Be careful not to quote anything TOO old, some things that are often posted on this site for which you would realistically not have access to a hard copy. If they ask to see where you read a certain thing you can't refer them to the internet. BUSTED!

Need to find those Km or Wt articles encouraging all to read the old publications!
by stuckinarut2 ini have been dropping comments to a few re some classic old beliefs and teachings etc... and when asked "where did you read that, or how come you are saying such and such?
" i have replied "well, you remember we have often been told to study and research our old 'theocratic history' and 'old gems' of material?....
now though i have been challenged to prove where this has been printed!.

My neighbor is a return visit. Should I say something?
by Zoos ini stayed home sick from work the other day and noticed a car group pull up to my neighbor's house.

i decided it was time to retrieve something from my truck to see if i could recognize the visiting sisters.

Lots of great ideas. Thank you everyone. The one statement that stood out was:
OneEyedJoe: I don't know how I could live with myself if I didn't say something and they ended up getting sucked in to the cult.
I think that about sums it up for me.
I have a pretty good relationship with the neighbors. I think I can broach the subject without coming across as Mrs. Kravitz. I' ll go armed with that brochure from jwfacts.
Thanks all!

I stayed home sick from work the other day and noticed a car group pull up to my neighbor's house. She's a stay-at-home mom. I decided it was time to retrieve something from my truck to see if I could recognize the visiting sisters. I didn't. I thought to walk over and say hi... I didn't. (I DID have a stomach virus - didn't want to pass it on.)
I have since thought to say something to her and her husband about my history with that group. I haven't yet. Not sure if it's my place to stick my nose in it. On one hand I'm sure she's bored to tears all day and loves the visits. Talk about a nicety all wrapped up in a turd.
Should I arm the woman with knowledge or just give a general warning? Eh... I guess that would depend on what her intentions are. Not sure how to handle.

Observations from a day at the zoo
by Simon inso we went to calgary zoo today and i'm torn between zoo's being great for conservation vs using animals to make money.
i think on the whole they are a good thing but it's sad to see some of the animals caged up - somehow i always end up staring into the eyes of a gorilla and it makes me sad.. but that isn't what struck me ... it's these things:.

Down here in the south our zoos provide the name of the animal AND a recipe. That's always helpful.

How do we set up a "Used New Bike Fund" for Terry?
by BucketShopBill inis there any way we can try to start a crowd-fund to help terry get some wheels quicker than he currently can?
with craigslist and a couple of bucks from a few members we can help terry get moving.
does anyone have any ideas how we can do a "theists for terry" bike fund raiser and challenge the atheists to a bucket-head challenge?

I just clicked forward from page one to page three and found the bickering. I CANNOT BELIEVE an effort as simple as helping a guy like Terry replace his bicycle has turned into yet another JWN hornets’ nest of negativity and childish tantrums.
Or, maybe I should have expected it the moment Terry told his story.
Simon, please instruct the children to be seated and allow this effort to move forward.

What is the best advise you have ever been given?
by new hope and happiness inawhile a go i was uptight about a matter i can't remember now and my friend said to me " give the other side the victory".
a while ago my little boy was getting uptight and argumentative with his mum i asked him " to let it go" in effect i suppose " giving the other side the victory".
anyway i am sure our life exsperiences have allowed us both receive and give good advice.

JW.ORG CAMPAIGN AN UTTER FAILURE!
by Dis-Member inthere are 7,782,346 active publishes in the world.. .
jw.org has received an estimated 7,639,900 visits over the last 30 days.
the number of visits differs from visitors (or unique visitors).

The world on the other had really does not seem to give a dam.
They just don't give a click.
And of the non-JW visitors who, out of curiosity, go there to see what it is, they notice that god-awful JEHOVAH'S WITNESS scrip at the top of the page and break half a dozen fingernails trying to click outta there.

shunning within the family.
by bigmac ini'm giving 3 examples of this practice--that i know of personally.. .
my first wife--born in--divorced me over 30 years ago.
she totally shuns our son--now 38--d/f'd and now happily married and enjoying life to the max.. my pioneer partner--from the mid 60's-----he totally shuns his daughter---to the point of even ignoring her in the street.. a close friend of mine--in the 60's and 70's-----i was best man at his wedding.

Silly Girl, give yourself a hug. That's from me.
It just doesn't make sense. I used to shun an uncle when I was a kid because that is what I was told to do. Honestly, I didn't give any thought to what it might be doing to him or the fact that I and the rest of the family were erasing any hope of ever having a relationship with him later.
Now I'm the one being shunned and I really think THEY THINK everything will be just dandy again after I get reinstated. Not only will that not happen because I will never go back, even if they were to leave the org. and pursue me...
