I'm giving up in 2017! (More steps in my fading)
by Skepsis inwhen i joined this site at the beginning of this year, i was serving as an uber-zealous regular pioneer and ms in a foreign congregation where the need is greater.
i was giving public talks and having parts at regional conventions.
had started to have doubts but i hadn't time to focus on them, i simply was overcharged with so many activities and things to do.. i started by quitting pioneering but couldn't think i would give further steps for a long time.

In many ways it's like leaving an abusive spouse. You know it's the right and healthy thing to do... but you are still human with feelings and probably a lot of good memories.
Until you can experience it for yourself, trust those of us who know, that leaving the TROOF is the best way of life. It's worth whatever you have to go through to get here.

Never mind. JWFACTS to the rescue again.
"Why is there this decline in religion?
One of the reasons is that people are disturbed by what is happening in their churches. Yes, millions of persons have been shocked to learn that things they were taught as being vital for salvation are now considered by their church to be wrong. Have you, too, felt discouragement, or even despair, because of what is happening in your church? A businessman in Medellín, Colombia, expressed the effect the changes have had on many.
“Tell me,” he asked,“how can I have confidence in anything? How can I believe in the Bible, in God, or have faith? Just ten years ago we Catholics had the absolute truth, we put all our faith in this. Now the pope and our priests are telling us this is not the way to believe any more, but we are to believe ‘new things.’ How do I know the ‘new things’ will be the truth in five years?” Awake1970 Apr 22 p.8"The reasons that people give for abandoning the churches are many and varied. Some in West Germany do it in order to be relieved of paying the church tax. More often, however, the reason involves changes in Roman Catholic teaching in recent years. These have confused many persons who thought that they had the true apostolic religion. As one Catholic priest in the United States put it: “If the things the Church has said in the last ten years are true, then everything it said for the last 2,000 years is false.”" Watchtower 1975 Jun 1 p.324

Just because something is old, does not mean it is "Special" or "Sacred" or "Valuable"
by stuckinarut2 ina thought occurred to me that simply because something is old does not make it valuable or worthy of sacred reverence.. the bible is held up as sacred just because it is "old" and apparently preserved.. but, that does not make sense.
if in thousands of years someone finds a notebook of my scribbles or sketches that i threw away, that doesn't elevate them to "valuable status" simply because they survived.
they were thrown away because they were worthless.. or if an archaeologist finds an ancient broken bit of pottery that was used for garbage disposal, it doesn't change its status from what it once was - a garbage bin.. i guess what i am trying to ask is, why is it that we as humans give value to writings just because they are old?.

One of the reasoning points offered by WT that the bible is the WORD OF GOD is that it has survived all these years through so many attempts to suppress or destroy it.
With that kind of reasoning, it makes the bible special, sacred... valuable.
All in how you twist it.

I'm surprised the book is even available. I got a digital copy years ago (which I am willing to send to anyone who asks - send me a PM) and read it twice. Definitely a game-changer.

The Ultimate Conversion
by Etude inone thing that surprised me shortly after joining this site was the number of individuals who, after experiencing the deception of being a jw and the hypocrisy of the “truth”, switched to being catholic or “born-again” evangelists.
it seemed to me like jumping from the hot pan into the fire.. i don’t want to piss anyone off for his or her choices.
i feel everyone is free to believe what they may.

When I left the TRUTH, I felt compelled to go in search of the real truth - if for no other reason than my respect for "Jehovah." I considered Catholicism but ended up at a non-denominational community church. That lasted a few weeks... and several $20 bills in the plate.
Eventually I arrived at the conclusion that religion - in all it's forms - was a bunch of bunk. BUT I STILL BELIEVED IN CHRISTIANITY.
Now, I believe ALL RELIGIOUS PHILOSOPHIES are man-made attempts at explaining the unexplainable.
I AM STILL NOT AN ATHEIST!
I can't look at the physical universe and conclude "random chance." I think there is an intelligence out there who made all this possible. I don't think for a moment he gives a shit about the human condition and I offer up no explanations. I am perfectly comfortable with "I DON'T KNOW!"
Go with God.
