make it a bit more "personable" by adding in her name when making points in his talk and that these were the things that she believed in but it pretty much sounded like just another talk; nothing more about her. Then they had a song from the songbook "Life Without End- At Last!" for everyone to sing...Ugh. I declined to sing...It was very impersonable...pretty much 3 minutes for her and the rest for the WT.

my grandmother recently passed away (91 yrs old) and they are having her funeral at the kh.

i can't remember ever having to attend one when i was a kid.

The principle of being balanced applies also to the matter of eulogizing the dead. At funeral services, Jehovah's Witnesses strive to comfort the bereaved. (2-Corinthians 1:3-5) A formal program may include one or more speakers. But it would be inappropriate to convert the occasion into a long parade of eulogizers extolling the deceased.

Wow! So in other words its inappropriate to go on about the person who's funeral it is in the first place...but its appropriate to convert the occasion (take advantage) to preach to people. Talk about controlling. I had asked my mom what music they had picked (a favorite song) but no...its a song from the songbook. Figures. I have to keep my to a minimum.

My concern is not for myself since I was never baptized but for my sibling who is inactive and is being shunned by my mom. Granted this funeral is out-of town in another state but with 2 relatives being elders etc etc I just really hope that they do not treat her like an outcast. I guess I'll see what true, geniune, unconditional love and compassion they'll show.

I appreciate everyone's imput on this. It just reverifies my feelings toward this organization which, in turn, helps me get my sibling out. If only my mother would open her mind and take the blinders off. It brings tears to my eyes as I write this. But, I know I've helped at least one person know "the real truth" and that puts a smile back on my face.

I hope someone can "enlighten" me. My grandmother recently passed away (91 yrs old) and they are having her funeral at the KH. I can't remember ever having to attend one when I was a kid. What can I expect to hear? I don't think I'll be allowed to get up and say anything about her, pretty much dreading going back into a KH. Also, a question was posed to me in that she was baptised a witness many years ago and was a JW in name only; pretty much inactive and was never " strong in the truth" her entire life. So how is it that her funeral can be at the KH? I'm thinking that somehow some "positive spin" will be put on this in that she had been around for so many years even after many others had left when there were changes in the organization. Thanks folks! Your the best!

The things that went on...

the things that went on behind closed doors in kindumb halls appalls me.

i just can't even put into words the things that i have found out over the years... how horribly elders treated people, how everything was kept secret... .

it disgusts me.

I found out many years later that a friend from the kingdom hall had been molested for many years by her father. I had no idea. Her mother divorced him and he was D'F shipped. Her uncle ( her father's brother) confessed to a boy he was studying with that he could no longer study with him because he was attracted to him. It seems he'd been denying to himself that he was gay for years. Very sad. But to think this was all happening and no one knew; not even my devout JW mom. I can only wonder what else went on that wasn't ever revealed. Very very sad.

Appreciate the info AlanF. But, unfortunately, upon having a 5 hour "discussion" with my devoted JW mother (30+ yrs)... she has stated to me that she would not take anything including what was is allowed. Of course, she also believes that if it wasn't for JW's and only JW's that the medical profession would not have come up with bloodless surgeries at all...go figure. Its hard to swallow this decision of hers especially since she is dealing with various ailments (high blood pressure, fibermayalsia, depression...etc) and only 53 yrs. old. But...as she says...the end is drawing near...and she won't have these ailments anymore and can build a house for her resurrected father....
